Titan Comics Announces its Next Doctor Who Four Doctors Event

BBC Worldwide North America and Titan Comics have revealed that this summer’s special Doctor Who event comic will feature the Ninth, Tenth, Eleventh, and Twelfth Doctors from Titan’s four ongoing Doctor Who series. This comic will be a spectacular five-part, bi-weekly adventure featuring one of the Doctor’s most iconic foes – the Cybermen!

Penned by best-selling authors George Mann & Cavan Scott with art by Alessandro Vitti, this highly anticipated event comic kicks-off in stores and on digital platforms Wednesday, July 6th 2016, supported by Titan’s third annual Doctor Who Comics Day event on Saturday, July 9th 2016.

2016 marks the 50th anniversary of the show’s iconic cyborgs, the Cybermen. The Cybermen first appeared in the serial ‘The Tenth Planet’ in 1966, and have been featured in Doctor Who numerous times since, including the 2006 two-part modern origin story, ‘Rise of the Cybermen’ and ‘The Age of Steel.’

Suiciders Gets a Second Volume from Vertigo

Vertigo‘s Suiciders series makes its triumphant return with the release of a second chapter, Suiciders: Kings of Hell.A., due out in March. This six-issue miniseries will continue to be written by creator Lee Bermejo and joining him on art is Alessandro Vitti whose kinetic style perfectly fits Suiciders’ brutal landscape, colors by Jordan Boyd.

A whole generation has grown up since the Great Quake, and people like Trix and her brother Johnny don’t know what life was like before New Angeles crumbled. Suffice to say, they’ve learned how to make the most of living inside the collapsed city, and particularly within their ’hood. Johnny is the leader of the Kings of HelL.A., a street gang ready to protect its turf against any and all comers—though Johnny may have taken things too far when he crossed Leonard, a former Suicider known as the Coyote. Things are about to get a whole lot more violent. Meanwhile, Trix is finding love in the arms of Johnny’s best friend, and their star-crossed romance is going to bring trouble of an entirely different kind.

Kings of Hell.A. will hit shelves – virtual and physical – on March 30, 2016. Issue #1, available for $3.99, will also have a variant cover by James Harren.

Review: Red Lanterns #26

Red_Lanterns-26_Cover-1A RED WILL BE DEAD! It’s Guy Gardner and five Red Lanterns on their first mission in Sector 2814—a planetary army a billion strong, led by the evil fascist dictator Field Marshal Gensui. How can they all possibly survive? In fact, not all of them do!

For a few issues now, writer Charles Soule has putting his stamp on the Red Lantern mythos. He’s taken them from red Ghost Rider rageaholics and given them more depth than their one note rage. This series has more to share with Sons of Anarchy than what’s come before when it comes to the characters. While he did all of that, he’s also been setting up the long game for what will be some interesting next few issues.

Soule also isn’t afraid to shake things up, as evident by this issue. Members really show off their personalities and one doesn’t make it by the end of it all, the series isn’t a one-note thing anymore and is standing out from the rest of the Lantern series.

Joining Soule on art is Alessandro Vitti on art duties. His style is solid playing off the various scenes and situations quite well. It’s a good match up between the two.

If you tried the series when it debuted and gave up, Soule has invigorated the series and given it the characters and depth it deserves and I knew could be done. He’s still laying out his long term plan, so now is the time to hop on and see what you’ve been missing.

Lights Out Continues in Red Lanterns #24

You’ve already seen sneak peeks at chapters one, two, and three of Lights Out – this October’s epic crossover event that will change the Green Lantern universe forever.

Written by Charles Soule and illustrated by Alessandro Vitti, Red Lanterns #24 serves as the penultimate chapter of Lights Out. In this issue, Hal Jordan travels to the Red Lanterns’ home planet of Ysmault to enlist their help in the battle against Relic that has already cost him and the Corps so much. Guy Gardner, however, is furious with Hal and wants to get something from the Green Lanterns in exchange for the Red Lanterns’ help. Meanwhile, it’s Atrocitus vs. Kyle Rayner for control of the Rage entity, The Butcher!

Review – Broken Trinity: Pandora’s Box #3

Broken Trinity: Pandora's Box #3 COVA_stampedHmm, I’m a bit mixed on Broken Trinity: Pandora’s Box #3.  Top Cow has shown in other series how you can have a great mix of action, character development and amazing art all in one package.  In this comic we get the action and the art, but the character development seems to be missing.  It’s not that I disliked this issue, it’s a big summer blockbuster.  The problem is, I’ve seen what they do in other series, and that great character aspect is missing here.

The ARTIFACTS lead-in heats up!
Elias and the Disciples of Eden are drawing closer and closer to Pandora’s Box, one of the 13 Artifacts, threatening to remake the world in their mad vision. Meanwhile Finn and Glori, the bearers of the Glacier and Ember Stones, race around the globe to beat the Disciples and each other to the same goal.

From newcomers Rob Levin (The Darkness: Shadows & Flame) and Bryan Edward Hill (Broken Trinity: Aftermath), and artist Alessandro Vitti (Secret Warriors). Featuring covers by Tommy Lee Edwards (1985, Turf)!

The comic is entertaining.  This is a Michael Bay movie in comic form, and some times that’s ok.  But with it tied in so well with Artifacts, it feels like I need a bit more.  That latter series very much has that great mix that this issue seems to have missed.
