Shackleton Base: A Journey to the Moon

Pandasaurus Games has announced the upcoming release of Shackleton Base: A Journey to the Moon! This is a thrilling strategy game designed by Fabio Lopiano and Nestore Mangone with art by David Sitbon.

In the very near future, mankind is setting up a base in the center of the Shackleton center at the Moon’s South Pole. Players lead space agencies working together to expand the human presence on the Moon. The mission is sponsored by 3 major corporations, each pursuing its own goals.

Shackleton Base: A Journey to the Moon is a Eurogame strategy game based on a modular sandbox system. The game box contains 7 unique Corporations (which each introduce their own challenges), but only 3 are chosen each game. Throughout the game you’ll use your Engineers, Scientists and Technicians in the various areas of the board to achieve your objectives. The space agency with the most victory points at the end of the game will be declared the winner!

Get ready to take part in the race to establish a permanent base in the Shackleton crater at the Moon’s South Pole. Will you lead your space agency to victory, or will your rivals claim the glory?

How to Play

The game is played over three rounds, with each round divided into three phases:

1. Shuttle Phase
Each player drafts a shuttle tile which determines available astronauts, resources, and turn order for the upcoming phases.

2. Action Phase
Players take turns deploying their astronauts on the moon to collect resources, build structures, or fund projects.

3. Maintenance Phase
Deployed astronauts are assigned to work on the structures (providing a bonus to the player owning them), then players collect income and pay maintenance costs.

Pandasaurus Games Introduces Ctrl

Place your colored cubes to control every angle in this head-scratching strategy game! One you place your cubes, you place your flag to block others’ moves. Players score points for each of their own colored blocks left visible at the end of the game, as viewed from every angle except the bottom. Ctrl takes minutes to learn but has enough depth to engage the whole family. Once you’ve taken Ctrl, you can’t stop coming back for more!

This game is special. It’s the type of game you will want to play again the second you are through. 2-4 players, 20 minutes. Designed by Julio Nazario, Ctrl is being released by Pandasaurus Games.

Cat Tower is on Kickstarter Right Meow

Cat Tower is a lethally cute, dexterity-based, paper-craft cat stacking game by Taiwanese designer, Aza Chen. The uproarious player interaction and unique, unwieldy cat components make Cat Tower an instant obsession for anyone who plays it.

The object of Cat Tower is to rid yourself of all the cats in a your hand by stacking each cat in various, precarious positions based on die roll, which determines how you stack your cat onto the central tower (or how many cats you may stack).Adding to the fun are special “Fatty Catty” cards, which bring about spontaneous changes in game play.

Fire And Axe Sails into Game Stores this May With Exclusive Minis

Fire and AxeIDW Games and Pandasaurus Games announced today that Fire & Axe will land in game stores this May. Fire & Axe pits players as Viking warriors, racing to pillage, plunder, and conquer their way across Europe in an effort to bring glory to their clans. Fire & Axe has long been out of print, and has developed a cult-like status in the marketplace, this new edition features updated art and more than 90 brand-new sculpted miniatures, including exclusive minis that will only be available by pre-ordering this title.
Fire & Axe seats three to five players, and is playable in roughly 90 minutes. Each round players take a turn that consists of seven in-game days to load their ships and send them out to trade with or conquer Europe. There is also a unique mission system that gives all players a chance to complete tasks on mission cards, which when completed, awards bonuses that can tip the scales of battle. Exclusive to pre-ordering customers and game stores, players will be given three different viking miniatures with which to do their raiding and settling.

IDW Games Announces Two Big Box Games

Fire & AxeIDW Games and Pandasaurus Games announced today at Gen Con 2014 that they will bring two cult-favorite titles to tabletops in 2015; Fire & Axe and WildcattersFire & Axe pits players as Viking warriors, racing to pillage, plunder, and conquer their way across Europe, while Wildcatters sees players as oil barons maneuvering their corporations to come out on top during the 19th century oil boom.

Fire & Axe seats three to five players, and is playable in roughly 90 minutes. Each round players take a turn that consists of seven in-game days to load their ships and send them out to trade with or conquer Europe. There is also a a unique mission system that gives all players a chance to complete tasks on mission cards, which when completed, awards bonuses that can tip the scales of battle.

Wildcatters is a deeply strategic economic game for three or four players, playable in roughly two hours.  Players work to develop oil fields, bid for oil rights, and build the equipment required to transport and refine their crude and take it to the market.  The game forces players to work together to find oil at a good price, and transport it to refineries, but only the player who delivers the most oil will come out on top.

Both titles will join a rapidly expanding lineup that features a mix of comic book adaptation games like CHEW, V-Wars, and 30 Days of Night as well as imported and original titles like Machi Koro and Diamonsters.

IDW Games and Pandasaurus Games Brings Machi Koro to the US

Today IDW Games announced the publication of Machi Koro, the first of many small box games to be released in partnership with Pandasaurus Games. This July, gamers can look forward to adding the international hit card game Machi Koro to their weekly game sessions.

This will be the first North American printing of the fast-paced, dice-rolling city builder, Machi Koro. In the game, players compete to be the first person to build up their simple village into a sprawling metropolis. Originally designed and released in Japan, Machi Koro has developed a dedicated fan-base around the world. Excited fans have been eagerly anticipating an English translation, and the game has already garnered a “seal of excellence” from The Dice Tower among many other accolades.

Armed only with your trusty die and a dream, you must grow Machi Koro into the largest city in the region. You will need to collect income from developments and build public works, and steal from your neighbors coffers. Just make sure they aren’t doing the same to you! Machi Koro is a fast-paced light-hearted game for you and up to 3 friends. They say you can’t build Rome in a day, but Machi Koro will can be built in under 30 minutes!

Machi Koro is on display at the GAMA trade show March 17-21, 2014. The first 100 attendees to participate in a demo at the IDW Games booth will walk away with a promo copy of Machi Koro. The game will retail for $29.99 and an expansion is already being planned for release for this holiday season.

IDW Games to Release The X-Files Big Box Board Game

This summer, fans of The X-Files will have a brand-new way to search for the truth, with the release of a brand-new big box board game! Players will get the chance to take on the role of Mulder, Scully, and the X-Files team as they work to uncover global conspiracies and threats while going up against various members of the Syndicate.

The X-Files board game will focus heavily on material from the first three seasons of the television series, giving fans a chance to start from the beginning of the phenomenon. IDW Games has enlisted top-notch designer, Kevin Wilson to bring The X-Files to the strategy board game community. Acclaimed gallery and comic book artist, menton3 brings his talents to the board gaming world by providing art direction for this project as well as the stunning box art. Designed for a playtime of between sixty and ninety minutes, two to five players will face off against one friend who will control the Smoking Man and his nefarious network.
