A Magical Book Opens the Door to a Universe of Adventure in Sunder

Mad Cave Studios invites readers to experience the world of Sunder, one issue at a time!

Originally published as a graphic novel, Sunder Vol. 1: Small Beginnings arrives in comic shops this fall as an individual issue series from creator Pierre-Alexandre Comtois, featuring colors by Mark Englert and letters by Buddy Beaudoin. Blending fantasy, science fiction, and coming-of-age adventure, the series unfolds in a universe where magic and monsters exist alongside the farthest reaches of the galaxy.

This is the story of Zeek, a goat-looking orphan living in a monastery within the far reaches of the galaxy. For reasons he was never told, he is restricted from ever going outside the perimeters of the Monastery. Taking care of the library, he reads and transcribes books filled with heroes and adventures, yet never gets to have any of his own. That is, until one day when a magical book appears in the library and attaches itself to him… Magic. Sci-fi. Adventure. Monsters. Welcome to the world of Sunder.

Sunder #1 arrives with additional variant covers by Daniele Serra and Christian Ward, alongside a foil variant and blank sketch cover.

Whether discovering it for the first time or revisiting it in individual issue format, Sunder offers readers a richly imagined fantasy-sci-fi adventure filled with magic, monsters, and wonder.

Sunder #1 goes on sale September 30, 2026, with Final Order Cut-off September 7, and is now available for preorder.

Exclusive Reveal: Limited Slipcase Edition of Prince of Persia Creator’s new graphic novel: LIBERTY

Oni Press and Magnetic Press have announced the Kickstarter campaign for Liberty, a sweeping historical graphic novel written by renowned writer and video game designer Jordan Mechner, the creator of the groundbreaking Prince of Persia franchise, with art by Étienne Le Roux and Loïc Chevallier. This lushly illustrated and meticulously researched epic dramatizes the true story of the secret arms smugglers who helped win the American Revolution. Sign up so you don’t miss out when Liberty launches on Kickstarter

Set in 1776, Liberty follows the daring exploits of Silas Deane, a Connecticut merchant, and Pierre-Augustin Caron de Beaumarchais, a flamboyant French playwright. While Beaumarchais is most famous for writing The Barber of Seville, his most important work was done in secret.  While an outnumbered American rebel army struggles to defend New York against British forces, Beaumarchais orchestrates a clandestine mission from Europe to funnel weapons and support to the colonists. His efforts — fraught with political intrigue, betrayal, and high-stakes diplomacy — reveal a hidden chapter of history where art, ambition, and revolution collide.

While Jordan Mechner is best known as the creator of the pioneering Prince of Persia video games as well as beloved games like Karateka and The Last Express, he has spent recent years writing breathtaking graphic novels including Monte Cristo, a thrilling modernization of Alexandre Dumas’s classic novel drawn by Mario Alberti and the graphic memoir Replay which was awarded the 2023 Chateau de Cheverny graphic novel prize. With Liberty, the renowned creator is joining forces with one of France’s most dynamic art duos Étienne Le Roux and Loïc Chevallier, whose intricately detailed and profoundly expressive artwork has earned them legions of fans around the world.

In addition to the deluxe hardcover edition of Liberty, Magnetic Press is also producing a Limited Collectors 250th Anniversary edition, which will feature a foil-stamped slipcase with Fleur‑de‑Lis & Liberty Iconography, a ribbon bookmark, foil-gilded pages, and a bookplate signed and numbered by Jordan Mechner.

We have an exclusive reveal of that slipcase along with a preview of the graphic novel! Check it out below and don’t miss out when it launches on Kickstarter!
