Flare Adventures #31 Is Here!

Official Press Release

AT LAST! THE THRILLING CONCLUSION TO FLARE’S ADVENTURE IN LOS ANGELES!

Only eighteen years late, and twenty-four years after it started, it’s the thrilling conclusion to the extended storyline that began in the very first issue of FLARE!

Classic Flare artist, MARK PROPST, has returned for Flare’s “Farewell to the City of Angels,” the all-new adventure that brings together Flare, Lady Arcane, the savage Tigress, and the sinister Thugmaster in a wrap-up of all the various overarching plot threads that two decades ago ran through the first series of comic books featuring the adventures of comics’ shining goddess of the light.

There are still a few untold stories that date from that period in our heroine’s life, most notably an unexpected visit from that unrepentant little sneak thief, ICICLE, that we’ll eventually get around to telling you about. And there is a gap between this adventure and the sequence of stories that began in Flare v3 #1. But for the time being, this brings us full circle. The Flare Adventures title goes on the shelf for a while. And the regular Flare comic book returns in two months with new adventures that take place today!

Meet Sensational G-Girl Artist Gaetano Petrigno

Official Press Release

MEET SENSATIONAL
G-GIRL ARTIST
GAETANO PETRIGNO

Come this March, when Heroic Publishing’s newest superheroine, the sensational G-Girl, makes her long-awaited debut in the pages of the 55th issue of Heroic’s flagship Champions title, she’ll be drawn in the clean, crisp style of the talented Italian artist, Gaetano Petrigno. Since this is a name that may be unfamiliar to American fans, we asked Gaetano to tell us a bit about himself. Take it away, Gaetano.

I studied at the Italin School of Comics, and am at the moment working on the comic book “Sensational G-Girl.” I am also collaborating as an inker on the Red Whale publication, “Pop Pixie”.

My work has been published in the Italian comic book, “Sangue e Pizzo Nero,” with a story written by Francesca Paolucci. Moreover, I worked with Enrico Teodorani on the publication, “Adios Djustine.”

The majority of my work has been as an inker for several Italian authors such as Aurelio Mazzara (Bluejaye) and Quirino Calderone (Maschere).

Now I am hoping to make it in the American market, and to continue my carrer as a comic book artist.

Plans are for Gaetano’s work on the G-Girl to appear regularly in the pages of Champions, giving fans bonus adventures of America’s newest costumed heroine in addition to the G-Girl stories that will appear in her own magazine. Gaetano’s G-Girl adventures are currently slated to appear in Champions #55, 58, 60, and 62, with a principal focus less on knock-down, drag-out fights with super-villains, more on the personal stories. The G-Girl stories you’ll see in Champions will be all about the trials and tribulations of a teenaged girl with super-powers trying to adjust to the profound changes in her life that this peculiar new circumstance of being a superheroine has caused.

You can check out an online preview of Champions #55 at www.heroicpub.com/heroicpub/previews/ch55.php

Unpublished Dick Giordano Artwork Set for League of Champions #14

DICK GIORDANO’S PENULTIMATE TIGRESS ADVENTURE!

Did you know that before his untimely passing, comic book great Dick Giordano was on tap to be the regular artist for Heroic Publishing’s Tigress character? In addition to the stories that appeared in Tales of the Champions #4, Flare #35, and Champions #40, there exist two more Giordano-drawn Tigress tales. The first of these, an eight-page team-up between the Tigress and Heroic’s mystic hero, Doctor Arcane, has been scheduled for League of Champions #14, with a tentative release date of June, 2012.

The remaining Giordano Tigress tale has not yet been scheduled, but will most likely appear either in an upcoming issue of Heroic’s flagship Champions title, or in an issue of a revived Tigress solo magazine.

A preview of the Tigress/Doctor Arcane adventure can be seen on the Heroic Publishing website at www.heroicpub.com/heroicpub/previews/lc14.php

Here Comes the Sensational G-Girl!

Official Press Release

SENSATIONAL G-GIRL DEBUTS IN CHAMPIONS #55!

America’s newest costumed heroine makes her long-awaited debut in March in the pages of a special preview issue of Heroic Publishing’s flagship CHAMPIONS title.

CHAMPIONS #55 features a special preview adventure of THE SENSATIONAL G-GIRL, a few months in advance of the late spring/early summer release of her own quarterly magazine-sized comic book title. In Champions #55, in all all-new tale by Terrance Griep Jr and Italy’s Gaetano Petrigno, the sensational G-Girl volunteers for a charity wrestling match and finds herself “In the Grip of the Sinister Spider-Baby.”

This story is of particular interest because it pits the fictional G-Girl against a very real opponent. Tommy “the Spider-Baby” Saturday is in fact the professional wrestling nom du guerre of writer Terrance Griep! On the Minneapolis wrestling circuit, the Spider-Baby is a heel (a bad guy in pro wrestling terms), a tag-team champion, and openly gay, just like Griep. After starting as an “out” commentator for the local indie federation, the Spider-Baby become a force in the local pro wrestling community. But the Spider-Baby’s success isn’t about sexuality or his efforts to bring wrestling out of the Neolithic age, it’s about Griep’s talents in and out of the ring. He’s a heel in the best way, getting heat and hate from the crowd for his nefarious actions, not because he likes to kiss guys. Sure, this sense of openness and fun hasn’t spread to the big boys at the WWE, but tons of pro wrestling innovations have come out of Minnesota in the past, and the Spiderbaby is another one that could catch on nationwide.

In the story in Champions #55, when the League of Champions is approached about the idea of doing a charity wrestling match, their newest member, Billi Jayne Jensen, the Sensational G-Girl, volunteers for the job. Even though she has no wrestling experience, she’s pretty sure she can take on the Spider-Baby and win, because she’s not only really, really strong and tough, she also thinks she has a secret weapon.

Trouble is, nobody’s bothered to tell the G-Girl that the Spider-Baby is as gay as a goose.

THE SENSATIONAL G-GIRL makes her debut in March 2012 in the pages of Champions #55, with the first issue of her own comics magazine to follow later in the spring or early summer of 2012.

Flare Webcomic Now Online

Official Press Release

GORDON PURCELL RETURNS TO FLARE!

Beginning with FLARE #40, currently scheduled for a March 2012 release, GORDON PURCELL returns to lend his artistic talents to comics’ shining goddess of light, FLARE!

In this issue, the focus is on Flare’s police officer boyfriend, LUCAS MADISON. When Flare’s arch-enemy Nyx, sultry goddess of the night, decides she wants Lucas for herself, and recruits help from APHRODITE in order to get him, how in the world is a mere mortal ever going to be able to resist the mind-altering potions of the Olympian goddess of love?

This adventure serves as a prologue of sorts to an extended Flare storyline that will be drawn by Gordon, in which the goddesses of Olympus decide to hold a competition to determine which of them will be raised up as queen of the Olympian gods. Naturally, as an incarnation of the dawn goddess Eos, Flare will be a part of that. Current plans call for this extended “Challenge of the Gods” storyline to begin appearing in the summer of 2012, first as a part of the Flare online webcomic, updating every Monday, Wednesday, and Friday at www.heroicpub.com/flareonline. Only after the webcomic sequences are complete will the storyline be collected into print editions of the Flare comic book, most likely beginning in the summer of 2013.

The FLARE comic book does resume publication in 2012, tentatively on a bimonthly schedule, with new issues appearing in March, May, July, and thereafter.

For more information, please visit the FLARE website at www.heroicpub.com/flare.
