TEST follows Aleph Null, An orphan, a human guinea pig undergoing medical tests for cash, a bodyhacker, a hardcore future junkie, and a corporate asset. But now, Aleph is on the run from their old life, in search of a mythical, Midwestern town named Laurelwood—where they’re test-marketing the future with tech that can’t possibly exist yet, and won’t for decades.

TEST#1 will receive a Vault Vintage variant cover that pays homage to Transmetropolitan, the immensely influential Vertigo series by Warren Ellis and Darick Robertson. The Vault Vintage variant cover is drawn and designed by Nathan Gooden and Tim Daniel.

TEST #1 hits store shelves on June 26th, 2019. The official synopsis is below:

Aleph Null is a lot of things: An orphan, a human guinea pig undergoing medical tests for cash, a bodyhacker, a hardcore future junkie, and a corporate asset. But now, Aleph is on the run from their old life, in search of a mythical, Midwestern town named Laurelwood—where they’re test-marketing the future with tech that can’t possibly exist yet, and won’t for decades.

From Eisner-nominated Chris Sebela (Crowded, High Crimes) and Jen Hickman (Moth & Whisper) comes the story of a town out of time, full of mysteries, and populated by guinea pigs in need of liberation by the misfit least likely to be their savior.

Friendo #1 Has Sold Out, Gets a New Vault Vintage Cover for 2nd Printing

Vault Comics has announced that Friendo #1 has sold out at the distributor. The issue will receive a second printing that features a brand new Vault Vintage cover by artist Nathan Gooden and designer Tim Daniel.

Vault Vintage is a line of alternate covers that celebrate the artistic achievements of both modern and legendary professionals of the comic book industry. For Friendo #1’s second printing, Nathan Gooden and Tim Daniel pay tribute to Frank Miller and Klaus Janson’s jarring Daredevil issue 184 cover.

Frank Miller changed the game when he embarked upon his Daredevil run in May, 1979. Working closely with inker Klaus Janson, Miller’s deep blacks and evocative line work darkened the series and raised the stakes for Matthew Murdock. The violence in Hell’s Kitchen became all too real and far too costly.

Friendo #1 was originally published on September 26, 2018. Created by writer Alex Paknadel and artist Martin Simmonds with colors by Dee Cunniffe and letters by Taylor Esposito.

Deep Roots #1 Sells Out, Gets New Vault Vintage Cover for 2nd Print

Vault Comics has unveiled the brand new cover for the second printing of Deep Roots #1, illustrated by Nathan Gooden and designed by Tim Daniel.

The Deep Roots #1 second printing is part of Vault Vintage, Vault Comics’ line of covers that celebrate the artistic achievements of both modern and legendary professionals of the comic book industry. For Deep Roots #1, artist Nathan Gooden and designer Tim Daniel pay homage to DC Comics’ Swamp Thing #7, the iconic cover illustration by Bernie Wrightson, along with designer Gaspar Saladino’s indelible logo.

Deep Roots #1 was originally published on April 25, 2018 and was greeted by critical acclaim and a same-day sellout. The second printing of Deep Roots #1 hits store shelves on June 6th, 2018. Further, the release date for the second issue of Deep Roots will now also be on June 6th, 2018, so both issues hit stands on the same day. Retailers can order the second printing of Deep Roots #1 using Diamond Order Code MAR188652.

Deep Roots was co-created by writer Dan Watters and artist Val Rodrigues, with colors by Triona Farrell and letters by Aditya Bidikar.

Wasted Space #1 Gets Two Second Printing Covers

Vault Comics has unveiled two brand new covers for the second printing of Wasted Space #1. The first cover is illustrated by Vault Comics’ Art Director, Nathan Gooden, and the second by heavyweight artist Darick Robertson. Both covers are designed by Tim Daniel.

Nathan Gooden’s cover references Shuster and Eisenberg’s classic Action Comics No. 1 cover, which was released 80 years to the day before Wasted Space #1. Darick Robertson’s cover is a loving parody of George Pérez’s unforgettable Crisis on Infinite Earths cover. The back covers of both Wasted Space #1 2nd prints will feature a historical note about the covers referenced.

The Robertson cover is a 1:2 variant tied with the Gooden cover. Every 2 copies ordered of the Gooden cover will enable retailers to order one copy of the Robertson cover. The #1 second print covers both hit shelves the same day as the second issue of Wasted Space, May 30th, 2018. Retailers can look at Previews Plus for more information.

The series is written by Michael Moreci, illustrated by Hayden Sherman, colored by Jason Wordie, and lettered by Jim Campbell.

Killbox vs. Killbox (Updated)

It’s a case of two comics from two publishers with the same name. Last week American Gothic Press announced that they’d be publishing a new comic series Killbox from creators Tom Riordan and Nathan Gooden. In the announcement Riordan says the idea for the series has been in his mind since about 2000.

The problem?

Antarctic Press already has a series called Killbox by Brian Denham which has been published since 2002. The publisher Tweeted asking American Gothic Press and Riordan to change their title’s name.

Here’s the description of Antarctic Press’ series:

As the lost US Marine Corps tank crew refuels in Iraq, a sniper’s bullet punctures their fuel line, dousing them in the flammable liquid! It’s a race against time to move out before the sniper’s tracer round ignites the gas and turns the tank into a 65-ton funeral pyre!

And here’s the American Goth Press description of theirs:

Beneath the sultry façade of Los Angeles lurks a mysterious casino bent on making money off of murder. Bartender Timothy Choir and otherwise regular people play as undercover pawns in a violent competition that leaves the winner with millions of dollars—and the losers dead. But there is much more than mortal death going on in the Killbox, and Timothy soon discovers that winning might not be an option.

While the two series are in no way similar, there definitely could be confusion between two comics with the exact same name from two different publishers.

American Gothic Press’ Killbox will be available in April. Antarctic Press’ version is available now.

Update: Antarctic Press has sent American Gothic Press a cease and desist.
