Verity‘s time at the top of the box office was short lived as Other Mommy took the top of the box office with an estimated $27.5 million. The horror film also grossed $17.7 million internationally for a worldwide debut of $45.2 million.

Verity slipped to second place with $11.5 million domestically to bring its domestic gross to $53.9 million. It doubled its total internationally over the week and has grossed $60.1 million. That puts the film at just under $114 worldwide after two weeks.

Heart of the Beast held on to third place with $7.1 million to bring its domestic gross to $49.7 million. The movie grossed $21.4 million over the week internationally to bring that total to $81.7 million. Worldwide, the movie has grossed $131.4 million.

Resident Evil slipped to fourth place from the last weekend’s second. The movie added $5.8 million to its domestic total which is now just under $136 million. Over the week, it grossed $61.2 million over the week internationally and now stands at $181.7 million. Worldwide, the movie has grossed $320.2 million.

Forgotten Island moved up one slot to fifth place with $4.5 million domestically and has now grossed $30.3 million. The movie has also grossed $19.9 million internationally for a worldwide total of $50.2 million.

In other new films, The Social Reckoning didn’t get many friend requests opening in seventh with $4 million while in 2,606 theaters and $5.5 million total so far. Internationally it grossed $3.5 million for $9 million worldwide. The Social Network opened in 2010 with $22.4 million domestically.

Avengers Endgame: Encore dropped to twelfth place after last week’s seventh place debut. The movie added $1.4 million to its domestic gross which is now $39.1 million. Internationally, it added around $9 million to bring that to $98.8 million. Worldwide, the movie has grossed $137.9 million.

Spider-Man: Brand New Day slipped to fourteenth place, with $1 million to bring its domestic gross to $956.4 million. Internationally, it added $5 million over the week and has grossed $1.556 billion for a worldwide gross of $2.513 billion.

Coyote vs. Acme grossed an estimated $500,000 over the week to bring its domestic total to $60.1 million. Over the week, it grossed $2 million internationally to bring that to $38.2 million. Worldwide, the movie has grossed $98.3 million. The movie would need to gross around $120 million for Ketchup to make a profit and it’d have had to have grossed $140 million if Warner Bros. released it.

Numbers have 35 movies grossing $79,909,272 from 35,741 theaters for an average of $2,236. That is compared to last week’s 70 movies grossing $99,411,984 from 37,993 theaters for an average of $2,616.59.

Verity takes the weekend box office while Digger isn’t dug. Avengers: Endgame passes Avatar.

Verity took the weekend box office with an estimated debut of $32.6 million domestically and $30 million internationally for a worldwide debut of $62.6 million. With a budget of just $40 million, it’s a good opening which makes it highly likely the film will turn a profit for Amazon MGM Studios.

Resident Evil slipped one spot to second place with $12.5 million. It’s just a 45.7% drop, not bad for a horror movie or “blockbuster” which tend to open strong then quickly drop. The movie has grossed $124.9 million domestically. Internationally, the movie added $27.5 million over the week and now has grossed $120.5 million. That brings the film to $245.4 million worldwide. It’s the top grossing film domestically in the franchise and currently third for worldwide gross, behind 2010’s Resident Evil: Afterlife and 2016’s Resident Evil: The Final Chapter.

Heart of the Beast held on to third place with $11 million bringing its gross to $38.4 million. Over the week, it over doubled its international gross adding $30.2 million to that total to bring it to $60.3 million. Worldwide, the movie has grossed $98.7 million.

Primetime remained in fourth place with a little over $8 million to bring it to $34.1 million domestically. Internationally, the movie has grossed $53,653. Worldwide, the movie has grossed $34.1 million worldwide.

Digger rounded out the top five with a disappointing $8 million domestically and $12 million internationally for a worldwide total of $20 million. Originally greenlit with a budget of $125 million, the budget climbed to $160 to $180 million. With a reported $100 million marketing budget, the movie would need over $300 million worldwide to be profitable. That’s highly unlikely at this point and a flop for Warner Bros. before its acquisition by Paramount Skydance.

Avengers Endgame: Encore dropped to seventh place after last week’s first place debut. The movie added $4.4 million to its domestic gross which is now $36.2 million. Internationally, it added around $29.8 million to bring that to $89.8 million. Worldwide, the movie has grossed $126 million. Including its original release, the movie has grossed $2.925 billion worldwide. It has now passed Avatar to be the top grossing movie worldwide ever. Avatar grossed $2.924 billion which includes its original release and multiple re-releases including one in 2025.

Spider-Man: Brand New Day slipped to tenth place, with $2.5 million to bring its domestic gross to $954.5 million. Internationally, it added $6 million over the week and has grossed $1.551 billion for a worldwide gross of $2.505 billion.

Coyote vs. Acme grossed an estimated $475,153 to bring its domestic total to $59.6 million. Over the week, it grossed $6.5 million internationally to bring that to $36.2 million. Worldwide, the movie has grossed $96.1 million. The movie would need to gross around $120 million for Ketchup to make a profit and it’d have had to have grossed $140 million if Warner Bros. released it.

Numbers have 70 movies grossing $99,411,984 from 37,993 theaters for an average of $2,616.59. That is compared to last week’s 71 movies grossing $124,578,204 from 36,035 theaters for an average of $3,457.15.

Avengers Endgame: Encore leads the Weekend Box Office with 4 Out of the Top 5 Being Debuts

Avengers: Endgame Encore

It’s been a bit since we’ve had three films all gross $20 million or more the same weekend. There was also an impressive four debuting films in the top five. Avengers Endgame: Encore led that pack with an estimated $26 million it also grossed $60 million internationally for an impressive worldwide gross of $86 million. For a re-release that’s very solid teasing that Avengers: Doomsday might be a massive release later this year. The original film grossed $2.799 billion. Will this run put that over the $3 billion mark? Will it take the top spot of worldwide gross of all time?

Resident Evil slipped to second place with $23.3 million domestically to lift its domestic gross to $103.5 million. Internationally, the movie grossed $44.7 million to bring that total to $93 million. Worldwide, the movie has grossed $196.5 million.

Heart of the Beast debuted in third place with $20 million domestic gross and $30.1 million international for a worldwide debut of $50.1 million.

Primetime debuted in fourth place with a domestic gross of $19.2 million. There’s no international gross reported.

Rounding out the top five was Forgotten Island which opened with $12.8 million domestic and $7.8 million international for a worldwide debut of $20.6 million.

Spider-Man: Brand New Day slipped to seventh place, it’s first weekend out of the top five, with $4.1 million to bring its domestic gross to $950.7 million. Internationally, it added $11 million over the week and has grossed $1.545 billion for a worldwide gross of $2.496 billion.

Coyote vs. Acme rounded out the top ten. It grossed an estimated $1.3 million to bring its domestic total to $57.8 million. Over the week, it grossed $4.7 million internationally to bring that to $29.7 million. Worldwide, the movie has grossed $88 million. The movie would need to gross around $120 million for Ketchup to make a profit and it’d have had to have grossed $140 million if Warner Bros. released it.

The Transformers: The Movie wrapped up its run with $4.2 million domestically and $579,850 internationally for a little over $5 million worldwide. That’s close to the original’s release back in 1986.

Numbers have 36 movies grossing $124,578,204 from 36,035 theaters for an average of $3,457.15. That is compared to last week’s 66 movies grossing $111,744,444 from 38,249 theaters for an average of $2,921.50.

Resident Evil Opens for a Franchise Best, Almost Beating its Top Domestic Gross

Movie poster for Resident Evil featuring a dark snowy road with a car and a long shadow, with the text 'FROM THE DIRECTOR OF WEAPONS AND BARBARIAN' at the top and 'RESIDENT EVIL EXCLUSIVELY IN MOVIE THEATRES SEPTEMBER 18 FILMED FOR IMAX' at the bottom.

Resident Evil has gotten a lot of positive buzz and that showed up at the weekend box office with the film opening with the best weekend its ever had. The movie grossed an estimated $60 million domestically and $48.3 million internationally for an opening weekend of $108.3 million worldwide. That’s the best opening for the film franchise and nearly beats the top domestic gross it has ever had.

The franchise is an interesting one with recent releases doing really well internationally, far better than its domestic gross. The movie had a hell of run in the international market pre-Covid with the results tanking in 2021. But, the movies also tend to have a low budget, around $30-$60 million depending on the release and have easily not just made back their budget, but also a nice profit to go along with it, hence why we’re seeing the eighth live-action film in the franchise.

The newest film has a franchise high budget of $75-$80 million, so will need around $160 million to see a profit. With a $108.3 million opening, there’s a good chance the film will reach that and then some, especially if it performs more like the 2010s releases internationally and add in the fact horror has been doing really well this year. With spooky season beginning, the film may have a good run over the next month.

In second place was Practical Magic 2 which saw a 59.5% drop from the previous week. It grossed an estimated $12.2 million to lift its domestic gross to a little over $50 million. Internationally, it grossed $10.8 million over the week to bring that total to $26.8 million. Worldwide, the movie has grossed $76.8 million. The original film in 1998 grossed $46.7 million domestically and $47.7 million internationally for a worldwide total of $94.4 million.

Spider-Man: Brand New Day slipped to third place with $6.5 million to bring its domestic gross to $944.5 million. Internationally, it added $18 million over the week and has grossed $1.534 billion for a worldwide gross of $2.479 billion. The movie has now the top grossing domestic film of all time having passed Star Wars: Episode VII – The Force Awakens‘ $936.7 million set in 2015. Worldwide, the movie sits in third place where it’s likely to stay behind the second place Avengers: Endgame‘s $2.799 billion. Sony is eyeing crossing the $1 billion domestic number, something that’s never been done before with the movie’s theatrical run extended to November 16, giving it 108 days in theaters.

The Odyssey came in fourth place dropping one spot with $4.9 million to bring its domestic total to $609.8 million. Over the week, it grossed $27.5 million to bring its international gross to $1.112 billion for a worldwide gross of $1.721 billion.

Coyote vs. Acme rounded out the top five, remaining in the spot from the previous week. It grossed an estimated $4.5 million to bring its domestic total to $54.8 million. Over the week, it grossed $7.8 million internationally to bring that to $25 million. Worldwide, the movie has grossed $79.8 million.

The Transformers: The Movie got a re-release to celebrate its 40th anniversary coming in eighth with $3.1 million and has now grossed $4.2 million with no international total reported. The original release grossed $5.8 million domestically in 1986 which means the film has officially crossed the $10 million all-time gross.

Akira, the classic anime film, added about $200,000 domestically and has now grossed $4.5 million.

Numbers have 66 movies grossing $111,744,444 from 38,249 theaters for an average of $2,921.50. That is compared to last week’s 67 movies grossing $85,990,648 from 44,054 theaters for an average of $1,952.

Practical Magic 2 knocks Spider-Man: Brand New Day Out of First Place

Promotional poster for the movie 'Practical Magic 2' featuring two women, one with dark hair and one with blonde hair, set against a dark background with candles and a house in the background. The text includes the actors' names and 'Everything you've wished for'.

Practical Magic 2 debuted in first place at the weekend box office grossing an estimated $30 million domestically and $16 million internationally for a worldwide gross of $46 million.

The original film debuted in 1998 opening with $13.1 million domestically and went on to gross $46.7 million domestically and $47.7 million internationally for a worldwide gross of $94.4 million. Warner Bros. should be happy with this sequel which doubled its domestic opening and nearly matched its entire domestic run in one weekend.

Spider-Man: Brand New Day slipped to second place grossing $8.4 million domestically and lifting that total to $935.2 million. It’s inching closer to that unprecedented $1 billion domestic mark, something never achieved. Internationally, it added $31 million to its total which is now $1.516 billion. The movie has grossed $2.451 billion worldwide. It’s the top grossing domestic film by a wide margin, $335 million. It’s also the top grossing film worldwide by about $800 million. The movie is now in second place for the all-time domestic gross (and will pass that this week) and is currently in third place for all-time worldwide gross. It’s possible the film could move into second place, though unlikely.

The Odyssey dropped to third place with $7.4 million to bring its domestic total to $600.5 million. Internationally, it grossed $41 million over the week and stands at $1.084 billion. Worldwide, the movie has grossed $1.684 billion.

Runner debuted in fourth place with $6.4 million domestically and no international return.

Coyote vs. Acme rounded out the top five with $4.1 million to bring its domestic total to $45.6 million. Internationally, the movie added $10 million over the week and has now grossed $17.2 million. Worldwide, the movie has grossed just under $65 million. The movie is being cheered as some sort of victory against Warner Bros. who shelved its released. Originally, Warner Bros. took a $30 million tax write off but eventually sold it to Ketchup Entertainment for $50 million. Warner Bros. would have needed the film to gross $140 million to make a profit. As is, they’d be seeing around a $40 million loss. Instead, they took a $20 million loss on the film. Ketchup needs it to gross about $120 million to see a profit (they spent $10 million marketing) which the film hasn’t earned and likely will need to be made up in streaming and physical/digital media sales. It’s unknown if/what Ketchup gets out of that. They also reportedly sold some international rights for $20 million, which even with that, they film is still far from profitable. In the end, Warner Bros.’ decision on paper seems to have been the right one.

In comic related movies…

Akira, the classic anime film, had a special re-release two weekends ago where it grossed $3.2 million. This past weekend, the film added $300,000 to the total which is now $4.3 million.

Star Wars: The Mandalorian and Grogu remained at $177.7 million domestically. Internationally, the movie gained a little and is at $167.8 million. Worldwide, the movie has grossed $345.5 million.

Numbers have 67 movies grossing $85,990,648 from 44,054 theaters for an average of $1,952. That is compared to last week’s 70 movies grossing $93,531,192 from 40,798 theaters for an average of $2,292.54.

Spider-Man: Brand New Day hangs on to the Top Spot at the Weekend Box Office as it fights towards $1 billion at the Domestic Box Office

Spider-Man: Brand New Day

Spider-Man: Brand New Day was again the top movie at the weekend box office grossing an estimated $18 million over the three days of the weekend and about $24 million over the extended holiday weekend. The movie has grossed $923.1 million domestically. Internationally, the movie added $44 million over the week and it has now grossed $1.485 million for a worldwide total of $2.408 billion.

Spider-Man: Brand New Day ranks second in domestic gross, just $13.6 million behind Star Wars: Episode VII – The Force Awakens. With that little gap, there’s a good chance it’ll pass it this week to take the top spot. Worldwide, the movie ranks third, though it’s unlikely to move into second place. There’s a $391 million gap between it and Avengers: Endgame. The $923.1 million domestic haul puts it in position to be the first film to cross $1 billion domestically. You better believe Sony and Marvel will go with a hard push to make that happen before its theater run is over. There’s not much competition as far as releases for a while, so we could be seeing a major milestone happening.

The Odyssey moved back into second place grossing $13 million with just a 9% drop from the previous weekend. Domestically, it stands at $589 million. Internationally, it gross $53.7 million over the week to cross the billion dollar mark and now is at $1.043 billion. Worldwide, the movie has grossed $1.632 billion.

Coyote vs. Acme slipped to third place with $11.3 million domestically which is now at $37 million. Internationally, the movie has grossed $7.2 million. There’s a lot of crowing about the film’s “success,” mainly led by those who had a grudge against Warner Bros. and its leadership for shelving the film. The film has had an interesting history, originally shelved by Warner Bros. for a tax write off of $30 million. Ketchup Entertainment picked it up for a reported $50 million. Now, here’s the mixed part. It’s the best opening for a Ketchup Entertainment film, that’s good. It’s also a massive improvement on 2024’s Looney Tunes’ The Day the Earth Blew Up which opened with $3.2 million domestically and grossed $15.5 million its entire run. That was also a Ketchup film. But, films need to make money, so using the formula of 2x budget to figure out profitability, and with the reported $10 million marketing spent on top of what was paid to Warner Bros., Coyote vs. Acme is far short of achieving that. Warner Bros. had a $70 million budget for the film and got a $30 million tax write-off. The film might make back that production budget, so Warner Bros. would have lost the marketing budget if not a bit more. For Ketchup, the total gross will likely be about what they paid plus the marketing, and with the split with theaters, that’d equate a loss for them. They’ll need to make up the cost in streaming (and who knows what that part of Ketchup’s deal with Warner Bros. is). So, as it’s looking the decision to shelve the film might have been the right decision no matter how well it’s been received (and it is getting praised by critics and average attendees). As is, it’s hard to see Ketchup making back their investment in the theater, let alone making a significant profit. While we hate to see quality films get shelved, movies are a business and it looks like Warner Bros. knew what they were doing.

By Any Means debuted in fourth place with $7.4 million over the weekend and $9.2 million over the holiday. There’s no international gross.

Insidious: Out of the Further rounded out the top five with $6.5 million domestically and it now has a total of $55.7 million. Internationally, the movie added $16.9 million over the week and the total is $83.5 million. Worldwide, the movie has grossed $139.2 million.

Akira, the classic anime film, had a special re-release this weekend where it grossed $3.2 million from its special screenings.

In comic related movies…

Supergirl has grossed $72.4 million domestically. Internationally, the movie remained at $54 million. Worldwide, the movie has grossed $126.4 million.

Star Wars: The Mandalorian and Grogu remained at $177.7 million domestically. Internationally, the movie is at $167.7 million. Worldwide, the movie has grossed $345.4 million.

Bleach: Thousand-Year Blood War – The Calamity has grossed $4.3 million domestically. Internationally, the movie has grossed $763,798 which makes a little over $5 million worldwide.

Numbers have 70 movies grossing $93,531,192 from 40,798 theaters for an average of $2,292.54. That is compared to last week’s 69 movies grossing $102,201,265 from 38,900 theaters for an average of $2,627.28.

Spider-Man: Brand New Day Continues to Hold the Top Spot at the Weekend Box Office

Spider-Man: Brand New Day

Five weeks in a row, Spider-Man: Brand New Day has been the top grossing film at the domestic box office. The movie added an estimated $22.5 million to its domestic total to bring that to $884.8 million after five weeks. Internationally, it added $76 million to its total over the week and that gross is now $1.441 billion. Worldwide, the movie has grossed $2.333 billion. The movie is the top grossing film of the year domestically and worldwide and currently ranks second domestically all time and fourth worldwide all time. It’ll easily move into third place (likely today) for the worldwide record. While it’s unlikely the movie will be the top grossing film worldwide when its run is over, there’s still a chance it becomes the first film ever to gross $1 billion domestically before its run is over.

Coyote vs. Acme second in third place with $15.9 million over the weekend for a bit mix of a debut. The film has had an interesting history, originally shelved by Warner Bros. for a tax write off. It was also a Ketchup film. So, as it’s looking the decision to shelve the film might have been the right decision no matter how well it’s been received (and it is getting praised by critics and average attendees). As is, it’s hard to see Ketchup making back their investment in the theater, let alone making a profit. While we hate to see quality films get shelved, movies are a business and it looks like they knew what they were doing.

The Odyssey remained in third place. It added $14.4 million to its domestic total which is now $563.8 million. Over the week, it grossed $81. 6 million internationally and that total stands at $988.8 million. The movie is likely to cross the billion dollar mark internationally at some point this week.

The Dog Stars opened in fourth place with $8 million domestically and $11.3 million internationally for a worldwide debut of $19.3 million. With a budget somewhere between $70 and $110 million, it’s hard to not see this as another flop for Walt Disney this year.

Rounding out the top five was Insidious: Out of the Further which debuted in second place the previous weekend. The movie grossed $7.3 million to bring its domestic total to $40.8 million. Internationally, it grossed $31.6 million over the week and now has grossed $66.6 million for $110.2 million worldwide. With a reported budget of $18 million, it’s another successfully release for the franchise which will sure to see more releases.

In comic related movies…

Supergirl has grossed $72.4 million domestically. Internationally, the movie remained at $54 million. Worldwide, the movie has grossed $126.4 million.

Star Wars: The Mandalorian and Grogu remained at $177.7 million domestically. Internationally, the movie is at $168.1 million. Worldwide, the movie has grossed $345.8 million, an increase of about $100,000 over the week.

Bleach: Thousand-Year Blood War – The Calamity has grossed $4.3 million domestically. Internationally, the movie has grossed $763,798 which makes a little over $5 million worldwide.

Numbers have 69 movies grossing $102,201,265 from 38,900 theaters for an average of $2,627.28. That is compared to last week’s 66 movies grossing $131,763,813 from 38,157 theaters for an average of $3,453.20.
