There are bad dads. And then there’s Rutherford Van Chelton…

They went looking for Woody’s birth father…and they’re about to wish they didn’t! Woody’s pop has left a long trail of broken promises and broken bottles behind him across the decades. Now, Quantum and Woody – the world’s worst superhero team, currently estranged – are thousands of miles from home, riding shotgun across Australia with the human dive bar that forever changed the course of both their lives. Will the senior Van Chelton convert his long-lost son to his hard-traveling ways? And can Quantum take on an older, smarter, and slightly more inebriated version of his unpredictable partner?

Valiant’s high-energy superheroes are hitting the road for a once-in-a-lifetime family reunion as rising star Daniel Kibblesmith (The Late Show with Stephen Colbert) and eye-popping artist Kano (Daredevil) bring “KISS KISS, KLANG KLANG” south of the equator!

Kickstarter Spotlight: Black Suit of Death

black suit of death Cover by Craig Gillilandby Benjamin Kreger

Suit Up w/ Black Suit of Death

Life is hard for Edd Grimes. He grew up in abject poverty, with a father who cared more about his pet cat than his own son. In high school, he was bullied and always felt a little disgusted by the “cool kids, yet part of him craved their acceptance. Somehow he made it out alive and into college, albeit community college. He’s living on his own now and even has a girlfriend. While this should be an improvement, the story is still somehow the same.

…Except, everything is about to change!

Black Suit of Death is a satirical science fiction horror story and the latest title from indie publisher Warrior Innkeeper Creative. It is a followup to the OneShot distant prelude, The
Black Suit of Death: Ides of March. We pick up the story approximately 10,000 years after the suit and it’s creator were banished to Earth. Over the many millennia the Black Suit of Death or B.S.D. has passed from one Pilot to the next, and has inspired the many stories and myths revolving around the Angel of Death a.k.a. the Grim Reaper.

In the series, long awaited by readers of Ides of March, Co-Creators Benjamin J. Kreger and Edward Ellsworth introduce the latest Pilot of the BSD, Edd Grimes. Edd is a 20 year old Graphic Design student attending community college outside of Phoenix, Arizona. After years o struggling with depression, social anxiety, and his general bleak outlook on life, Edd has one of those days that convinces him it can only get worse. Distraught, he walks out into the desert determined to end it all… only, he discovers the Black Suit of Death instead. Now, thrust into the role of the death dealing Reaper of Souls, his fleeting thoughts of violence and harshest judgements of his fellow human have deadly consequences.

Black Suit of Death #1 will be a 24 page full color comic written by Kreger and Ellsworth with Dexter Wee (Cura Te Ipsum, Patriot1) at the helm providing Pencils and Inks. Newcomer Jeremy Kahn (Ringa Raggedy) will handle Colors.

In addition, Warrior Innkeeper Creative has hired the famed Cartoonist Fred Hembeck (you
know that guy behind a little comic called, Petey, The Adventures of Peter Parker Before He
Became Spider-Man). Hembeck will write and draw, Li’l BSD, a continuing onepage comic to be
featured at the end of each issue of Black Suit of Death!

Kreger is currently running a Kickstarter in an effort to fund the costs of art for Black Suit of
Death, and that of a small print run for Backers and Convention Goers. However, he is also
using this opportunity to shed a little more light on the sensitive subject of Veteran Suicide. A
Veteran of Iraq himself, he served two tours in the Middle East and combats Depression and
PTSD on a daily basis. Thankfully, he’s found the creative effort put into making comics to be
quite therapeutic and attributes writing, and comic creation to his improving mental health.

You can learn more about Black Suit of Death by visiting
https://www.facebook.com/BlackSuitOfDeath or www.warriorinnkeeper.com/kickstarter
The Black Suit of Death Kickstarter must reach it’s goal by end of day September 14th to be funded.

So, you must hurry!

Warrior Innkeeper Creative began in 2009 as Warrior Innkeeper Comics but made a name change in 2014 to reflect the many services it now provides to clients. The Indie Comic Publisher also offers exciting Marketing Solutions and Graphic Design services to a variety of clients including the City of Independence & MINet Fiber creating promotional comics for one and a mascot for the other. Black Suit of Death: Ides of March was the first Mature title published by Warrior Innkeeper Comics and Black Suit of Death #1 will be the first new title published with the Warrior Innkeeper Creative imprint.

Baltimore Comic-Con Announces First Appearances for 2014 Guests!

Gibbons Watchmen 12014 is going to be a huge year for the Baltimore Comic-Con. Celebrating its 15th year, the convention is moving to a 3-day show, being held the weekend of September 5-7, 2014!

In December, they officially announced their expansion to 3 days as well as their huge initial set of guests.  Not content to settle for that initial wave of excitement, they’ve kept busy through the 2013 holiday season and into January of 2014 expanding their guest list!

Hopping the pond from England, writer/artist/letterer Dave Gibbons brings a vast resume of truly ground-breaking work. From his early 2000AD work to the best-selling Watchmen with writer Alan Moore to The Secret Service with writer Mark Millar and many, many other noteworthy titles, Dave has left his indelible mark on the comics industry.  He has contributed to major and minor publishers, titles, and comic universes on both sides of the Atlantic, and his lettering style in Watchmen was the basis for the “Comic Sans” font.

Fred Hembeck‘s unique style has graced numerous publications, but he is probably noted most for his parodies at Marvel Comics, especially in the pages of Marvel Age, Fantastic Four Roast, Fred Hembeck Destroys the Marvel Universe, and Fred Hembeck Sells the Marvel Universe.  He also maintained an unhealthy focus for years on the Marvel Universe B-lister, Brother Voodoo!  In recent years, he contributed to Mars Attacks: The Human Condition from IDW and has provided covers for Garfield from BOOM! Studios.

A relative newcomer, Aaron Kuder found opportunities in doing fill-in issues during DC Comics’ The New 52 event.  A member of Ten Ton Studios, he has handled art duties on titles such as Batman, Superman, and The Avenging Spider-Man, and took over art duties in November of 2013 for Action Comics.

Originally from Bulgaria, Alex Maleev has achieved great success providing art on comics with prolific comics writer, Brian Michael Bendis.  Together, they have collaborated on noteworthy runs on titles such as Image’s Sam and Twitch, and Marvel’s New Avengers, Daredevil, Halo: Uprising, Moon Knight, Spider-Woman, and, through Marvel’s creator-owned Icon imprint, Scarlet.

John Totleben initially established a name for himself inking and painting covers for DC Comics’ Swamp Thing during its noteworthy Alan Moore/Stephen R. Bissette run of the title.  He later went on to collaborate with Moore again multiple times, pencilling and inking Eclipse Comics’ Miracleman, earning the position exclusively after receiving accolades for his work on the title, and on inks for Image Comics’ 1963.  He has received numerous industry nominations and awards, including a 2004 Inkpot Award.

This year’s previously confirmed guests for the show include: Marty Baumann (Pixar artist); Jeremy Bastian (Cursed Pirate Girl); Dave Bullock (Batman Black and White); Greg Capullo (Batman); Bernard Chang (Green Lantern Corps); Sean Chen (Amazing Spider-Man); Jimmy Cheung (Infinity); Cliff Chiang (Wonder Woman); Frank Cho (X-Men:  Battle of the Atom); Richard Clark (House of Gold & Bones); Steve Conley (Bloop); Alan Davis (Wolverine); Tommy Lee Edwards (Suicide Risk); Garth Ennis (Preacher, The Boys); David Finch (Forever Evil); Bryan JL Glass (Mice Templar); Michael Golden (The Ravagers); Cully Hamner (Animal Man); Dean Haspiel (The Fox); Adam Hughes (Before Watchmen: Dr. Manhattan); JG Jones (Green Lantern Corps, Batman Black and White); Justin Jordan (Luther Strode, Green Lantern: New Guardians); Barry Kitson (Empire); David Mack (Shadowman); Kevin Maguire (Guardians of the Galaxy); Ron Marz (Witchblade); Bob McLeod (X-Men: Gold); Tradd Moore (Deadpool Annual); Mark Morales (New Avengers); Dan Parent (Archie, Veronica, Kevin Keller); David Peterson (Mouse Guard); Eric Powell (The Goon); Joe Prado (Justice League); Brian Pulido (Lady Death); Ivan Reis (Aquaman and The Others); Budd Root (Cavewoman); Alex Saviuk (Web of Spider-Man); Andy Smith (Superman #23.1: Bizarro); John K. Snyder III (Zorro Rides Again); Allison Sohn (sketch card artist); Charles Soule (Thunderbolts); Ben Templesmith (The Memory Collectors); Peter Tomasi (Batman and Two-Face); Herb Trimpe (GI Joe: A Real American Hero); Billy Tucci (Shi); Rick Veitch (Saga of the Swamp Thing); Matt Wagner (Grendel); Mark Waid (Daredevil); Bill Willingham (Fables); Renee Witterstaetter (Joe Jusko: Maelstrom); and Thom Zahler (My Little Pony).

Mars Attacks #1 Sells Out in a Big Way!

[Mars Attacks The Holidays Cover]IDW Publishing has announced that Mars Attacks #1 has sold out of its “substantial” first printing.  The first issue is by John Layman and John McCrea. The first issue was pretty ambitious sporting 56 covers and a deluxe box set had a 57th cover.  That’s nearly 55,000 issues gone. IDW says there’s likely less than 1,000 copies of the “classic card cover” floating about.

IDW is taking the opportunity to announce Mars Attacks The Holidays. Coming out in October, this new one-shot is being created as a unique, off-the-wall take on Mars Attacks and will see Topps’ vicious Martian invaders reigning chaos upon beloved holiday icons the world over. The comic features four stories by Dean Haspiel, Fred Hembeck, Ian Boothby, and Bill Morrison, and is 48 full-color pages.

Mars Attacks #1 is a full-color, 32-page comic that is in stores now. Diamond order code: APR120315 and Mars Attacks The Holidays is a full-color, 48-page comic that will be in stores October 24, 2012.
