All-Star Champions #1

Puerto Rico’s superhero Coquí #1 is available for Pre-Order Now. Get an Exclusive Look Including Variant Cover Reveals

Coquí #1 is a comic we’ve been anticipating since its announcement in November 2020. Published by Chido Comics, Coquí is a brand-new mini-series and it’s available for pre-order starting today.

After falling down a cliff in the mystical mountains of El Yunque, a young man is reborn, walking away with more than just his life. An extraordinary gift was bestowed upon him to protect his island in it’s darkest hour. The series is inspired by superhero films mixed with a throwback to classic superhero action-adventure stories.

Written by Ivan Plaza with art by Matteo Illuminati and lettering by Carlos M. Mangual, the comic has a main cover and two variants. Illuminati and Loris Ravina handle the main Cover A with Cover B by Roberto Rivera Padró and Cover C by Monika Maccagni and AC Osorio.

Coquí is an exciting, action-filled superhero story that comic fans will enjoy. When Puerto Rico needs a hero, Axel is asked to rise when it matters most.

We have an exclusive look at some of the comic as well as a debut of its variant covers that you can see below.

You can order the comic now directly from Chido Comics which features signed copies and the variant covers or from Amazon. Retailers interested in carrying Coquí can contact Chido Comics directly. The debut sounds like the start of something big.

Mine To Avenge: Book Of Layla #1 comes to Kickstarter

Mine To Avenge: Book Of Layla #1, a new Kickstarter which kicked off on the 14th of November, is a futuristic cyberpunk filled with action and a dash of the supernatural. As spoiler free as possible, the first issue is a solid starting point for readers with its fast-moving plot that pulls you in with tight dialogue and snappy banter. Mine To Avenge is a mystery that starts in pre-Civil War New Orleans, then time jumps to Russia in the 22nd century, where we find our main characters rescuing a damsel in distress followed by the return of a dark nemesis.

Written and created by Robert Jeffrey II, keep an eye out for him as a recent participant of the DC Comics Writers Workshop program, you can see the refinement of his writing skills in this creator-owned project. Supporting him is an Italian artist Matteo Illuminati, whose work is new to me, but another one to look out for as he does characters and action amazingly well. Also helping with the visuals of the book is colorist and letterer Loris Ravina, whose color pallet helps to enhance and set the mood of the story.

And for proof of development, here are the first six pages of the book.

Published by Evoluzione Publishing, for more information or character designs, check their Kickstarter or Facebook pages. The campaign runs until December 15.
