Ruptura Comics has acquired the remaining stock of Opus Comics. The publisher has inherited more than just the inventory, they’ve also inherited the frustrations and unresolved issues of many loyal readers.
Opus Comics launched in 2022 from Incendium, a “creative service business for the music industry.” The publisher inked a deal with the Frank Frazetta estate as well as bands like Disturbed, and released comics based on other properties like Bill and Ted. The publisher quickly fizzled with the last news in June 2023. The publisher left many hanging with outstanding orders and purchases.
Ruptura is attempting to make up for that with the “We’ve Got You” campaign. It’s a commitment to support and assist anyone affected by Opus Comics. Right now, they’re focusing on readers with pending orders for Cradle of Filth: Maledictus Athenaeum. They’re encouraging anyone with anything outstanding to contact Ruptura at customerservice@rupturacomics.com so they can resolve their cases and provide the service they deserve.
The campaign isn’t just about fulfilling orders—it’s an attempt to restore faith in an industry that the publisher feels should celebrate creativity, not leave readers in doubt. Ruptura in the announcement stated that they are “striving to create a real community rooted in transparency, integrity, and support.”
Ruptura recently teamed with Magma Comix to release Hell’s Half Acre and Rome Eternal. Ruptura was founded in the 1990s. amid the burgeoning scene of the so-called “new Mexican comic.” Over time, it has stepped in and out of the spotlight, changing its form and finding different ways to collaborate with other publishing houses.
In the acquisition from Opus Comics, they purchased a significant portion of the publisher’s physical stock through a closeout sale. This included comics, merchandise, and the license for Cradle of Filth: Maledictus Athenaeum. While they won’t be able to address and resolve all issues from Opus, they’re also working to engage the former licensors and explore solutions for the community.
Ruptura is going beyond fulfilling the outstanding Cradle of Filth: Maledictus, they have also announced a new project, Funeral in Carpathia which is on pre-sale now.
In the future, Ruptura is looking to revive other titles from Opus/Incendium, offer limited-edition merchandise, as well as more original stories.

Opus Comics was founded in 2021 by writer and creative director Llexi Leon, launching with over a dozen comic book titles based on some of the world’s best-known music-related IP including Bill and Ted: Roll the Dice, Frank Frazetta’s Death Dealer and Evanescence: Echoes from the Void. Frank Frazetta’s Tales of Science-Fantasy #1 is the debut of a new quarterly anthology series, each issue focusing on another masterpiece by the godfather of fantasy art, Frank Frazetta. In this story, inspired by the painting “Alien Crucifixtion,” writer Denton J. Tipton and artist Miguel Ángel Ruiz chronicle the final days of a brutal planetary dictator pursued by enemies and allies alike.
Generally, I’m not too familiar with Frazetta’s works. I know some of the more famous art (Death Dealer) but the stories and worlds around them are pretty foreign to me. So, to see comics spun out of his paintings has been interesting and what I’ve read, it’s been a bit mixed for me. Not knowing the “original material” hasn’t helped at all. So, I went into Frank Frazetta’s Tales of Science-Fantasy #1 with a wide open mind, intrigued about a comic based on a painting. And, but the time I finished reading, I wanted to learn more.
Tipton delivers a one-shot comic that’s entertaining and feels a bit of a parable as well. Duce is a dictator whose people are fed up and no idea who he can trust. We’re given the motivations of the various individuals in pursuit and who he must deal with to survive. And in the end, we’re left with a lesson to ponder and think about. It’s a whirlwind story that is perfect for expansion. What exactly has Duce done? What was the breaking point of the people? There’s potential here to explore our society through this fantasy world, as good sci-fi does. As is, Frank Frazetta’s Tales of Science-Fantasy #1 is an entertaining read that feels like the Cliff’s Notes of events. It’s not a bad thing but there’s a lot packed into this one issue. And even with so much thrown at readers, it entertains with its twists and turns.
The art by Miguel Ángel Ruiz is interesting to me. With color by Josh Burcham and lettering by Jacob Bascle, there’s a familiarity with the world and characters, as if they’re riffed on other works. I’m not familiar with how much Frazetta fleshed out but you can see things like John Carter of Mars within. Like the story itself, there’s a lot of small details that leave you wondering and wanting to learn more about the world. The team does an excellent job of delivering the emotion of the characters it focuses on. Whether it’s Duce’s anger, the frustrations of soldiers, or the cloud of evil hovering over others, the comic does a solid job of conveying where everyone stands and a bit why just in their body language.
Frank Frazetta’s Tales of Science-Fantasy #1 is an intriguing start to the series. It has that anthology feel with a nice lesson in the end for readers to ponder and chew on. What’s better, the debut leaves us wanting more from this brutal world. Despite its fascist leader, it’s a start that leaves a lot to explore and lessons to be learned in a reflection on our reality.

But he’s not the only one looking. Jason Howden will direct an adaptation of upcoming comic series Monsters of Metal. Written by director and visual effects artist Howden together with Opus Comics’ founder Llexi Leon, Monsters of Metal sees a group of beloved horror icons team up to form a heavy metal band in this riotous R-rated mockumentary set to be a cross between Spinal Tap and The Monster Squad.
Frankenstein’s monster (named Frank) and his bandmates Medusa, Jack O’Lantern, Werewolf and the Bride have spent the last few centuries squatting in Dracula’s castle – unbeknown to their slumbering host. But after a band rehearsal gets out of hand and wakes the fearsome vamp, the group get booted from the castle and are forced to hit the road.
As Frank and the band take their act on tour they find themselves fighting off crazed groupies, monster hunters and fellow crypt creatures in a darkly comic tale that puts the death in “death metal”.

Monsters of Metal #1 is written by Howden and Leon with art by Luis Guaranga and covers from Ryan Christensen. It’s on sale from October 19th.

The launch title for Opus Comics enjoyed strong initial orders and a variety of retailer exclusive covers, but it still wasn’t enough to meet the demand for this new series and the publisher is keen to ensure everyone can get a copy.
Death Dealer #1 also was the launch pad for a wider Frazetta-verse which will unfold in upcoming Opus Comics’ issues, and across Incendium’s wider product lines including its FIGBIZ action figures.
Written by Mitch Iverson and rendered by artist Stefano Martino, with colorist Luis Antonio Delgado and letterer Jacob Bascle, the first issue embarks on an epic adventure through the worlds of Frazetta, introducing readers to extraordinary characters and places envisioned by the “Godfather of fantasy art.”
