DC Comics Provides a First Look at The Movement

Back in February, DC Comics announced the launch of the new ongoing monthly and politically charged series, The Movement. Hitting stores next month, The Movement #1 comes to you from the creative team of writer Gail Simone and artist Freddie Williams II.

Talking to Comic Vine, Simone said:

The fun of something like The Movement is that it’s a logical extension of how citizens who aren’t media giant journalists, Gotham billionaires, or mythical princesses view the way power works in the DCU. How does someone feel when the world is full of superheroes, but all the problems of the world still exist?

In another interview she said:

I don’t think the book is about liberal vs. conservative. It’s about values that comics have always been about, the struggle against injustice on behalf of the little guy, the powerless and innocent. That’s pretty bi-partisan.

As for what characters will be appearing in the series? Simone says it’s “mostly new characters,” but there’s some with ties in the DCU. We do know of two characters appearing, Katharsis, the brutal avenger from Knightfall arc in Batgirl, and Tremor, “a wonderful badass character” who appeared in the pre-New 52 Secret Six.
