The project I’m here to write about today is Your Are Not Alone 3, the latest installment of our anti-bullying anthology aimed at younger readers who are confronted with issues like abuse, depression, homophobia, racism and violence on a daily basis. The stories themselves are filled with messages of hope and contained within the books’ chapters are resource contacts for those who feel they have no place to turn.
For more than five years, GrayHaven Comics has offered itself as a place that supports new creative voices. In those 5 years we’ve published over 70 comics and featured over 300 different creators who often got their work published for the very first time.
Our most ambitious project to date was You Are Not Alone, our anti-bullying anthology aimed at younger readers. In the Fall of 2013 I was honored to take home the award for Comic Book Creator of the Year by Geekadelphia and the Philly Geek Awards for the work done on You Are Not Alone This was followed a year later by the equally important You Are Not Alone 2.
Now the time has come to revisit these themes in a 3rd volume of You Are Not Alone.
Unlike our first two volumes where our crowdfunding was created a year before publishing, You Are Not Alone 3 is almost completed. The final stories are being lettered and the book will be ready to go to print by mid to late August. This means your rewards will arrive shortly after the successful funding of this project.
The successful funding of our previous You Are Not Alone volumes allowed us to go above and beyond where we wanted to reach an audience. It allowed us to create additional copies and the money earned help to offset printing and shipping costs which enabled us to comp copies of the book to schools and youth organizations that wanted them.
We aren’t offering a lot of ‘bells and whistles’ with this campaign, choosing to keep things simple for the most part. There are PDF and Print versions of the book. Standard and variant covers. We added a few art rewards from some talented illustrators as well as some editorial feedback rewards.
The Kickstarter campaign is in its early days but we need some help in getting the word out there. We want to be able to reach goal quickly in order to put some cool stretch goals in place. Thank you for taking the time to read this and please pledge and share the link.

For those who haven’t heard, there’s been massive issues with shipping in the United States due to a labor dispute that has slowed down, and at times shut down, the Long Beach, CA ports. The problems there have affected companies who rely on it to receive material from around the world. Wizkids and Fantasy Flight Games have both seen delays to their releases due to the issue. A strike in December delayed comics from IDW Publishing, and it looks like it’s happening again.
IDW has announced that the titles that were to arrive on February 18 won’t be making it. In an announcement they said:
Due to the ongoing problems at West coast ports, our normal shipping procedures have been completely interrupted, causing unpredictable delays. Regrettably, this has resulted in all our books planned for release on 2/18 to be delayed. We’ve looked at every possible scenario to prevent this, but the situation is completely beyond our control. We are taking steps to improve this for the immediate future, but the books and products that are currently on the water cannot be re-directed. We will be updating our weekly releases and keeping you informed as the situation works toward a resolution. We understand this is not an ideal situation, and apologize for any inconvenience this causes, and look forward to things getting back to normal in ensuing weeks.
To keep things fair, they will also be delaying their digital releases that week as well.
With all the delays, which costs publishers money, you wonder if it’s finally at a point it might be cheaper to print domestically?

Marvel has announced their summer event, Original Sin! The eight part series comes courtesy of writer Jason Aaron and artist Mike Deodato Jr.
On the moon, the dead body of Uatu, the Watcher is discovered. His home destroyed. Looted of its valuable alien technology. Now, the manhunt is on. And the biggest heroes of the Marvel Universe – Captain America, Iron Man, Wolverine, Black Widow, and more are on the hunt for his murderer.
But no one is ready for the secret knowledge the Watcher held. Secrets that will shake the Marvel Universe and its heroes to their very core!
Aaron gave some details on the story, saying:
…it’s basically a crime story. A murder mystery. A manhunt. But with the entirety of the Marvel Universe as its backdrop. We’re taking all the toys out of their packaging for this one. Everyone and everything is in play. For some characters, life will never be the same again. And it’s only a matter of time before more bodies are popping up.
The question is, what did the Watcher see and who would want him dead because of it?
We also got more details through a live Q&A today hosted by Marvel.
The idea came from Joe Quesada at a Marvel retreat. It all started with the idea of a murdered Watcher, which would put all of his most treasured secrets up for grabs. At first no one wanted it and it remained out there for a few retreats. About three retreats ago, Aaron became intrigued by the cosmic crime story aspect and was tasked to figure out the story, who killed the Watcher and why, so he stepped up to take a crack at it.
Nick Fury is the main investigator with Captain America, the Avengers, Thor, Dr. Strange, Black Panther, Punisher, Emma Frost, Moon Knight and a few others getting involved. Each chosen for a specific reason. Those characters head in different directions and parts of the Marvel Universe as they attempt to solve the mystery through different investigations. There’s action in space, the Punisher and Dr. Strange head to other dimensions, some unusual places are involved. Gamora, Moon Knight and Winter Soldier head into space. Another team-up is Emma Frost and Ant-Man (the Scott Lang version). There are some villains too, but that remains a secret for now. Aaron is certain folks won’t guess who is involved.
The death of the Watcher isn’t the only issue, all of his belongings are up for grabs as well with some major consequences. Imagine all of his recordings falling into the wrong hands. Some items and secrets do indeed go missing. Those secrets and how they got out are revealed in the first two issues.
While the main series is eight issues, Aaron did hint there’ll be tie-ins much like other events of year’s past, though with no specifics. The main series tells the story of the murder and investigation. The tie-ins will deal with the fall-out of that murder and the secrets that come out because of it.
We can expect consequences out of this that will affect the Marvel Universe, especially for certain characters. Towards the end of the chat Aaron laid it out there that Uatu won’t be the only casualty of the event.
The event starts in April with a #0 issue by Mark Waid and Jim Cheung.
