Geof Darrow’s Eisner and Inkpot Award-winning Shaolin Cowboy series celebrates 21 years in print this year, and to honor that anniversary, Dark Horse Books will be collecting all of the essential stories in a brand-new collection, The Shaolin Cowboy: Beginning of the End Results—21 Years of Blood, Sweat, and Chainsaws. This hardcover book includes essential Shaolin Cowboy stories for all fans of the legendary and renowned artist Geof Darrow’s brilliantly detailed artwork.  It will be available in December 2025.

Geof Darrow’s Complete Shaolin Cowboy Odyssey Comes to Paperback in 2021

Since his first appearance sixteen years ago, Geof Darrow’s Shaolin Cowboy has been slaughtering zombies, beheading idiots, and leaving a trail of carnage and corpses in his wake. And next year, for the first time ever, Dark Horse Books will publish Darrow’s complete Shaolin Cowboy odyssey in paperback. Beginning with the release of Shaolin Cowboy: Shemp Buffet in April 2021, Dark Horse will release three paperback editions of the Shaolin Cowboy’s adventures, with each book featuring an all-new cover by Darrow and Eisner Award-Winning Colorist Dave Stewart.

Having won the Inkpot Award, won (and lost) multiple Eisner Awards and created the iconic and blood-soaked character the Shaolin Cowboy, cartoonist Geof Darrow is one of the most influential and revered cartoonists. As Vulture says, “no one draws violence quite like Geof Darrow.” In addition to the chainsaw-fueled adventures of the Shaolin Cowboy, Darrow is renowned for his early work with Moebius, his designs for television and films, his collaborations with Frank Miller and Andrew Vachss, and his iconic and detailed comic book covers. Having won the Inkpot Award, won (and lost) multiple Eisner Awards and created the iconic  and blood-soaked character the Shaolin Cowboy, cartoonist Geof Darrow is one of the most influential and revered cartoonists.

This summer, Dark Horse Books will boldly go where they have never gone before when they publish Geof Darrow’s Shaolin Cowboy: Start Trek and bring a classic, hard-to-find masterpiece back into print. Originally published as a seven issue comic book series by Burlyman Entertainment, the story garnered Darrow the Eisner Award in 2006 for Best Writer/ Artist. The Dark Horse Books edition marks the story’s first ever hardcover publication and features a new cover by Darrow and award-winning colorist Dave Stewart and the complete seven-issue saga written and illustrated by Darrow and colored by Pete Doherty, Alex Wald, and Lovern Kindzierski, as well as classic Shaolin Cowboy illustrations by Moebius (Jean Giraud), Richard Delgado, Mike Mignola, Kevin Nowlan, and John Severin.

In Shaolin Cowboy: Start Trek, the Shaolin Cowboy walks the action-packed path of three enemies. Those from the past, who still pursue him, those from the future who are waiting for him, and those from the present who find killing him isn’t going to be as easy as he looks.

Get a kung-fu grip on yourself as Geof Darrow’s blood-spattered killing machine the Shaolin Cowboy returns this April in a new four-issue mini-series to be published by Dark Horse Comics. The Shaolin Cowboy: Who’ll Stop the Reign? will be written and illustrated by Darrow, who has won the Inkpot Award and won (and lost) multiple Eisner Awards, and colored by the Eisner Award-winning Dave Stewart. The first issue will have a main cover by Darrow and Stewart and a variant cover by the award-winning Frank Miller, Darrow’s co-contributor on Hard Boiled and Big Guy and Rusty The Boy Robot.

In The Shaolin Cowboy: Who’ll Stop the Reign?, the titular hero of the series finds that his road to hell is paved not with good intentions but old nemeses hell-bent on bloody revenge.
