IDW Announces Three New Hires and Two Promotions

From the sewers of New York to boldly exploring strange new worlds, IDW Publishing has big plans for 2026. And, as everyone knows, building comics takes teamwork. IDW has announced new talented people to the company while also recognizing the hard work of two exceptional employees.

Left to right: Jake Thomas, Darran Robinson, Corey Wells, Ryan Balkam, Cassandra Jones. Art by Megan Levens

Jake Thomas joins the team as Group Editor. With 11 years at Marvel and four years at Humanoids, Jake brings his passion for comics to the TMNT line while also supporting other lines, like GODZILLA and SONIC THE HEDGEHOG.

IDW proudly welcomes Darran Robinson and Corey Wells to the company. As Art Director, Darran will focus primarily on designs, logos, and much more for various IDW comics and projects. He worked at DC for almost eight years, and also worked on design projects for Disney, WWE, Activision, and more. As Fan Engagement Coordinator, Corey will expand IDW’s community engagement through social media, videos, events, and much more. Corey’s previous experience includes working in comic book shops (Fantom Comics, Showcase Comics) and TKO Studios.

Ryan Balkam has been promoted from Speciality Sales Manager to Director of Sales. With more than two years of experience at IDW, Ryan will focus on sales analysis, publishing and retailer strategies, and much more. During his time at IDW, he heavily promoted TMNT’s best-selling relaunch, crafted the hit TMNT #13 blind bag program, and built the engaging Whatnot partnership.

Cassandra Jones received a promotion from Editorial Assistant to Associate Editor. With almost two years at IDW, Cassandra will continue to help craft and coordinate comics from the STAR TREK and MONSTER HIGH lines, as well as select horror comics from the IDW DARK imprint.

SDCC 2025: IDW reveals the next era of Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles comics

During San Diego Comic-Con 2025, IDW Publishing announced the ambitious and fan-focused plans for the future of the acclaimed and best-selling line of Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles (TMNT) comic books.

After an incredible ongoing series run from Jason Aaron and Juan Ferrerya, the high-quality, heartfelt and exciting storytelling that fans deserve won’t miss a beat with the arrival of an all-star duo: Eisner-winning writer Gene Luen Yang and blockbuster artist Freddie E. Williams II. Also joining the line is Group Editor Jake Thomas, formerly of Marvel. Starting their run with Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles #13 in December, this all-new story arc will provide fans with a fresh jumping on point as the Heroes in a Half-Shell are back together and hopeful about the future of the city, but there’s a dark and personal danger lurking in the shadows as a deadly new assassin makes their debut.

To celebrate the new era with Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles #13, there will be a special blind bag variant for collectors, featuring exciting variants by amazing creators like Daniel Warren Johnson, David Nakayama, Clayton Crain, and more. Additionally, an annual issue, from writer Kenny Porter and artists Michael Shelfer and Maria Keane, will be released in October to bridge the gap between both runs. The special annual issue will also kick off the TMNT holiday-themed variant line, with festive and fun covers by Jared Cullum across various TMNT titles, with this first one celebrating Halloween!

Before the Turtles begin their new mission in the ongoing series, they’re stepping into a multidimensional tournament! Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Battle Nexus is an action-packed five-week event kicking off in November.

Featuring beloved characters from various incarnations of the franchise – including the classic Shredder from Mirage Studios, Metalhead from the 2012 animated series, Slash returning from the dead and the IDW debut of Ninjara – this adrenaline-filled adventure is crafted by fan-favorite TMNT creatives, including writers Tom Waltz, Paul Allor, Sophie Campbell, Caleb Goellner, and Erik Burnham with art from the Escorza brothers, Ben Bishop, Vitor Cafaggi, Omar Francia, and Hendry Prasetya.

Stomping its way into comic shops this November is a crossover even bigger than the Technodrome itself: Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles X Godzilla! From the innovative minds of writer Tim Seeley and artist Fero Pe comes a jaw-dropping blend of the two pop culture franchises as it’s revealed the Foot Clan exists to stop the onslaught of kaiju attacks, but Shredder and General Krang have different plans to give mutagen a giant upgrade.

Exclusive Preview: Hydrogenese by Caza from Metal Hurlant

Humanoids‘ relaunch of the iconic Metal Hurlant has just a few days left on Kickstarter and we have another exclusive, this time a preview of “Hydrogenese” by Caza!

50 years after the debut of Metal Hurlant in France, the iconic and genre defining publication is returning to English, with a bigger and bolder iteration than ever before: as a quarterly anthology published by Humanoids. Each volume of Metal Hurlant will be a massive 272+ page literary experience.

In 1974, filmmaker, writer, mime, and poet Alejandro Jodorowsky was working in Paris on a film adaptation of Frank Herbert’s novel Dune, with the assistance of the internationally acclaimed artist Mœbius on concept art and storyboards, alongside talents such as H.R. Giger and Dan O’Bannon. At the same time, Mœbius—along with fellow rebellious bande dessinée creators Jean-Pierre Dionnet and Philippe Druillet—wanted to push the boundaries of the  comics medium to tell mature, cerebral, and often titillating stories that embraced a punk attitude. Metal Hurlant was their brainchild, a cutting edge comics anthology published under their newly-founded publishing house Les Humanoïdes Associés (Humanoids).

See what Alejandro Jodorowsky and Hans Zimmer have to say about the return of Metal Hurlant.
