Dark Horse to Publish an Errand Boys Collection

Errand Boys by D.J. Kirkbride, Nikos Koutsis, and Frank Cvetkovic is being collected at Dark Horse Comics for the first time ever.

A runner for a shady errand—and sometimes shifty smuggling—service finds an unexpected partner in his half-human, teenage half-brother!

In the future, a decent job is tough to find, especially if you’re a hard-worn scoundrel with commitment issues. But there’s one position that’s always open—an errand runner. Jace is a lifelong solo act handling miscellaneous tasks that are often dangerous, and rarely legal, for the most questionable of clients. But when his thirteen-year-old half-human half-brother comes to live with him, he’s got two mouths to feed and this is the only one way he knows how to put money on the table. Between evading the law, running from angry aliens, and jumping off skyscrapers, can Jace survive being a big brother? Navigating to the furthest depths of the solar system, the only thing weirder than the vastness of space is family.

You can outrun monsters, but you can’t outrun duty!

Errand Boys trade paperback will be in comic shops April 13, 2022 and in bookstores April 26, 2022. It is available for pre-order on Amazon, Barnes & Noble, and at your local comic shop and bookstore. Errand Boys will retail for $19.99 and it collects Errand Boys #1-#5.

Zoop Celebrates National Comic Book Day with a Comic Sampler

Zoop

Starting off with full disclosure, I’m the marketing manager for Zoop. It’s why we haven’t covered the new crowdfunding platform at all, I just felt it weird crossing the streams and one who cares about the “ethics” of journalism it’s a bit hard to mix things up for me. But, today is National Comic Book Day and the platform is celebrating that with a cool sampler of all of the crowdfunding projects past and present on the site. You can catch more of that below.

I more wanted to talk about why I’m excited about being a part of the Zoop team. The simple answer is, we get to do stuff like this. I’ve been reading and collecting comics for over 35 years. My collection is massive (100+ long boxes) and the variation of comics is… a lot. There’s big publishers, small publishers, indie comics, paper stapled together after being xeroxed. It varies. I really like comic books. And, I like talking about comics and sharing what I like and promoting them. Hence this site.

That’s part of what drew me to Zoop and the team. I get to promote cool comics. I get to help try to make them a reality. So far, we’ve succeeded with them all and I’ve backed every single one. We not only get to help make these comics a reality by getting them funded but we’re building a community while doing it. Unlike other crowdfunding platform, this isn’t every creator in their mostly walled off garden. We use each campaign to build on the next. We’re attempting to bring together comic fans who want to help make this creator-owned indie comics a reality. To be a part of that is really cool.

When I was 20ish I helped published an indie comic that was released during San Diego Comic-Con. I got my name in the credits. That won’t happen here but to see that at 20 is such a cool exprience. I helped create something that others could enjoy. I get to do that every day with Zoop. And that’s what’s cool about this sampler, I feel like I’m 20 again with its release.

Today, I’ll be out promoting the current projects that are looking for funding, all three of them, and in-between spending some time reading some comics myself.

Check out the first Zoop sampler release and all of the comics that you can currently help make a reality. Links are within the comic sampler, so dive in, enjoy, and help celebrate today by reading some comics and maybe help make some a reality.

Current projects currently funding found within the sampler include:

  • Trickster by Neil Gibson, Connor McCreery, and Veronica Saraceno
  • The Brothers James by Brian Level, Ryan Ferrier, and Eamon Hill
  • Cornerman by Ray-Anthony Height and Chris Robinson

Successfully funded projects include:

  • Slow City Blues by Samuel Haine, Shawn Moll, John Livesay, David Baron, and Thomas Mauer
  • Scarlett Couture – The Munich File by Des Taylor
  • Resolution by Ron Marz, Andy Lanning, and Rick Leonardi
  • Heads Will Roll by Bart Sears
  • Remember Andy Xenon? by Tom Pinchuk and Nikos Koutsis

Review: Savage Dragon #258

Savage Dragon #258

Savage Dragon #258 takes readers on “A Walk On The Wildside”. Amy Dragon sneaks off on an adventure with Walter, the talking tiger. Sadly, dinnertime is not the time for such actions and they find themselves in trouble (and snow) moment after moment.

To be honest, Savage Dragon #258 was a bit of a snoozer. Amy and Walter’s little adventure wasn’t that exciting. The most exciting part was the beginning where Malcolm was battling the God of Thunder. After that, it delved into something a lot more chill and peaceful which didn’t really resonate with me. Partly, I don’t get to read every issue of Savage Dragon that comes out. I do want to say that while the story wasn’t my cup ‘o tea, I think that it’s an impressive feat that series creator Erik Larsen can keep Savage Dragon in some oddball adventures like this one, which helps it be unique.

While I wasn’t blown away by the story, Larsen’s art is still something to behold and this issue had quite a few moments where I liked what I was seeing. The opening page was full-on Kirby (in a good way) and what followed was a very energetic two-page splash. Nikos Koutsis is a fantastic colorist for Larsen’s work and I thought that this issue showed that. I do feel like Larsen has gotten a bit loose with his pencils, as compared to how I think his older issues of Savage Dragon look but I do still think there are quality visuals in this issue. It’s good to know that I can still appreciate the art on a book like this, even if the story doesn’t click with me.

Image Reveals #WeBelieve in Colorists Apperciation Variants

Image Comics has revealed the black and white Spawn #286 cover artwork by legendary artist Todd McFarlane and the seven Colorist Appreciation variants that display the high impact of colorists on the artistic medium.

A selection of bestselling colorists—Moreno Dinisio, Frank Martin, Matthew Wilson, Owen Gieni, Annalisa Leoni, Nikos Koutsis, Jean-Francois Beaulieu—each put their own spin on the same McFarlane cover for these #WeBelieve in Colorists variants, and each cover displays their radically different techniques and stunning results.

We Believe in Colorists is the second of many initiatives throughout Image’s planned #WeBelieve 2018 campaign highlighting the important, lately overlooked talent of the comics industry.

Comics is a visual storytelling medium with an artist’s inks and the colorist’s pallete working hand in hand to convey the tone and mood within a finished piece of artwork.

Stretch Armstrong Reaches Into Comics

Stretch Armstrong will be flexing his multi-media muscles even further this coming January when the first issue of Stretch Armstrong and the Flex Fighters arrives.

Based on the all-new Netflix animated series and inspired by the classic toy line, Stretch Armstrong and the Flex Fighters features Jake Armstrong, a teenage superhero who teams up with his high school friends after they are exposed to experimental chemicals that give them amazing powers. Along with his partners Ricardo Perez, AKA Omni-Mass, and Nathan Park, AKA Wingspan, they’re a diverse group of heroes who attend high school by day and fight crime by night in the futuristic Charter City!

The comics will be written by series Executive Producers and head writers Kevin Burke and Chris “Doc” Wyatt with art by Nikos Koutsis. Cover art will be provided by Aluir Amancio and Koutsis. Burke and Wyatt developed Stretch Armstrong for television in collaboration with fellow Executive Producer, Victor Cook.

The forthcoming comic book series will take place during the events of this fall’s debut season of the Stretch Armstrong and the Flex Fighters animated series. Fans who pick up the comic series will get an early glimpse at a new villain introduced in the comics before making its broadcast debut, laying the groundwork for more adventures to come! It wouldn’t be a stretch to say Stretch Armstrong and the Flex Fighters #1 will be available in print and digital January 2018.
