Disney and WEBTOON Team for a New Digital Comics Platform

Webtoon

In a sort of surprise, Disney and WEBTOON have entered into a “non-binding term sheet” to develop a new digital comics platform that will feature current comic book runs and include decades of past comics from across Disney’s portfolio including Marvel, Star Wars, 20th Century Studios and more.

Disney also has moved to acquire a 2% equity interest in WEBTOON Entertainment. The proposed equity investment and the commercial collaboration are subject to the parties entering into definitive agreements on mutually agreeable terms and customary closing conditions.

More than 35,000 comics from Marvel, Star Wars, Disney, Pixar and 20th Century Studios will be available in a single digital comics service with one convenient subscription, adding more stories than ever before in one location. As an expansion upon Marvel Unlimited, Marvel’s current digital comics subscription service, the new platform which will be built and operated by WEBTOON Entertainment, will provide decades of iconic comics for current Marvel Unlimited subscribers and bring in even more fans to experience storytelling from across the Disney portfolio along with a selection of WEBTOON Original stories. The new platform will include a mix of vertical and traditional formats for archived comics, current comic book runs and original stories.

As part of the Disney+ Perks program, Disney+ subscribers who want to further explore the stories behind some of their favorite franchises will be able to access a curated selection of comic titles in the new app at no additional charge.

WEBTOON Entertainment and Disney has previously announced a multi-year collaboration featuring nearly 100 reformatted classics and all-new original series tailored for WEBTOON’s vertical-scroll format.

The new digital comics platform will target a wide distribution. Select comics will also be localized for WEBTOON’S Korean and Japanese platforms.

Not Your Typical Reincarnation Story Leaps from Digital to Print

Ize Press has announced the physical release of Not Your Typical Reincarnation Story—the latest addition to its lineup of popular ‘reincarnated as the doomed villain’ stories. Our mistreated protagonist reincarnates as Edith, the villain from her favorite novel, and she is determined to change her life around and prove not all villains are evil. However, no matter how hard she tries to change the plot, it seems like story is staying on script–as if there’s somebody interfering. Not Your Typical Reincarnation Story, Vol. 1 will make its way from digital screens to the printed page in February 2026.

Not Your Typical Reincarnation Story

Art by A-jin, Adapted by DOYOSAY, Original Story by Lemon Frog

When Suna Choi wakes up in the body of the villainess Edith Rigelhof, she’s confident that she’s got this! After all, she knows how this is typically supposed to go: A girl dies, reincarnates into a romance novel as the villainess, uses her wits and foreknowledge to avoid death, and lives happily ever after (and maybe even wins over a hot guy or two). Except…saying that things aren’t working out as she’d hoped would be putting it lightly. Killian Rudwick, her new husband and the second male lead, seems hellbent on finding every reason under the sun to despise her, and any attempt to fix her reputation appears to be futile. It’s almost as if some higher power is refusing to let her change Edith’s place in the narrative—but with her life on the line, she must find a way to break the story’s hold before it’s too late!

Not Your Typical Reincarnation Story has been serialized digitally on WEBTOON since 2023, quickly amassing a devoted global fanbase with over 120 million views as of July 2025. The main story is complete in two seasons totaling 100 episodes, with ongoing side stories being released. Not Your Typical Reincarnation Story is perfect for reincarnation romantasy readers, lovers of political marriages blossoming into more, enemies-to-lovers enthusiasts, and for fans of titles such as Villains Are Destined to Die and Not-Sew-Wicked Stepmom. The English print edition of Not Your Typical Reincarnation Story will be available through major book retailers, including Barnes & Noble, Books-A-Million, Amazon, and local independent bookstores. Readers can also purchase their copy direct from the Ize Press webstore. Pre-orders will open before the end of the month.

SDCC 2025: Omniscient Reader: The Prophecy is revealed with a first look

At San Diego Comic-Con 2025, WEBTOON Entertainment debuted the opening sequence of the highly anticipated live-action film Omniscient Reader: The Prophecy to a packed crowd following a panel celebrating the film adaptation’s August 1st U.S. premiere. In the first five minutes of the film, Dokja explains how he became obsessed with and the sole reader of Three Ways to Survive in a Ruined World…an apocalyptic webnovel that he will soon find himself living in.

Based on the WEBTOON sensation by creators SingNSong, the webcomic has over 2.2 billion global views, and the film adaptation hitting US theaters is the first of a five-film saga starring Lee Min-hoAhn Hyo-seop and BLACKPINK’s Jisoo.

During the panel, Screen Rant Deputy Editor Megan Peters discussed with Ryan Lee, WEBTOON’s Head of Content; Vi Ma, leading North American marketing efforts on the film with 213 Pictures; and Anime By the Numbers Editor Miles Atherton exactly why this incredible story that explores the relationship between reality and fiction, good and evil and a story’s characters and its readers, has captivated the world.
