Review: Vampblade #7
Katie Carva lives in Detroit, a tough town… it’s even tougher when you moonlight as Vampblade and hunt invisible demonic space parasites! But the blades need to feed, so it’s off to the rough side of town for some late night action.
Vampblade is always ready to break the fourth wall in some random, frequently hilarious way. Writer Jason Martin manages to continue that with a focus on gaming puns. It even goes so far as to change her armor some into a character that made the original X-Box succeed. Given how it ends, I’m curious to see how the series continues from here.
Despite taking almost entirely in a sewer system artist Winston Young makes the environment oddly bright. It is hard to tell if somehow the TSD creatures and her blades somehow cast light when they are used. There is clear evidence that the story and art are evolving in unison as things get more complex.
