Graphic Policy’s Top Comic Picks this Week!

Each week our contributors choose what they can’t wait to read this week or just sounds interesting. In other words, this is what we’re looking forward to and think you should be taking a look at!

Absolute Martian Manhunter #5 (DC Comics) – The series has been an amazing mix of superhero weirdness and crime noir. Add in some amazing visuals and this is a “pop” treat.

Absolute Wonder Woman #10 (DC Comics) – The series has been growing on us and Wonder Woman battling it out in a maze and all of its reveals has us excited to see where this series goes.

The Boxer Vol. 11 (VIZ Media) – Each volume has been amazing with its focus not on the boxing but instead on the characters and what drives them and haunts them to do what they do. More character study than sports.

Captain Planet #2 (Dynamite Entertainment) – The first issue introduced us to the Planeteers and the challenge ahead for them and we’re excited to see how they all come together and what the dynamic is like.

Exquisite Corpses #3 (Image Comics) – The series has been fantastic as the families that run the country have chosen warriors to battle it out to the death in a small town. It’s a mix of concepts and genres with a dash of video game style and it’s been awesome so far.

Feral #15 (Image Comics) – The series is amazing horror with a cute look. The latest arc has our cats in a pet store dealing with the rather odd cats that live there. There’s teases of Rick taking over Alexandria in Walking Dead here.

Godzilla #1 (IDW Publishing) – A new Godzilla universe kicks off here! You can read our early review.

The Sixth Gun: Battle For The Six #1 (Oni Press) – It’s been quite a while since we got a dose of this weird west and we’re here for its return!

Space Ghost Annual #1 (Dynamite Entertainment) – We loved the Space Ghost series and excited about the next volume, so you better believe this is on our list of must reads this week. Great sci-fi/superhero action with fantastic art.

TexArcanum #1 (Dark Horse) – America is a melting pot for the supernatural. Ghosts and gods, angels and demons, horror stories and tall-tales, they’ve traveled from across the globe to collide in the rural Heartland.

ThunderCats/The Powerpuff Girls #1 (Dynamite Entertainment) – We’re as intrigued as you are.

Vanishing Point #3 (Mad Cave Studios) – Mark Russell is a fantastic writer and showing it off in this sci-fi anthology series with a different focus and artist each issue. Think Tales From the Crypt but sci-fi.

The Voice Said Kill #1 (Image Comics) – And one deadly sonuvabitch, out of his mind on shrooms and retribution, loads his rifle for the Human Hunt and screams down the stars. Um… yeah.

10,000 Ink Stains: A Memoir (Dark Horse Comics) – Featuring his brilliant work from Sweet Tooth, Essex County, Black Hammer, Descender, and so much more. Lemire takes the reader book-by-book, writing essays about the making of each project, showcasing artwork from all of them, details about his personal life during the creation of each book, sharing some never-before-seen process material on each book, and unpublished stories as well.

Absolute Batman #10 (DC Comics) – We want to know more about Ark M and this version of Bane!

Barefoot Gen Omnibus Volume 1 (Last Gasp) – Keiji Nakazawa’s manga about his first-person experiences of Hiroshima and its aftermath gets an omnibus edition and collected the first two volumes.

Benjamin #2 (Oni Press) – The first issue was a trippy ride and we’re excited to see where the ride goes with the second issue.

Big Rig #1 (Vault Comics) – Post Malone’s series that kind of sounds like Army of Darkness but with a truck.

G.I. Joe #9 (Skybound) – The series has been great so far showing off a young Joe team and we’re excited to see it get more integrated with the other Energon Universe comics.

Godzilla Destroys The Marvel Universe #1 (Marvel) – It just sounds fun and at times that’s what you need.

Imperial #2 (Marvel) – A mini event that’ll reshape Marvel’s cosmic corner. The first issue delivered a jolt and the second issue is packed with action and shockers.

The Mighty Onion Volume 2 Mighty Onion And Guinea Pig Girl (Little, Brown Books for Young Readers) – The first volume was amazing and we’re excited for this second volume of this illustrated novel and seeing how they juggle fame.

Robin And Batman: Jason Todd #2 (DC Comics) – The first issue was amazing and we expect the same from the second. No less from Jeff Lemire and Dustin Nguyen.

Star Trek: Red Shirts #1 (IDW Publishing) – The classic Star Trek characters that spell doom for themselves are sent on a mission where it’s a question as to how many will make it out alive. Check out our early review!

Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles (2024) #10 (IDW Publishing) – The series has been fantastic following the Turtles who are more broken than ever and at their lowest, showing off their amazing bond as they battle against a corrupt New York City DA.

This Ends Tonight #1 (Image Comics) – The series features three interconnected tales of bloody revenge in Las Vegas with the first about two sisters hunted by assassins.

Archie Meets Jay And Silent Bob #1 (Archie Comics) – Sit back, light a blunt, and just enjoy Archie’s latest goofy crossover.

Beneath The Trees Where Nobody Sees: Rite Of Spring #1 (IDW Publishing) – The first series about a serial killer was amazing and this debut of the second volume is just as solid with a very different focus. Check out our early review.

Destroy All Humans They Can’t Be Regenerated A Magic The Gathering Manga Vol. 4 (VIZ Media) – The manga has been interesting set in the world of Magic: The Gathering, but not the actual world and mythos, instead it’s all about the players.

Fantastic Four #1 (Marvel) – A new volume with a new movie coming soon. We want to see where this goes since it’ll potentially have a lot of new eyes on it.

Planet Death #1 (Bad Idea)With the zero issue, we said it felt like a Warhammer 40K comic and we’re excited to check out the sci-fi action and see where it all goes after the initial teaser.

Spider-Man: Kizuna Vol. 1 (VIZ Media) – Welcome to Ohakama City, Japan. Yu, a timid boy who loves to draw manga, is attacked by Green Goblin, only to be rescued by the super hero known as Spider-Man! Despite being defeated, the villain activates a device that merges Yu and Spider-Man together. A new manga featuring Spider-Man? Yeah, we’re in for checking this out.

Superman Treasury 2025: Hero For All #1 (DC Comics) – It feels like this’ll be just a fun Superman comic timed for the new film.

Toxic Avenger Comics #1 (AHOY Comics) – With a new film and some well received recent comics, the Toxic Avenger is back and this time with a new ongoing series!

Transformers #22 (Skybound) – Megatron is back and the Autobots are trying to figure out how to organize their response. We just want to see Optimus vs. Megatron.

Transformers: Worst Bot Ever – Meet Ballpoint (Skybound) – A Transformers graphic novel for young readers? Yeah, we’re interested.

Ultraman: Along Came A Spider-Man Vol. 1 (VIZ Media) – Ultraman and Spider-Man team up in a new manga. We’ve been excited for the proliferation of Marvel in manga form and this is one we’re pumped for.

The Unchosen #1 (Image Comics) – A 13-year-old wakes up in a city laid to waste by a massive explosion she caused. She’s being pursued be rival forces, so who can she trust?

Absolute Green Lantern #4 (DC Comics) – The series has been an excellent mix of horror and sci-fi and we want to know what the hell happened with Abin Sur and the town trapped in the bubble of energy.

Captain America #1 (Marvel) – It’s a new era for Captain America as Chip Zdarsky takes the helm as writer and takes us back to the early days of Captain America with an untold tale that impacts today.

Comics Of The Movement #1 (Good Trouble Comics) – A collection of two classic comics used in political movements. There’s also some extra material diving further into the history. Check out our review, this is a must for those that love history.

Dr. Werthless The Man Who Studied Murder And Nearly Killed The Comics Industry (Dark Horse) – Harold Schechter and Eric Powell delivered one of the best graphic novels in the past few years with Did You Hear What Eddie Gein Done? and we’re expecting similar excellence with this graphic novel about Dr. Fredric Wertham, the zealot who stirred up panic regarding comics and more.

Gehenna: Naked Aggression #1 (Image Comics) – It’s a simple tale of revenge as a woman goes after the mob who killed her husband.

G.I. JOE: A Real American Hero #318 (Skybound) – The series has been fantastic and does a great job of balancing the goofy with the serious. If you’re a fan of the property, it’s a great time to dive back in.

Killer Affairs Of The State II #2 (BOOM! Studios) – We love The Killer series and the latest volume shakes things up with the Killer debating if he should help out individuals being trafficked near his hideaway, a break from his usual being paid to kill. Solid action with some moral debates.

Ultimate Wolverine #7 (Marvel) – The series has been fantastic so far and with Logan now captured by the Resistance and his programming being undone, it’ll be interesting to see the direction of the series.

Unico Volume 2 Hunted (Graphix) – The first volume of this series was fantastic as the classic property got a new life. We’re beyond excited to read more and see if the second volume is just as magical.

Biker Mice From Mars #1 (Oni Press) – The classic animated series is getting an ongoing comic!

Clementine Volume 3 (Skybound) – The final chapter in the video game spin-off set in the world of The Walking Dead! We’ve enjoyed the first two volumes and excited to see how this ends!

Don’t Forget Your Briefcase #1 (Mad Cave Studios) – You know the nuclear football that’s with the President? That goes missing.

Feral #14 (Image Comics) – Do you like horror? You should be reading this series which delivers a new spin on the zombie genre and featuring adorable visuals. Yeah, you read that right.

Fist Of The North Star Vol. 17 (VIZ Media) – The classic manga has been getting some fantastic new hardcover releases and if you’ve never read the manga, this is a great chance to.

Lazarus Fallen #1 (Image Comics) – Lazarus returns after quite a break. But, the story of the rich ruling the world and battling it out might be on the nose for today.

New History Of The DC Universe #1 (DC Comics) – The definitive take on DC’s history? We’ll see!

Out of Alcatraz #4 (Oni Press) – If you like jailbreak stories, you’ll dig this one. It has a great classic vibe about it.

Ultimate Spider-Man #16 (Marvel) – The series has been fantastic and the latest revelations have been game changers. One of the best series Marvel is putting out right now.

Void Rivals #20 (Image Comics) – The series has been expanding the Transformers mythos a lot and we’re intrigued to see where this clash of two people go and how the Transformers get tied into it.

VR Troopers #1 (BOOM! Studios) – Spinning out of Power Rangers Prime, the new Power Rangers universe expands with the other favorite team.

We’re Taking Everyone Down With Us #4 (Image Comics) – The series has been awesome. It’s about a girl whose villain father is killed and she seeks revenge. It’s full of goofy characters and each issue has been packed with action and humor.

Exquisite Corpses #2 (Image Comics) – 12 families compete to control the world by unleashing killers to battle it out in a small town. The first issue was awesome with its video game infused style.

G.I. Joe #8 (Skybound) – The series has been awesome with great action and a G.I. Joe team that’s not quite clicking.

Jeff The Landshark #1 (Marvel) – We love us some Jeff the Landshark. Every release has been adorable and so cute.

Krypto: The Last Dog Of Krypton #1 (DC Comics) – Krypto is going to be the star this summer and we’re here for this series focused on Superman’s best friend.

Not-Sew-Wicked Stepmom Vol. 6 (IZE Press/Yen Press) – This series has been a fantastic riff on Snow White and it’s been great to see this family come together.

Star Trek Omega #1 (IDW Publishing) – “Lore War” comes to a conclusion but what comes next for the Star Trek universe? Find out here!

The Ultimates #13 (Marvel) – Ultimates 3.0 launches here and we want to see what this next version brings.

Blood and Thunder #2 (Skybound/Image Comics) – The first issue was a fun futuristic riff on the cop genre packed with tropes and we want to see if the second issue keeps it up.

Blood Type #1 (Oni Press/EC Comics) – Oni’s relaunch of the EC comic line has been excellent so far with a nice mix of classic EC horror and modern style.

Breadcrumbs: Coming Of Age In Post-Soviet (23rd St.) – A graphic memoir about living in Post-Soviet Poland sounds amazing, educational, and eye-opening for those who haven’t experienced that world.

Death Of The Silver Surfer #1 (Marvel) – We’re dubious on the whole “death” thing but lets face it, the Silver Surfer has featured some classic stories.

New Avengers #1 (Marvel) – The team sounds awesome with just the right mix of screw-ups mixed together. We’re also convinced this will be a key series for whatever happens post “One World Under Doom.”

One World Under Doom #5 (Marvel) – The event has been excellent so far and we want to see if the heroes of the world will team up with Doom to take on an even bigger threat.

Robin And Batman: Jason Todd #1 (DC Comics) – Jeff Lemire and Dustin Nguyen teaming again. Nuff said.

Transformers #21 (Skybound/Image Comics) – The series has been fantastic and this issue teases Optimus vs. Megatron!

Umbrella Academy: Plan B #1 (Dark Horse) – Umbrella Academy is back! Read our early review of the first issue!

Ghostbusters: Dead Man’s Chest #1 (Dark Horse Comics) – Ghost pirates + Ghostbusters = How can it not be awesome?

The Killer: Affairs Of The State II #1 (BOOM! Studios/Archaia) – This series about a killer for hire has been amazing not for its cool, calm, and collected lead, but the deep politics and commentary within.

Origin Vol. 10 (Vertical Comics) – The series about an android that looks human trying to find its place in the world has been amazing and wraps up with this volume.

Out Of Alcatraz #3 (Oni Press) – If you like old school prison break stories, you’ll dig this one.

Robo Wolf #1 (Dark Horse Comics) – The character is called Robo Wolf. Do we really need to sell you on this? Fine. Robo Wolf’s daughter is being held for ransom and Robo Wolf needs to get stolen money to her kidnappers. Plus there’s bloodthirsty cannibals, ninjas, and robots!

Sleep #1 (Image Comics) – From Zander Cannon, every night Jonathan Reason falls asleep and becomes something else. Then wakes up covered in blood!

Solo Leveling Vol. 12 (Yen Press) – The series feels like it’s entering it’s final chapter(s) and building to a massive battle finale.

Spider-Man And Wolverine #1 (Marvel) – The cover reminds us of some Capcom action and that alone has us interested.

Superman Unlimited #1 (DC Comics) – Dan Slott takes on Superman!

The Thing #1 (Marvel) – The concept of the entire world turned on the Thing and him trying to find out why has us excited to check this out.

The Ultimates #12 (Marvel) – Where this team book is going, we have no idea but it keeps changing things up in a good way and is packed with surprises.

Whatever Happened To Crimson Justice #1 (Mad Cave Studios) – There was a time that when the Red Alert shone in the sky, Empire City’s greatest hero, the Crimson Justice, would answer the call. But now it’s been years and neither he– nor his sidekick Reddy, nor their psychotic arch foe, Dr. Mayhem– have been seen since the Great Empire City Hospital Fire decades ago. What happened that fateful night?

Absolute Superman #7 (DC Comics) – A fantastic take on the classic character that feels fresh and exciting and each issue has been amazing.

Adieu Birkenau: Ginette Kolinkas’ Story of Survival (SelfMadeHero) – It is October 2020. Ninety-five-year-old Ginette takes advantage of a lull in the COVID-19 epidemic to accompany a group visiting Birkenau one last time. As a farewell, she brings with her a journalist, France Info’s Victor Matet, and a comic strip writer, J-D Morvan.

Blood And Thunder #1 (Skybound) – Earth has integrated alien species into a new society-meaning there’s a whole new set of rules…and a whole load of new crimes to solve. Yeah, we’re in for this.

Captain Planet #1 (Dynamite Entertainment) – Writer David Pepose has rocked the relaunch of Space Ghost and Speed Racer and we’re beyond excited for this revival of the animated classic.

Fantastic Four Fanfare #1 (Marvel) – A new anthology series focused on Marvel’s First Family with each issue focused on a particular member.

Free Planet #1 (Image Comics) – The first completely free planet in human history has won its independence. Now, a group of revolutionary heroes must defend the planet’s unique energy source from a pair of hostile intergalactic powers while determining what complete freedom actually entails.

G.I. Joe A Real American Hero #316 (Skybound) – When members of Cobra’s elite Crimson Guard turn to the Joes for sanctuary, it’s an opportunity for Snake Eyes, Scarlett, and their ninja team to eliminate the threat of Springfield once and for all.

Giant Orson Welles The Artist And The Shadow (23rd St.) – A graphic novel that sounds like it weaves fact and fiction about Welles’ life has us excited to check out the second release from 23rd St.

Phenomena Volume 3 The Secret (Abrams Comicarts) – The third volume in Brian Michael Bendis and Andre Lima Araujo’s intriguing new world wraps things up and reveals the secret behind the phenomena.

Plague House #2 (Oni Press) – The debut of this series delivered an interesting twist on the Ghost Hunters concept and it’ll be interesting to see how it plays out to what was teased.

Star Wars #1 (Marvel) – A new adventure set after Return of the Jedi as Luke, Leia, and Han have to navigate what comes next.

Ultimate Wolverine #5 (Marvel) – Great art and great storytelling, this piece of the puzzle of the new Ultimate Universe has been great.

Uncanny Valley #9 (BOOM! Studios) – Take Who Framed Roger Rabbit and mix in The Terminator and The Matrix and you’ve got this series whose art mixing the real world and animated stands out as some of the most unique on the comic shelf.

Vanishing Point #1 (Mad Cave Studios) – Mark Russell and Juan Doe together for a sci-fi story? Yeah, this is a must read.

Heavy Metal Magazine #1 (Heavy Metal) – Heavy Metal is back! Let’s see if the magic’s still there.

Kill Train #4 (Mad Cave Studios) – B-movie excitement at its best. A group of average individuals need to get off a train which is filled will killers. A crazy concept that totally works.

The Lemonade War (Clarion Books) – The popular book gets adapted as a graphic novel!

Lost Marvels Vol. 1 Tower Of Shadows (Fantagraphics) – A horror anthology from Marvel and published in 1969 gets collected. Neal Adams, Jim Steranko, Barry Windsor-Smith, John Buscema, Gene Colan, Wally Wood, Stan Lee, Roy Thomas, John Romita, Johnny Craig, Marie Severin, Gerry Conway, and Bernie Wrightson, and more are featured.

Planet Death #0 (Bad Idea) – Bad Idea is back in shops. After a bunch of Kickstarters and limited distribution, they’re now expanded and can be in every shop. This series looks like great sci-fi whose art reminds us of Warhammer 40K. That and the creative team has us pumped to check it out.

Power Company Recharged #1 (DC Comics) – Josiah Power and Jefferson Pierce lead the newest iteration of the Power Company with a new purpose of rebuilding humanity’s faith in heroes and fighting back against the rising anti-metahuman movement. We’re intrigued. We’re very intrigued.

Saint Catherine (23rd Street) – The debut from 23rd Street which is a new publisher we’ve been excited to see what they’re doing. The first release involves a religious girl who goes to services every week, then skips one and gets possessed by a demon.

The Slasher’s Apprentice #1 (Mad Cave Studios) – A horror-obsessed podcaster with a slasher villain fixation, is seeking a new career path: Helping her favorite legendary slasher, The Hopton Valley Killer, regain their long-lost notoriety while learning the ropes herself. Hells yes to this.

Void Rivals #18 (Skybound) – The series has become key and revealed a lot of Transformers history. We’re excited to check out the next reveal and what else we find out. At this point, we have no idea where this is going and how it ties into Transformers and G.I. JOE.

We’re Taking Everyone Down With Us #2 (Image Comics) – A young girl’s supervillain father is killed and she’s out for revenge.
