Review: Heroes: Vengeance #4

heroescomic4-size-600In the past, the original El Vengador is forced to fight for his honor, while in the present, Carlos faces a military tribunal. As if that’s not enough, Pelon threatens Oscar and his family.

Heroes: Vengeance #4 is filled with backstory, as the history of the wrestler who originally dawned the mask is told. Written by Seamus Kevin Fahey and Zach Craley, the issue is a light change of pace, but that manages to blend into the story oddly well given who the wrestler was. Of course the main story and the little side story, are connected since the mask links the characters. Anymore I reveal, spoils the story.

Like previous issues, the art work by Rubine is superb. I will admit the “brightness,” that shows the flashbacks is a nice contrast from the present. The transition between past and present is done seamlessly outside of the color differences. Of course the grittiness of the of the present is incredibly consistent like it is in previous issues.

Review: Heroes Vengeance #3

Heroes3_Cover A_RubineThe ‘Vengeance’ storyline continues! The origin of the previous El Vengador continues as he meets a certain Father Mauricio and discovers his secret… Plus a familiar face returns – with a deadly agenda, and the Diablos gang are still causing problems…

Honestly, this is the best one yet. It manages to introduce a lot of backstory in such a small amount of pages, which is impressive.  Along with managing to show how the underground railroad concept was set up to get EVO’s out of the city. While it may not as action filled as the last two issues, the amount of backstory introduced a lot, that ties in with the show well.

Both the main cover, and the alternate cover are superbly well drawn. While they both take a different approach to the story itself, they both suit what rests inside well. The artwork inside is superb as well, featuring a few flashbacks early on, as El Vengador fights an unknown enemy. However I really wish they would have a preview of the smuggled in EVO’s and there powers. That was one of my favorite panels in the issue. Each of them has a unique power, and some have a unusual and unique appearance.

Review: Heroes Vengeance #2

Heroes 2 A Cover_Rubine“Vengeance” Part Two It’s a day in the life of El Vengador, as he tries to balance his family life with his dealings with LA gangsters. But how will El Vengador cope when the stakes are raised and he is forced to fight a huge, fiery Evo? Plus: Discover El Vengador’s lair!

Heroes Vengeance #2 continues the story of the original El Vengador, and he came to fight the good fight against the gangsters of LA. While he pushes the good fight, as the vigilante hero going up against gangsters, EVOs, and his duty to protect his family. This book delves more into the characters childhood, and how it defined him. Defined how he became a hero and why he fights.

The contrast used in the first issue continues in this one as well with splendid results. Compared to the first issue this one isn’t as dark, or action packed as the first. The art combines with the story, as it trades back forth between the past, and the present. Contributing to the natural balance that seems to flow throughout the book.
