The Patty Cakes brownie empire is up for grabs as baking criminals Poppy and Cassia take on their competitor, Saffron. As detectives Ginger and Anise get closer to uncovering the truth, Poppy’s addiction to her and Cassia’s own brownies may just lead to their own downfall as well! Writer James F. Wright has created “Betty and Veronica” and Heathers meets Breaking Bad. The story takes place in a 1960s girls’ junior high. There’s plenty of school-related drama but Wright adds in a pinch more than you would expect with tasteful results.

Artist Jackie Crofts and colorist/letterer Josh Eckert have a distinct art style. Sharp lines make up their character designs, which really fit the retro world of Nutmeg.
