Review: Batman #47
While Jim Gordon is in the fight of his life against Mr. Bloom, Bruce Wayne discovers a shocking secret about his past that will change everything in Gotham City!
We’re barreling towards the fiftieth issue, which I’m sure will be something huge, and it seems we might be getting an idea of what that is with this issue which is two stories.
First, it’s Gordon vs Mecha Batman and Bloom! The battle is pretty solid and I’m really enjoying Gordon as Batman. He’s not polished and much more brute force than Wayne’s finesse version.
This battle has some nice metaphors too with Gordon talking about a regular poker game. It works well and gets you to think more about what’s going on. Then there’s a solid twist about Bloom and that’s best to find out on your own, much like the second part of the issue I don’t want to ruin.
That second part involves a conversation between Duke and Bruce as Duke attempts to help Bruce remember who he was. We know Bruce will eventually return as Batman, but the fun and entertainment is how that will happen and this is a key issue.
But, the biggest thing is that final page which reveals the return of…. think I’m going to tell you? We’re not the type of site that spoils things.
This is an awesome issue with a huge payoff at the end. It feels like we’re building a whole new legend in many ways, and this issue is a key one.
