Vault announces a line of Compact Edition Graphic Novels

Compact comics are back again! After the success of DC’s Compact Editions and Marvel’s Marvel Premiere, Vault Comics has announced Vantage, an new line of compact sized graphic novels that will republish some of Vault’s most beloved series in a new portable format. Sized at  5.5” by 8.5”, each compact edition graphic novel will collect either the entire series or contain multiple story arcs of longer ongoing series. Each volume will be a stunningly presented, satisfying reading experience priced at just $14.99. $14.99 is the same amount as Marvel’s releases while DC’s are priced at $9.99.

Vault’s Vantage line will debut with three titles in December 2025, with a second wave to follow that will be announced in the coming weeks. The first batch of Vantage releases will include the following:

Patton Oswalt, Tim Seeley, and Garth Graham Launch Money Shot: Big Bang

Vault has announced that superstar actor, comedian, and writer Patton Oswalt, legendary creator Tim Seeley, and webcomics sensation Garth Graham have partnered for a brand new Money Shot series, Money Shot: Big Bang. Oswalt and Seeley are co-writing the series, with Graham illustrating, Kurt Michael Russell coloring, Crank! lettering, and Tim Daniel designing.      

Money Shot: Big Bang will debut with a can’t-miss zero issue in January 2025 that will bring readers up to speed on everything that’s happened in Money Shot so far, while also setting the stage for the hilarious new story from Oswalt, Seeley, and Graham. Then in February 2025, Money Shot Big Bang #1 will hit store shelves, kicking off the brand new storyline just in time for Valentine’s Day!

Underground legend Cherry Popstar comes to Money Shot Comes Again

Vault Comics made the comics industry collectively blush in 2019 when they released the first issue of Money Shot, the space age sex comedy created by Tim Seeley, which went on to sell through multiple printings and an initial run of 15 issues.

Now, the XXX-plorers are back on their hands and knees for the good of humanity! When the giant ass space jellyfish who run the ordered universe arrive on earth, the porn-stars-cum-science explorers must put away grudges, crushes, and side-hustles to again take one (or two, or three) for the team.

Vault Announces Caroline Leigh Layne as New Artist on Money Shot

Vault Comics has announced that Caroline Leigh Layne is the new regular artist on the hit ongoing series, Money Shot. Layne’s run on the sexy sci-fi series will debut with Money Shot #11, the beginning of the series’ third arc.

Vault’s “Greatest Hits” Comes to Heavy Metal

Vault Comics has announced a partnership with Heavy Metal Entertainment. The partnership will commence today with the release of a selection of Vault’s “Greatest Hits” titles to date, featuring exclusive new cover design. Heavy Metal is focusing on strategic partnerships with publishers and content creators focused on their growth in the marketplace.

The first wave of product under this new partnership will feature Heathen, Money Shot, The Plot, These Savage Shores, and Wasted Space among others, and will expand in the coming months to include exclusive packaging of new #1 titles from Vault, with unique dress treatments and cover art, and a new digest format that will feature an entire line of select Vault titles in a serialized compendium style book format, and an assortment of merchandise created in partnership with Threadless.

Billy Bane is a prophet who got it all wrong, and the galaxy has been burning ever since. All he wants is to waste away in the darkest corner of space with his best pal Dust, a supercharged Fuq bot. Money Shot, The Plot, and Sera and the Royal Stars Get Second Arcs in 2020

Vault has announced, after the tremendous success of each series, that Money Shot, The Plot, and Sera and the Royal Stars have all been extended for second arcs that will debut in 2020.

Sera and the Royal Stars will begin its second arc in February 2020 with issue #6, The Plot will begin its second arc in April 2020 with issue #5, and Money Shot will begin its second arc with issue #6 in April 2020. 

Sera and the Royal Stars is a stunning epic fantasy series written by Jon Tsuei, drawn by Audrey Mok, colored by Raúl Angulo, lettered by Jim Campbell, and designed by Tim Daniel. The first arc of Sera and the Royal Stars will be collected in a trade paperback edition that hits store shelves in January 2020. 

The Plot is Vault’s first horror series published under Nightfall, Vault’s autumnal horror imprint. The Plot is written by Tim Daniel and Michael Moreci, drawn by Joshua Hixson, colored by Jordan Boyd, lettered by Jim Campbell, and designed by Tim Daniel. The first arc of The Plot will be collected in trade paperback edition that hits store shelves in February 2020.

Review: Money Shot #1

Money Shot #1

Money Shot #1 is an interesting comic. In part a spoof. In part commentary. And in part serious sci-fi. The comic does a lot and does it all just ok.

Written by Tim Seeley and Sarah Beattie Money Shot is a story about scientists who take to the stars and become pornstars to fund their adventures. It’s the future and an anti-science administration is in charge of the government. Humanity has made contact with aliens and while first they’re welcomed once the galactic community finds out how screwed up humanity is, that invitation is rescinded.

That concept alone is an interesting statement and commentary but from there the comic spirals. It has a sense that it’s trying to be edgy and comedic with the porn angle. So far it doesn’t add a whole lot to the comic. It’s just there. The humor doesn’t quite come off the way it needs to. Beyond being the hook it doesn’t add much at all. Is it porn? Is it comedy? How about sci-fi? What about social commentary? It attempts to be all things and doesn’t really succeed in any.

The art by Rebekah Isaacs is interesting leaning more towards the comedy than sexy. There’s glimpses of nudity but like the story, the art feels like it dances around the subject instead of committing in some ways. But, the art has a lot of personality in design and along with Kurt Michael‘s color pops in some ways.

Money Shot #1 is very much the set up introducing us to the cast of characters and setting up the dynamic. It has glimpses of really smart commentary. But, so far it doesn’t really commit to it or pull off what I think it’s going for. Like porn, it goes through the motions but feels a little empty and fake.

Horde (AfterShock) – An original graphic novel that turns the issue of hoarding into a horror tale.

Immortal Hulk #25 (Marvel) – The previous issue of Hulk ended in a shocker and now the heat death of the universe has come and gone. The Ninth Cosmos cowers before the Breaker of Worlds!

Marauders #1 (Marvel) – The latest Dawn of X release focuses on Kate Pryde and her crew whose goal is to liberate mutants who can’t make it to Krakoa.

Money Shot #1 (Vault Comics) – Pornstars explore the universe and each other. Scientists having sex with aliens for the glory of mankind.

Open Borders (First Second) – A graphic novel exploring immigration and makes the case for opening all borders and unrestricted immigration.

Second Coming #4 (AHOY Comics) – An amazing series that both is a love letter to and skewers religion and its followers.

Super Sons Book 2 The Foxglove Mission (DC Comics) – The first volume was a lot of fun and solid storytelling for younger readers. This volume continues the adventure of Damian and Jon trying to find a sample of a deadly virus.
