Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles Dice Masters: Foot Ninja and Fugitoid

TMNT Dice Masters Foot Ninja FuitoidWith the next Dice Masters set from Wizkids, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles Dice Masters, out next week, I’m going over individual cards to give my thoughts on the various characters and cards within.

We’ve looked at Baxter Stockman and Mousers and up next are the villains the Foot Ninja and Fugitoud.

Foot Ninja

Shredder’s Army (cost 2) – Swarm

Ninja Syndicate (cost 3) – Ally, Foot Ninja get +1A and +1D for each other Sidekick in the field zone

Robotic Ninja Warriors (cost 3) – Ally, while Foot Ninja is active, your other Sidekick dice get +1A when blocking (doesn’t give itself this).

Thoughts: With a die that’s 0 cost with 1A 1D at level 1, 0 cost with 2A and 1D at level 2, and 1 cost with 2A and 2D at level 3, the Foot Ninja is a character and die I’m intrigued by. With swam decks popular I can see Ninja Syndicate and Shredder’s Army finding their way into a lot of decks out there. The cost 2 swam is a bit more than a Kobold, but the stats do get better with level 2 adding a bit and the Ninja Syndicate could work well in a Bard team. I can see both of these cards easily making their way into regular play. The cost 3 Robotic Ninja Warriors isn’t one I’d necessarily like as I think you’ll potentially get more out of Ninja Syndicate with its “for each Sidekick” wording. 3 other Sidekick and you’re looking at a die with 4A 4D minimum at 0 cost or 5A 5D for a cost of 1.

Fugitoid

Professor Honeycutt (cost 3) – Nothing special

Neutrino Scientist (cost 4) – While Fugitoid is active, other Villain and Turtle character dice can’t attack unless their owner pays 1 to ignore this effect until end of turn

High Tech Body (cost 4) – While Fugitoid is active other Villain and Turtle character dice get -1A

Thoughts: Fugitoid is the character I think will find moderate play in constructed. While the character could be interesting if you see a lot of villains played in your area, or if you’re just playing from the TMNT set, this isn’t one I can see as a must have card that’s one you build a deck around or must have. At it’s lowest level the die will cost 1 to field with 3A and 1D, level 2 is 1 cost with 4A and 2D, and level 3 is 1 cost with 5A 3D. The low cost of 3 is an interesting character to use with those stats and gets out a decent attack relatively quickly, but as a whole I think there’s better options that are cheaper and more flexible.

Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles Dice Masters: Baxter Stockman and Mousers

TMNT DIce Masters Baxter Stockman MousersWith the next Dice Masters set from Wizkids, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles Dice Masters, out next week, I’m going over individual cards to give my thoughts on the various characters and cards within.

Up first, we’re starting with the villains, Baxter Stockman and Mousers!

Though there’s been many versions of Baxter Stockman, the thing that’s important to know is that he’s the creator of the Mousers, the robot eating machines created to destroy rats and have become a regular nuisance for the Turtles and Splinter.

And with their history, it felt right to lump these two characters together, especially since they impact each other.

Baxter Stockman

Evil Scientist (cost 4) – When fielded you get to move all Mousers dice from your Used Pile to Prep Area.

Mutagenic Researcher (cost 5) – While he’s active, all Mousers dice gets +2A and are free to field.

Fly Guy (cost 5) – When fielded, you may purchase a Mousers die for 1 and immediately roll it.

Thoughts: Lets start with the die. At level 1 it’s 0 cost to field and 2A 3D and level 3 it’s 1 cost for 4A 5D. That’s solid stats for really cheap fielding. But, the draw back is the cost of 4 and 5 for the character. To be able to get 5 energy might not be the easiest with just this set with lacking access to popular ways to purchase quickly. So, you’ll have to use Action Dice to get this character out if you’re just using this set. Otherwise, the character is solid for his dice and combination with Mousers who become a great buy with him.

For me, which version to choose depends on what type of team and style you’re playing. Being able to move Mousers from the Used area to Prep area could be great with a Torch pinging team. Then again, to be able to field them for free and +2A could be great with a Bard team too.

It really comes down, this is a character to use if you’re also using Mousers. Though I like the cost of the die itself, the combo is what makes him stand out.

Mousers

Spare Parts (cost 2) – Mousers get +1A and +1D while another player has an active character with a “When fielded” ability

Rat Eradicator (cost 3) – When Mousers block or are blocked by a character with a “When fielded” ability, roll that die. If it’s energy, move it to the Prep Area, otherwise leave it on the rolled face.

Metal Teeth (cost 3) – When fielded, KO another target character die with a “When fielded” ability unless its owner pays 2 life.

Thoughts: Mousers are a beefed up Sidekick in some ways. At level 1 it’s 0 cost with 2A and 2D. At level 3, it’s 3A and 3D for 1 cost. That’s not too bad, and depending on the Baxter Stockman chosen, the cost may not matter.

Out of the three, I like the ability to KO a character with a “When fielded” ability and out of the three, that’s the one I plan on playing with for a bit. Rat Eradicator seems like it’d be interesting, but it all depends if you see a lot of people attacking with characters featuring “When fielded.” The 2 cost Spare Parts potentially gives you a 6A 3D character when paired with Baxter Stockman: Mutagenic Researcher. I think we’ll see that combination early on when the set is released.

Marvel HeroClix: Civil War Storyline OP!

A Civil War breaks out in Marvel Heroclix this June! Whose side are you on?

The Superhuman Registration Act has divided the heroes (and villains) of the Marvel Universe— whose side will you be on when you face off against your friends and former allies in Marvel HeroClix: Civil War?

Marvel HeroClix: Civil War is a four-month Storyline Organized Play event series that will both divide and unite HeroClix players around the world as they choose to fight alongside Iron Man and other Pro-Registration heroes or alongside Captain American and his band of Anti-Registration vigilantes.

You can find out more at the Wizkids’ website.

Marvel Heroclix: Civil War booster packs feature five figures, 2 Pro-Registration (on red Heroclix bases), 2 Ant-Registration (on blue Heroclix bases), and 1 Neutral figure (on the standard black bases). There is also a support pack which contains 1 of 6 limited edition figures, two double-sided maps, and eight “Bounty” cards.

At the end of the event, players will draft their prizes based on their standing.

The Bounty Cards are to be distributed one random to each player.

  • Pro-Registration players should receive a Pro-Registration Bounty Card (Red Cards);
  • Anti-Registration players should receive an Anti-Registration Bounty Card (Blue Cards).

A Victory for Our Side— If a player KOs the character shown on their Bounty Card, each player of their faction [Pro-Registration/Anti-Registration] in the tournament may heal a friendly character 1 click at the beginning of that player’s next turn.

Players compete to draft figures used in their Battle Royale game (for Months 1-3)

Additionally, players will compete to try and win/draft a Marvel HeroClix: Civil War Prize Pack which contains one (1) of six (6) different Limited Edition figures— packaged randomly.

The Grand Prize for this Storyline Organized Play series is a set of 8 exclusive Civil War Prizes for players to snake draft. At the end of Month 4, the total of all players Tournament Points (TPs) are totaled to determine the draft order.

Squirrel Girl Kicks Butts, Eats Nuts in Dice Masters

The next Wizkids‘ Marvel Dice Masters set is Civil War and as with each release the set’s promotional card has been revealed, Squirrel Girls: Kick Butts, Eat Nuts.

The card is a cheap cost 3 character die that is equally cheap to field. The card allows you to put a token on it at the end of your turn, and when you use a Global Ability you can take a token off and put out a Squirrel token, a 1A, 1D character into the field zone.

An absolutely amazing card that’s a must get and I’m sure will become a regular in tournament (and hell most) play.

Marvel Dice Masters: Civil War releases this May.

DC Bombshells Come to Wizkids’ Dice Masters

BombshellsMonthlyOP-E1Female super heroines join the fight, front and center, in DC Comics Dice Masters: DC Bombshells.  Lois Lane, Stargirl, Mera and other leading ladies of the DC Comics universe are an all-new, all-female special force taking on the Nazis in World War II, while facing the cultural challenges of women in society.

Wizkids has announced the popular DC Comics characters are coming to Dice Masters in an organized play event. Organized play events are held by participating stores and by playing in them you can win these Dice Masters cards.

You have a chance to win Mera: Queen of Atlantis (the participation prize card everyone gets), Stargirl: DC Bomshell (one of the two limited edition prize cards), and Lois Lane: DC Bombshell (the other limited edition prize card).

Mera: Queen of Atlantis is new art for the card that debuted in War of Light. Stargirl: DC Bombshell and Lois Lane: DC Bombshell are two new cards though. Stargirl uses the die from the DC Comics Dice Masters: Justice League set while Lois Lane uses the DC Comics Dice Masters: World’s Finest die.

Lois Lane is an “Ally” and while she’s active, Superman dice you control gain Overcrush. She costs 4 to purchase. Stargirl, while the full text is covered, looks like when you field a character with the same affiliation of Stargirl you can spin one die up 1 Level. The cost to purchase her is unknown.

Show your support of their patriotic propaganda in the DC Comics Dice Masters: DC Bombshells Organized Play events. Check out if a store is participating in your area.

Marvel Dice Masters: Marvel Knights OP

Wizkids‘ next organized play event for their popular Dice Masters game features characters from the darker side of Marvel Comics. Marvel Dice Masters: Marvel Knights OP allows players to participate at local events help by their local game store and where they can win cards for Black Widow, Daredevil, and the Punisher.

Check with your local store to see if they’re participating so you can try to win the below!

Marvel Dice Masters Marvel Knights OP Black WidowBlack Widow: Stinger

Black Widow is a popular character and card in the Dice Masters game, especially her Avengers vs X-Men “Tsarina” die and card.

Here, Black Widow is the participation card using the die from the Marvel Dice Masters: Amazing Spider-Man set. It’s an alternate art card featuring cover art from Black Widow (2014) #13.

The “Stinger” version of the card is the second best version currently of the character as a cheap 2 cost shield that also features Aftershock. Aftershock allows you to deal 1 damage to a target character die or player when Black Widow is KO’d. That opens up some cool options for players especially with so many using KO to trigger various affects in the games.

As a participation prize, this is a solid card with some cool artwork.

Marvel Dice Masters Marvel Knights OP DaredevilDaredevil: Marvel Knight

One of the two prize cards in the set, this one is pretty cool for the art, the text and the fact it creates a new affiliation in the game.

The first thing that stands out to me is that you’re able to use the die from both Marvel Dice Masters: Amazing Spider-Man and Marvel Dice Masters: Age of Ultron. Both sets feature Daredevil and the stats for the dice for each set is the same. The brown coloring for the card makes me believe that the Marvel Dice Masters: Amazing Spider-Man die is the one you’re supposed to be using.

The die also is one of two in this set with the affiliation “MK” for Marvel Knights, the other being the Punisher also in the set. There aren’t others so far with this affiliation, but expect it down the road, especially due to the popularity of Marvel’s Netflix shows.

The card to me feels like a Sidekick killer, where you’d get it out early and with its ability you’d be able to deal damage and possibly take none. The 3 purchase cost and cheap fielding cost makes it an interesting addition to a swarm team.

Marvel Dice Masters Marvel Knights OP The PunisherPunisher: Marvel Knight

The other prize for this organized play event is the return of the Punisher. We haven’t seen this character since the Marvel Dice Masters: Avengers vs X-Men set, the first to ever been released. So, for those who started playing after or don’t have access to that set, this card is a bit less useful unlike the above two which use dice from more recent sets.

This card has the “MK” affiliation like Daredevil above and with a cost of 6 to purchase, it’s a bit pricey. But, for that price you get some solid defensive/offensive abilities. The card allows you to deal damage to your opponent of an equal amount you take due to an opposing “when fielded” ability. That’s a solid ability especially with Green Goblin “Gobby” still being a popular card and die to use in tournaments.

So, the use of this one is pretty straight forward, plop him in the field and smile as your deterrent causes havoc.
