I_mage_0-1Kai and his family are on with a scientific mission to study a primitive world of magic when an unforeseen accident devastates their vessel, leaving Kai separated from the rest of the crew. Now, with the protection of a loading dock robot, an apprentice magi and her quirky mentor, Kai must survive on a world very different from his own!

Mixing small bits of humor, action, coming of age, science fiction, and fantasy, I, Mage #0 should appeal to an audience both young and old. Honestly, the writing by Gary Turner is humorous, and entertaining even in the face of disaster near the end of the story. I’m curious to see how the paralleling ideas of magic, and technology expand as the story continues on the world of Urth. Especially since early on in the comic, the writing reveal advanced A.I. and magic don’t interact well, but given the circumstances of the crash landing. How much will the magic interfere with the limited technology that fell.

If I had to choose one word to describe the artwork by Carlos Gomez and Teodoro Gonzalez, it would be: colorful. The world is filled with a cornucopia of colors, of various hues that seems to expand as the story expands. However the planet Urth, has a contrasting color scheme from the ship. Replacing the blues, white, reds, and blacks with green, yellow, darker shades of red, and brown. I’m curious to so if that contrasting color scheme continues, in upcoming issues.

I, Mage #0 would be a great gift for child who is just starting to get into comics.

Exclusive: Read Liftoff Takedown from the Bizarre New World Kickstarter

Today we have an exclusive story from the Bizarre New World Kickstarter running now. Bizarre New World started production on October 10, 2005 and was originally released by Ape Entertainment as a critically acclaimed 3 issue mini-series in 2007, followed by a mini-graphic novel sequel in 2008. These books totaled 140 pages. Work on the rest of the tale and short stories never stopped and was completely finished on February 5, 2015. The final project clocks in at 503 pages. That’s the 278 page graphic novel and a 225 page short story anthology.

Now Skipper Martin is partnering up with fellow Ape Entertainment creator Troy Dyeto to release their books through their new publishing imprint called Fractured Entertainment.

The anthology features a massive amount of creators, the full list you can find below. But we have an exclusive short story, a prime example of what you’re going to find in the anthology. Liftoff Takedown is written by Wilfredo S. Duran, with pencils by Dexter Wee, colors by Michael Spicer, lettering by Bernie Lee and edited by Skipper Martin.

Charismagic: The Death Princess

Aspen will be releasing an all-new three issue miniseries, Charismagic: The Death Princess in Fall 2012 written by Charismagic creator Vince Hernandez and featuring art by Emilio Lopez and Jocelyn Dunn with covers by Khary Randolph and Emilio Lopez.

Aspen also plans to release a special digital-exclusive Charismagic: Sparkles one-shot story over the summer by Hernandez and Siya Oum with Aspen’s proceeds going to the Make A Wish Foundation.

Homecoming

In August, from the legendary comic minds of Michael Turner, David Wohl and Scott Lobdell comes a new high school supernatural adventure series combining aliens with the always scare life of high school called Homecoming, featuring art by Emilio Laiso and Stefani Rennee.
