IDW announces Dungeons & Dragons: Honor Among Thieves—The Feast of the Moon

 In anticipation of Paramount Pictures’ upcoming Dungeons & Dragons: Honor Among Thieves, IDW Publishing will release a comic prequel, Dungeons & Dragons: Honor Among Thieves—The Feast of the Moon, which will be available in February 2023, ahead of the film’s theatrical release. Written by Jeremy Lambert and Ellen Boener with art by Eduardo Ferigato and Guillermo Sanna, Feast of the Moon introduces Edgin, Holga, and more of the movie’s ignoble antiheroes, and tells the thrilling, hilarious, and unexpected story of events leading up to the epic calamity that will ultimately ensnare them.

Stranded in a town under siege after their latest heist goes awry, Edgin and his band of thieves find themselves enmeshed in a bitter conflict between the town’s inhabitants and a tyrannical Bandit King who has exploited the town’s resources for years under threat of violence and ruin. With their backs against the wall, Edgin and his associates vow to help the townsfolk repel the Bandit King’s forces once and for all—but as the danger escalates and the thieves’ loyalties are tested, allegiances begin to shift, and it soon becomes clear that all is not as it seems.

Review: Last Flight Out #1

Last Flight Out #1

Last Flight Out #1 is an interesting debut. The comic centers on a man who is completely unlikeable. There’s little when it comes to any redeeming qualities. In fact, the series is about escaping a dying Earth and part of me wants him to be left behind so he suffers. But, after reading the first issue, I still want to see where this goes.

Marc Guggenheim takes us to another doomed Earth. This one has been ravaged by climate change and disease like COVID. Arks are being constructed to escape the planet with the third and last to take off in a day. The architect behind those arcs is an utter asshole and horrible father who neglected his daughter after his wife, her mother, died in a car accident. Is it any surprise she ran away and might not want to leave the planet with her father?

Last Flight Out #1 is set up as a journey of a father who is attempting to reach his daughter before disaster. But, it reads about a rich, privileged asshole who endangers a group of soldiers so he can force his daughter to do something she probably doesn’t want to do. I’m sure there’ll be twists and turns in there but right now, I’m hoping a soldier accidently caps the main character in the head during the journey.

What’s really interesting about the series is the small details Guggenheim includes. There’s of course the info about how the world has gone to crap but it’s the small mentions of what has been done to build these arks to escape. There’s the use of social media discussions to echo the denial that is currently dooming our world. The strained relationship and want of escape is something so many of us are experiencing and so many of us want to do. Guggenheim captures some of the current zeitgeist in this science fiction tale.

The art by Eduardo Ferigato sets up the world nicely. We’re mostly presented a bubble of wealth and privilege. The series is clearly taking us elsewhere so the change between what we’ve witnessed and what we will witness will be interesting. Joined by Marcelo Costa on color and Diego Sanches on lettering, the art does a solid job of delivering an emotional coldness throughout. There’s a calculated decision in everything it feels like and that feels reflected in the characters, none of whom feel warm beyond the small child neglected.

Last Flight Out #1 is an interesting comic. The main character is one we want to die. I’m cheering for the military with him to just put a bullet in him and head back to the ship before it takes off. I want something bad to happen. But, I’m also intrigued as to where this is going. Is there any redemption? Will there be a “happy” ending? With such a bleak, cold opening, here’s hoping the comic delivers a little hope and happiness.

Eduardo Ferigato and Natália Marques Join Radiant Black in June

Artist Eduardo Ferigato and colorist Natália Marques will join Kyle Higgins and Marcelo Costa on the bestselling superhero series Radiant Black. The new team members will contribute their talents to the upcoming Radiant Black #5, on sale this June from Image Comics.

After Radiant Black #4’s heart-stopping cliffhanger the Radiant Black team isn’t done subverting readers’ expectations and will provide fans with an extra-length, explosive climax to the first story arc in issue #5.

Radiant Black #4 Heads Back to Print

The bestselling Radiant Black #4 by Kyle Higgins and Marcelo Costa has sold out upon its release yesterday and left fans stunned after a jaw-dropping showdown between Radiant Black and his nemesis, Radiant Red. This pivotal issue is being rushed back to print in order to keep up with the unending demand.

Exclusive: Kickstarter Hit “Inferno Girl Red” Gets a Ten-Page “Ashcan” Stretch Goal

Inferno Girl Red is a hit on Kickstarter reaching its funding in two days and delivering some awesome rewards. From Mat Groom and Erica D’Urso, Inferno Girl Red is an all-new original graphic novel that combines high school super-heroic drama with the dynamic storytelling and world-building of Japanese tokusatsu superheroes, and the intrigue and relationship drama of British boarding school fiction. The Kickstarter campaign to crowdfund this all-new 100-page, hardcover superhero graphic novel by Groom, D’Urso, colorist Igor Monti, letterer Becca Carey, editor Kyle Higgins, and design group For The People, will run through May 5th, 2021.

The Kickstarter has blown past its goal with over 900 backers and still 25 days to go. Last week, a new tier was announced, 10 INFERNO GIRL RED helmets which are jaw dropping. These will be available, along with the hardcover and a Radiant Black/ Inferno Girl Red print for $650. 9 of them are already gone!

Now?

If the campaign reaches $70,000, a new stretch goal will be unlocked. Every physical reward tier will receive a ten-page, black-and-white ‘ashcan’-style mini-comic that details an adventure of a different, mysterious Inferno Girl Red! This mini-comic will be written by Matt Groom, and drawn in a sketchy style (which you can get a sense of from the cover which you can see up) by artist Valeria Favoccia (who has already contributed a stunning art print for the campaign).

When you’re building an entirely new world, you also have to build an entirely new history. Erica and I have delighted in this process – creating weird and wonderful foundations that have a major influence on the present. This mini-comic is a chance to explore one of those foundations.

We didn’t have any to steal any of Erica’s time and energy from drawing the book itself, though — so we turned to Valeria Favoccia, who created an INFERNO GIRL RED print for our campaign that perfectly captured the spirit of our world. Erica and Valeria are close, and will be collaborating closely — ensuring Valeria can bring unique style and energy while still ensuring this mini-comic feels cohesive with our larger narrative world.

But what is Inferno Girl Red?

We all need something to believe in. Especially Cássia Costa. An ancient cult and their army of demons have stolen Cássia’s home, Apex City.  When a magical dragon bracelet rockets into her life and affixes itself to her arm, Cássia’s the only person equipped to stop the cult from offering the entire city to their dark lord. There’s just one catch…

The magical bracelet is powered by belief, and Cássia — an intensely pragmatic, rational girl – doesn’t have much to spare.
