It’s the first of the month, and first of the year, and that means a new look at the demographics of people who “like” comics on Facebook. This data is compiled using demographic data from Facebook, and is limited to the United States.

This data is compiled using key terms, “likes,” users have as part of their profiles. Primarily terms are focused on generic ones such as “comics” or “graphic novels” or publishers. I stay away from specific characters, creators or series, because this does not indicate they are a comic book fan. Over 100 terms are used for this report.

This data is important in that it shows who the potential comic audience could be. This is not purchasers, these are people who have shown an affinity for comics and are potential purchasers and those with an interest.

Facebook Population: Over 42,000,000 in the United States

The population has gone back up from last month rebounding back to 42 million. That’s a 3 million increase from last month. Currently, this is the most the population has gotten and regularly fluctuates between 39 million and 42 million.

The Spanish-speaking population last month was 17.18%, and this month the population has decreased back down to 15.17%. This is a combination of the increased population size and the general population decreasing to 6.6 million.

Gender and Age

Last month women accounted for 43.59% and men were 56.41%. This month both men and women increased in population with women increasing by 2 million and men just 1 million. Women now account for 45.24% and men are now 54.76%.We’ll next look at how the percentage of women and men break down through age.

The population increased and that has happened across the board of ages. The most gains were among those age 21 and under and those age 50 and up.

Relationship Status

Across the board each of the relationship statuses increased, except for those single. That stat remained constant from the previous month though the number of men and women increased for each.

Education

There’s been some shifts from the previous month but it’s still interesting to see where men and women are in equal numbers when it comes to education.

Gender Interest

Men interested men and women interested in women both remained constant from last month. Those interested in both men and women both increased as well as those interested in the opposite gender.

Ethnicity

The overall population increased and it also saw a bump in African Americans. Asian Americans and Hispanic’s decreased though. The one exception is Bilingual Hispanics which saw an increase even the overall population decreased.

Generation

And with an increase of population, each Generation increased as well.
