G.I. Joe Laces Up with ASICS for GEL-LYTE III Shoes Plus More from New Era and Hex

Hasbro has announced a collaboration with footwear brand ASICS to create all-new colorways inspired by two fan-favorite G.I. Joe characters: Storm Shadow and Snake Eyes. The special edition GEL-LYTE III shoes and coordinating apparel and accessories from New Era and Hex will be available exclusively at Foot Locker stores worldwide February 22, 2019.

The line is inspired by an epic chapter in the G.I. Joe lore: the rivalry between Storm Shadow and Snake Eyes.  Once brothers in arms as part of the Arashikage Clan, they find themselves on opposing sides of the struggle between G.I. Joe and Cobra. Now Storm Shadow and Snake Eyes each adorn their own GEL-LYTE III shoe designed by world renowned pop artist Anderson Bluu. Uncompromising on style and comfort, the GEL-LYTE III boasts iconic and innovative design that wouldn’t be complete without the split tongue and ASICS’ famous GEL technology cushioning; a silicone-like material that effectively absorbs shock and protects the feet from high-impact strikes.

The black Snake Eyes model features a crystal rubber outsole with a discovery element, premium emblem and reflective detailing with black leather; the model is elevated and modernized with custom art on the insert. The white Storm Shadow model features a crystal rubber outsole which masks the character beneath while the premium emblem detailing grounds the model in the story. Through the intertwining of story and design aesthetic the model is elevated and modernized with custom art on the insert. On the bottom of both shoe models is an iced outsole revealing Zartan – a shadowy figure who plays a key part in the Snake Eyes and Storm Shadow story.

The ASICS x G.I. JOE shoes will be sold exclusively at FootLocker.com and select POP by Foot Locker doors because Knowing is Half the Battle.

Back to the Future II’s Power Laces in 2015? Not a Whole Lot of Them.

nike-magThe intertubes have been buzzing off a report from the website Sole Collector that we can expect to see power laced shoes, made famous in the movie Back to the Future II, in 2015.

In an interview at Jordan Brand’s Flight Lab, shoe designer Tinker Hatfield was quoted by the site as saying:

Are we gonna see power laces in 2015? To that, I say YES!

Immediately something didn’t sit right with me, so I dug around for actual video of the interview, and having reviewed it, I think folks might want to edit their reports.

The full quote was:

Are we gonna see power laces in 2015? To that, I say YES! (cheers/applause) Not a whole lot of them.

That “not a whole lot of them” part has me scratching my head. Will we see “self-tying” shoes in 2015, it sounds like we probably will, but I’m thinking this might be a very limited run, or more than likely proof of concept designs. Possibly Nike will produce some and auction them off like they did a few years ago to some non-power laced shoes. Don’t expect them to line shelves though. In other words, chill out.

Overall though, I think this is another case where folks need to go to the actual source, before getting too excited.

Here’s the full video, and you can judge for yourself.

Batman Arkham City Shoes by Converse

Converse has launched some more shoes featuring comic book characters, this based on the video game Batman: Arkham City. What’s cooler is you’re able to modify the shoes picking some colors, though the choices aren’t as many as when normally creating shoes from scratch. It also looks like you’re limited to high tops.

Converse Introduces Two More DC Comics Shoes

Converse has released two more shoes in their line of shoes inspired by DC Comics. Two new shoes featuring Superman and Wonder Woman have been released. I generally love the designs of the shoes, my issue is the fact that most are hi tops, not a style I like. Also, how come Wonder Woman is marketed towards women? Some decisions aside, the shoes look great and many are currently on sale.
