The Devil That Wears My Face #6

The Curia is broken, as Legion’s corruption floods the streets of Rome. While the Vatican burns, Father Vieri must make his final stand against the demon that wears his face. Yet with his greatest weapon proven powerless against the Devil, can Vieri and Maria find another way to reclaim his body? Or will the horrifying secrets of Vieri’s past turn out to be his undoing? All that is certain is that Legion’s depravity has finally been unleashed… and it will take more than a priest to banish this terrifying demon back to Hell. The Devil That Wears My Face #6 wraps up the series with an action packed finale full of horror.

Written by David Pepose, The Devil That Wears My Face #6 ends what has been a fun series that mixes the campy film Face/Off with the classic horror film The Exorcist. Up to this point, the comic has fallen a bit more into the campy side of Face/Off but with this finale, it’s all horror as Legion unleashes death and destruction and piles up the bodies.

Pepose wraps things up nicely with some reveals and a battle which feels somewhat of what is expected but at the same time delivers exactly what you’d want as a reader.

Part of that is due to the art of Alex Cormack which delivers an almost glee in the horrors on the page. The bodies are piled up and rats plentiful as a small amount of Legion’s destruction is shown. Cormack also ups the corruption a bit as individuals have fallen more under Legion’s control and act on his behalf. It all comes together for a look that’s firmly in the horror genre and just enough to disturb. Justin Birch’s lettering is the icing in the cake, delivering Legion’s dialogue with an added touch.

The Devil That Wears My Face #6 is a solid finale to a series that has delivered with every issue. Pepose, Cormack, and Birch have all embraced the crazy concept and the end result is a wild ride that leaves us wanting more.
