“ It’s not so much that Mayor Fisk is like [Former NYC Mayor] Eric Adams, it’s that Eric Adams is a comic book character,” — John Leavitt is a writer and cartoonist who works with the DSA Upper-Manhattan Bronx chapter and a published Marvel author with Strange Tales Volume One.
I’ve been involved in New York politics for over 20 years and I’m a lifelong Daredevil reader so I was thrilled to geek out about this Disney + season him.
The Man Without Fear is back in season 2 of the acclaimed Disney+ series Daredevil: Born Again! Daredevil, the protector of Hell’s Kitchen, is now the city’s most wanted target. With Wilson Fisk wielding the power of the mayor’s office, an unrelenting manhunt for costumed vigilantes has begun. Refusing to surrender, Matt Murdock retreats into the shadows and gathers allies to dismantle the Kingpin’s corrupt empire.
Celebrating the return of Daredevil: Born Again, the Daredevil 1/6 Scale Collectible Figure by Hot Toys presents the masked vigilante in a dramatic new all-black outfit.
Masterfully crafted based on the likeness of Charlie Cox in the role, the figure features a Matt Murdock headsculpt and a Daredevil cowled head. The cowled head comes with interchangeable parts, including 2 lower face plates and 2 cowls with varying levels of weathering effects.
A thrilling element for fans this season is Daredevil’s newly painted suit! To operate stealthily during the manhunt, Matt sprays a black coating over his original red suit and the classic red “DD” logo on his chest, reminiscent of his Shadowland era in the comics. As the story progresses, brutal battles cause the black coating to gradually peel off, revealing the red suit underneath. This figure brilliantly recreates his suit with meticulously applied weathering effects that reveal patches of his red suit underneath the scraped black paint. The outfit is completed with an all-black design, including forearm gauntlets, knee armor plates, a thigh billy club holster, and long boots.
Ready to deal out justice, Daredevil comes equipped with his signature weapons painted in black, including an extended billy club, a pair of short billy clubs, and a wire to connect them for use as nunchaku. Matt’s signature red-tinted sunglasses are also included.
An incredibly atmospheric, magnetic diorama base inspired by the streets of Hell’s Kitchen completes the display. The base includes details such as a sidewalk, a manhole cover engraved with the “DD” logo, and a road with rainwater accumulating in potholes.
Daredevil returns to tangle with Mayor Fisk, a villain with shocking parallels to Andrew Cuomo: the real life disgraced former Governor of NY who is now running to be Mayor of NYC! Our real election ends June 24 and New Yorkers need a better outcome than the election in the Disney+ TV Series.
I’m joined by Janos Martin, a former candidate for Manhattan District Attorney and an expert on criminal justice reform. We discuss how the show depicts the criminal justice system, the political culture of NYC and what lessons we can learn from Kingpin’s appeal to voters that can help us dissuade voters from supporting Cuomo.
I even explain Ranked Choice Voting. Rank ANYONE but Cuomo!
Fighting crime in the courtroom and on the streets, Marvel’s blind vigilante Matt Murdock is back in Daredevil: Born Again. Charlie Cox reprises his role as the Man without Fear, focusing on his duties as a lawyer while his rival Wilson Fisk pursues political ventures.
This detailed figure includes 2 hand-painted headsculpts: One featuring an expertly crafted portrait of Charlie Cox in the role and one cowled head with 2 interchangeable lower faces, providing a choice of expressions. Daredevil wears a new red and black suit with weathering effects, a utility belt, and a thigh holster for a billy club.
This dynamic figure is highly poseable with 30 points of articulation and is equipped with billy clubs styled in extended mode and nunchaku mode, allowing for a range of dramatic display options. Accessories include a damaged Daredevil cowl with a broken horn and Matt’s iconic sunglasses.

Sometimes, the staff at Graphic Policy watches more tv than we’re able to get reviewed. When that happens you’ll see a weekly feature compiling reviews of the comics, or graphic novels, we just didn’t get a chance to write a full one for.

Daredevil: Born Again S1E1 “Heaven’s Half Hour”– After a nostalgic intro featuring banter between Matt Murdock, Foggy Nelson, and Karen Page, writer/showrunner Dario Scardapane brings the Devil of Hell’s Kitchen’s world crashing down. He draws a throughline between gentrification and maybe Daredevil not fitting in this brave new world where Ben Urich’s niece is basically a TikTok reporter, Murdock goes on actual dates and attends client meetings, and of course, Wilson Fisk campaigns for the highest office in the city. Fisk and Murdock share a diner conversation scene where Vincent D’Onofrio and Charlie Cox continue to be positively electric, and the chat acts as a manifest for the upcoming season. “Heaven’s Half Hour” key weakness is its darkness and smoke shaded fight choreography in a pivotal action scene early in the episode, but I applaud some of the needle drops. Of course, Matt Murdock listens to Nick Cave in his apartment when he’s feeling sadness and guilt, and dissociating to TV on the Radio after a criminal wins an election is a big 2016/2024 mood.
Karen Page, Matt Murdock’s former lover, sets into motion a Machiavellian chain of events by trading away his secret identity for a drug fix. Now, Daredevil must find all the strength he can muster as Wilson Fisk, the Kingpin of Crime, wastes no time taking him down as low as a human can get. As he’s nursed back to health by a nun named Sister Maggie, Matt discovers a shocking secret that will change their relationship forever — but can he piece his life back together and survive a battle against the brutal super-soldier named Nuke?
