Todd McFarlane Productions has revealed its latest addition to the Spawn Universe with Violator: Origin. Written by Marc Andreyko and featuring a lineup of artists—including Piotr Kowalski, Kyle Hotz, Jonathan Wayshak, Gianenrico Bonacorsi, Cully Hamner, and Von Randall—this six-issue saga will reveal the mythos behind one of the most popular figures in the Spawn Universe.

In Violator: Origin, readers will embark on a fantastic journey through time, revealing the long-awaited origin of the Violator. The story is narrated by the devious storyteller, Violator, himself. Every living creature on Earth has been devolved – the evolutionary clock turned back, reverting all life to odd mutations and prehistoric incarnations. The cities of man are little more than bloody territories ruthlessly dominated by tribal Neanderthals ruling from the backs of mammoths, packs of saber-toothed tigers, and giant man-eating insects. Raja, one of the few remaining “Still Sapien” humans, heads to San Francisco to find the antidote for the world-changing DVO-8 viral agent. But to cross the wasteland, she’ll have to convince the last pocket of humanity to join her quest… and survive the Nazi hillbillies that rule them through fear!

Dark Horse Comics Deploys Justin Jordan for Call of Duty: Zombies

Dark Horse Comics, Activision Publishing, Inc., and award-winning game development studio, Treyarch have teamed up to deliver Call of Duty: Zombies, a comic book series of undead proportions, written by comics superstar Justin Jordan, and illustrated by Jonathan Wayshak, with story by Zombies Director, Jason Blundell and the studio’s Lead Writer, Craig Houston. With incredible covers by superstar artist Simon Bisley, the waves of undead come straight out of Call of Duty: Black Ops III Zombies experience and onto the pages of Dark Horse Comics!

Since Treyarch first introduced Zombies to the Call of Duty franchise as an Easter Egg in Call of Duty: World at War, it has grown into its own pop-culture phenomenon, becoming an indispensable part of what game fans expect from a Call of Duty game. Now, Treyarch’s Blundell and Houston help take fans even deeper down the rabbit hole…

On his quest to secure an ancient artifact known as The Kronorium, Doctor Edward Richtofen enlists the help of The Tranzit Crew, a rag tag group of survivors last seen in the Black Ops II Zombies installment Buried. On a deeply unstable and fractured future Earth, Stuhlinger, Misty, Russman, and Marlton battle for survival against the undead horde, as they slowly uncover the truth behind Richtofen’s mysterious reappearance. The Call of Duty: Zombies miniseries follows these characters’ perilous journey of discovery, filling in crucial pieces of the larger Zombies story.

Review: Devolution #5

tndevolution05covalee

The last humans on Earth face Neanderthal hordes and the bastards who started this whole mess. Can there be a solution? A death. A compromise. A lie. The big twist comes. Check out the thrilling series finale from Rick Remender, self-described as “a heavy dose of high-octane action, character drama, a world of strange reverse mutations, and social commentary – as we follow the last tribe of humans inoculated from the devolution agent as they set out on a desperate journey to try to find a way to re-evolve life on Earth.

What a shocking ending to such an underrated series.  Given the ending in Devolution #5, it does make me wonder if they are going to try and continue the series in a second volume. This entire issue is full of surprises, so be prepared. Especially since one of those surprises could be an easy spin-off with a new set of characters.

Artist Jonathan Wayshak manages to capture some of the stranger, more surprising moments in this final issue well. That big surprise has a simple appearance, but seems to have a strong grounding in reality. The strange figure in the ending is creepy and wonderful.
