Munchkin Comes to Comics with a BOOM!

Pull on your Boots of Butt-Kicking and rev up that Chainsaw of Bloody Dismemberment because award-winning publisher BOOM! Studios and Steve Jackson Games are delighted to announce an ongoing Munchkin comic book series coming this Fall. The Munchkin series will be based on the worldwide best-selling card game where players travel through the dungeon and kill everything in sight in order to gain the best (and weirdest) weapons and highest levels. It’s a hilarious, fantasy role-playing game-inspired spoof that brings friends together…until you backstab them for their treasure. The partnership between BOOM! Studios and Steve Jackson Games was initiated and brokered by Surge Licensing.

With millions of Munchkin games and accessories sold and tens of millions of monsters slain, Munchkin captures the essence of the dungeon experience…with none of that stupid roleplaying stuff. You and your friends compete to kill monsters and grab magic items. And what magic items! Don the Horny Helmet and the Boots of Butt-Kicking. Wield the Staff of Napalm…or maybe the Chainsaw of Bloody Dismemberment. Start by slaughtering the Potted Plant and the Drooling Slime, and work your way up to the Plutonium Dragon…

Fast and silly, Munchkin can reduce any roleplaying group to hysteria. And, while they’re laughing, you can steal their stuff. The Munchkin card game debuted in 2001 and has since become a worldwide phenomenon. There are now 15 different stand-alone Munchkin card games (all of which can be combined) along with over 20 expansions, plus miniatures, shirts, and much more.

Munchkin #1 will arrive in comic shops this Fall and we now have a comic that goes to the top of our anticipation list.

Marketing Monday: Who is the Top Dog on Facebook?

It’s Monday which means a new Marketing Monday and checking out how the various Facebook fanpages have grown or shrunk over the past week.

Overall, the pages continued to grow, this week gaining 216,031 individuals total, a 0.81% increase. That’s back down to normal levels, compared to last week’s increase due to Wizard’s consolidating its fanpages into one page to rule them all.

There was some slight movement from the previous week. I’ve added arrows next to what has increased in ranking. Hopefully it makes sense.

Alien Legion: Uncivil War Trailer

The first Alien Legion story in 15 years! Alien Legion: Uncivil War will be released June 25 by Chuck Dixon, Larry Stroman, and Carl Potts.

In a galaxy savaged by strife, torn by civil war, boiling with spilt blood, Alien Legion is a cosmic military force doing its damnedest to keep the peace by being always ready for war.

At the tip of the Legion’s multi-species spear is Force Nomad – the worst of the worst fashioned on the white-hot forge of battle into the best of the best. Now the squad’s grizzled veterans are on what should be a boring milk run; shepherding refugees fleeing a civil war ripping apart their system. Could be a good chance to to toughen the newbies of Nomad into soldiers… until straight-up peacekeeping descends into full-scale war!

Kickstarter Spotlight: The Adventures of Aero-Girl: A Girl and Her Gorilla

DeWayne Feenstra is heading into the final day and a half for his Kickstarter campaign to print The Adventures of Aero-Girl: A Girl and Her Gorilla.

The story of Jacqueline MacKenzie, aka Aero-Girl, continues! After a tragic battle with the villainous Dr.Chimera, the Mackenzie family and the city of Foxbay struggle with their loss.

On top of the new issue, the Kickstarter has exclusive backup stories from Mario Gonzalez, and Cesar Vegara.

Having read the first issue, I fully can get behind the second issue and know Feenstra will deliver as promised. As of this post, he’s about $700 away from his goal, and you can get digital copies of the first two issues for just $5 (a solid deal).

In a hope to get the project over the top, DeWayne has also promised to rent a gorilla suit for San Diego Comic Con and will wear it for at least 2 of the 4 days, including snapping photos and video of  his adventure.

The hours are ticking away, so chip in what you can!

Edge of Tomorrow, Days of Future Past, Spider-Man & Cap’s Weekend Box Office

edge of tomorrowThere were some high profile sequels debuting at the box office this past weekend, so it’s not a surprise they topped the box office. But, there were still quite a few “comic” movies in the theaters.

Edge of Tomorrow, based on the book All You Need is Kill (which is also a graphic novel) dropped 43.8% from it’s debut week. It earned $16.2 million, and so far has earned $56.6 million domestically. Overseas the film has earned $237 million. The film came in fourth for the week.

X-Men: Days of Future Past is in its fourth week, and came in sixth place. The film earned $9.5 million had has earned a total of $205.9 million domestically and $455.8 overseas. It’s now the top earning moving of the summer so far. Domestically it ranks third for “X” films, and fourth adjusted for inflation, though has a good chance of moving up some spots.

The Amazing Spider-Man 2 is in its seventh week and is now in 12th place domestically. It has earned a total $198.4 million domestically. The total is disappointing compared to previous Spidey films.

Captain America: The Winter Soldier is close to being the top movie domestically of 2014. The Lego Movie currently has the top spot. Globally, Cap is in the lead with Spidey about $10 million behind. In fact Cap, Spidey, and DOFP make up the top three films so far in 2014 globally.
