Green Lantern Movie PosterGreen Lantern couldn’t stay up in the skies during it’s second week in the theater as it dropped to third place behind two movie debuts.  The DC comic book movie raked in an additional $18.4 million over the weekend.  That’s a drop of nearly 66%.  Cars 2 came in first while Bad Teacher came in second.

Green Lantern has earned a total of $89.3 million which doesn’t come close to it’s budget that ran somewhere between $200 and $300 million.  That second week drop off was greater than X-Men: First Class which dropped 56% and Thor which dropped 47%.  The movie also dropped 60% in the U.K.

In it’s fourth week, X-Men: First Class fell 44.7% and earned an estimated $6.6 million.  This brings it’s domestic total to $132.8 million. Worldwide that’s just 41.9% of the film’s total, which is nearing break even territory ($317 million versus a cost of $160 million).
