The 2026 National Book Festival features Frank Miller, Max Brooks, Shannon Hale, Dan Santat, and more!

Library of Congress National Book Festival

Each year, the Library of Congress holds the National Book Festival, bringing together authors and creators from across genres. This year’s event takes place Saturday, August 22 at the Walter E. Washington Convention Center in Washington, D.C. Part of the Library’s celebration of America 250: It’s Your Story, this year’s festival is an invitation to further appreciate the country’s history.

Over 80 authors from various literary genres are taking part and that includes many connected to the comic industry. They’ll join headliners such as Cynthia Erivo, Martin Scorsese, and Kate McKinnon.

One of those headliners is comic legend Frank Miller who will be there to discuss his new memoir Push the Wall.

Max Brooks will also be in attendance discussing his graphic novel The Harlem Hellfighters and the value of firsthand recollections of U.S. military veterans.

For those unable to join the festival in person, events on the Main Stage will be livestreamed on loc.gov/bookfest. Videos of presentations will be made available at loc.gov and on the Library’s YouTube channel shortly after the festival.

Get a First Look at DC Zoom and DC Ink’s Titles Debuting Fall 2019

DC announced today new details surrounding its young reader imprints—DC Zoom and DC Ink—and revealed first looks at titles scheduled for release in fall 2019. DC Zoom is focused on readers ages 8-12 while DC Ink is focused on readers 13+.

DC has confirmed on-sale dates for the highly anticipated releases as well as early looks at the graphic novels. All are available for pre-order now.

DC Reveals Artists, On Sale Dates and More for their DC Zoom and DC Ink Imprints

DC Entertainment has announced the inaugural artist lineup for the publisher’s upcoming young reader imprints, DC Zoom and DC Ink. The artists will join the previously announced roster of bestselling young adult and middle grade authors to create diverse, relatable stories starring DC’s most iconic characters such as Batman, Superman, Wonder Woman and many more. Both original graphic novel lines are set to launch in spring 2019.

The two new imprints were announced in February 2018 and they are aimed at younger readers.

DC Zoom targets middle grade readers ages 8-12 and will tell stories focused on friends, family and growing up. The line will debut in April 2019 with Super Sons: The Polarshield Project, written by award-winning middle grade author Ridley Pearson and illustrated by Ile Gonzalez.

The complete list of creative teams for the first wave of DC Zoom titles include:

  • Super Sons: The Polarshield Project (April 2019)-  written by Ridley Pearson and illustrated by Ile Gonzalez
  • DC Super Hero Girls: Spaced Out (May 2019) – written by Shea Fontana, and illustrated by Agnes Garbowska

DC Ink will publish thought provoking stories for young adults, readers ages 13+, that focus on everyday aspirations, struggles and triumphs. The line will also launch in April 2019 with the highly anticipated Mera coming-of-age tale, Mera: Tidebreaker from New York Times bestselling YA author Danielle Paige and artist Stephen Byrne. Complete creative teams for the first round of DC Ink graphic novels include:

DC Zoom and DC Ink authors Kami Garcia, Ridley Pearson, Shea Fontana, Meg Cabot, Danielle Paige, Lauren Myracle and Mariko Tamaki will share more details about their upcoming books on various panels at this year’s American Library Association (ALA) Annual Conference & Exhibition in New Orleans from June 21-26.

You’re never too young to be a hero…or to read about them! DC Entertainment recently announced two new graphic novel lines, DC Ink, which is geared towards Young Adult readers, and DC Zoom, which targets Middle Graders.

Recently, fans and professionals at ALA learned a lot more about these exciting books—which feature DC’s most popular heroes and are written by prominent YA and middle grade authors—when DC hosted a panel to help launch the two lines.

The video has lots of details about these two graphic novel lines with lots of new art and features bestselling authors like Ridley Pearson, Meg Cabot, Melissa De La Cruz, Danielle Paige, Michael Northrop, Minh Le, and more, all sharing new information about their upcoming DC projects.

Coming out of the American Library Association‘s winter meeting were details on what we can expect from DC Ink and DC Zoom, the two new imprints from DC Entertainment.

Derek Fridolfs and Dustin Nguyen‘s Gotham: Once Upon a Crime is a new round for the Lil Gotham all-ages comics the two have worked on before. Previous entries have been fantastic reads and if you’ve missed them, there’s time to catch up.

Shea Fontana‘s Batman: Overdrive is an origin story for the Batmobile.

Meg Cabot‘s Black Canary Ignite focuses on a teenage Dinah Lance as she discovers her powers and then her place in the Gotham City. The big reveal is that Cara McGee will be providing art.

Last night we brought the news that DC Entertainment would be launching two new graphic novel imprints, DC Ink and DC Zoom.

The new graphic novels line will be focused on young adult readers, DC Ink, and middle grade readers, DC Zoom.

We’ll see the first titles released in Fall 2018 and now have an even fuller list of what we’ll be seeing.

Nate Powell, the multi-award-winning graphic novelist behind Swallow Me Whole andAny Empire, appeared last week at the United Nations with an all-star team of teen-fiction writers to raise funds for young refugees from Darfur. Powell joins R. L. Stine (Goosebumps, Fear Street), Ann M. Martin (The Baby-Sitters Club), and over a dozen other top authors in the new anthology What You Wish For, published by Putnam.

Last Monday, nine of the book’s contributors shared the stage with children’s-book expert Leonard S. Marcus for a special presentation at the United Nations building in New York.

Following speeches from UN officials and Darfur experts, the authors shared insights into their creative contributions, their motives for contributing, and their hopes for the book’s success. Joining moderator Marcus were Nate Powell, Ann M. Martin, R. L. Stine, Jeanne Duprau (The Books of Ember), Karen Hesse (Out of the Dust), Marilyn Nelson (award-winning poet), Sofia Quintero (Efrain’s Secret), and via satellite, Meg Cabot (The Princess Diaries) and Cornelia Funke (Inkheart). Both halves of the session are viewable on the UN’s web site.

After the UN presentation, the authors held a signing at legendary children’s bookstore Books of Wonder, taking questions from a packed house and selling out every copy of What You Wish For in the store. Books of Wonder has a recap of the event (with photos) here.

What You Wish For is a project of The Book Wish Foundation, an all-volunteer 501(c)(3) public charity. 100% of proceeds from the book’s sales are donated to the UN refugee agency, UNHCR, to build libraries for refugee camps in Chad, populated by hundreds of thousands fleeing horrific violence in neighboring Darfur.
