It’s Monday and that means I usually take a look at some geek population on Facebook. I felt it might be good, since it’s early in the year, to look at the general Facebook user demographics and compare that to our first comic break down of the year.

For this report, I looked at general users of Facebook in the United States. No terms were used at all.

Facebook Population: Over 180,000,000 users in the US

Spanish speakers account for now 16,400,000 fans, 9.11%. That’s over 4 percentage points lower than the comic book fandom.

Gender and Age

In comic fandom, men accounted for 53.64% and women 42.73%. In the Facebook general population, men account for 45.56% and women 53.33%.

We’ll next look at how the percentage of women and men break down through age.

Relationship Status

Unlike comic fans, the Facebook population is mostly married with 43.84% of it being so and just 25.11% of comic fans.

Education

The education when it comes to the percentage of college grads, Facebook and comic fans on Facebook is similar. The percent in college or high school is much lower for the general Facebook population.

Gender Interest

When it comes to same gender, Facebook and the general comic fan population on Facebook is similar. Men interested in men is a bit lower and women interested in women is a bit higher. And as women are a higher percentage of the general population on Facebook, they’re a larger percent in this too.
