CRWN Studios Expands Into Distribution

CRWN Studios

CRWN Studios, a logistics and publishing services company based in Portland, Oregon, is expanding its operations to include distribution. After more than a decade supporting independent publishers, artists, and creators with manufacturing, crowdfunding fulfillment, and e-commerce infrastructure, CRWN is now bringing that same capability to publishers seeking wider retail reach.

This expansion positions CRWN as a full-service partner for publishers and independent creators who want to enter both the U.S. and U.K. trade markets while retaining control of their audience, catalog, and financial terms.

As part of this move, CRWN Studios has hired Terry Helman (formerly of Diamond Book Distributors), who joins as Director of Sales. Helman will oversee sales strategy and publisher relations, drawing on decades of experience with graphic novels, comics, and tabletop/RPG categories.

Several former Diamond Book Distributors clients including Living the LineGoodman GamesPegamoose Press, and Lionwing Publishing have already signed on with CRWN for distribution, alongside publishers who previously partnered with CRWN for direct fulfillment, such as Dragons & BeastiesArchmage StudiosRoll for Combat, and independent creators Marie EngerSimon RoyDon AustinTavis Maiden, and many more to soon be announced.

CRWN Studios has already begun servicing retail and wholesale accounts across the U.S. and U.K., with support for all major book retailers and a new direct-order portal for comic shops, bookstores, hobby retailers, and specialty stores. Warehousing, catalog management, fulfillment, and trade logistics are all operated from CRWN’s Portland facility.

As part of onboarding, new distribution clients are integrated into Firebrand Technologies for title management and ONIX data feeds, with review copies available via Edelweiss, and print and digital catalogs launching in 2026.

Desperate times call for desperate measures and Rocko will do whatever it takes to win back his best bud’s affection, even if it means breaking the law or facing childhood bullies at his high school reunion.

In Rocko’s Modern Afterlife, in O-town’s dystopian future, everyone’s cell phone is glued to their hands, Heffer makes a living streaming video games online, and the latest app lets you avoid all contact with everyone else without even looking up from your gadget!

But even in the midst of this techno-utopia, there’s something not quite right with Rocko’s fellow citizens. While Rocko takes two weeks to chill and unplug from technology, the rest of the town seems to be going mad. When danger comes knocking at his door, the newly zen wallaby will have to choose whether to stay barricaded within his home or venture forth into a wasteland of mindless citizens.

Brian Hurtt, Marie Enger and Matt Kindt present the HEK Treasury and Launch HEK Studio

HEK Studio

What if the TWILIGHT ZONE and McSweeney’s made a baby?

And what if the baby was one hardcover treasury of comics — curated and created by three acclaimed creators — featuring over 100 pages of story and art?

Brian Hurtt, Marie Enger, and Matt Kindt present The HEK Treasury, a deluxe collection of all new epic, experimental science fiction, fantasy and genre short stories. The HEK Treasury will showcase each creator as they unleash new ideas, using experimental art and storytelling techniques. If funded through Kickstarter, pledges will be delivered to backers this fall. The HEK TREASURY Kickstarter campaign is live as of August 12th and runs for 30 days.

The HEK Treasury will be presented in a large prestige format hardcover (8 ¾  x 11 5/8 )*  and offer readers an immersive experience, featuring full color art, a tri-fold narrative poster and loose-leaf story cards. Hurtt, Enger, and Kindt began sharing a studio in St. Louis in 2015 and have been creating graphic novels and comic books side by side for the last four years. This is their first truly collaborative effort and the inaugural publication by their new collective, HEK Studio.

Matt’s contribution to The HEK Treasury is “The Great Mech Wars,” 3 interconnecting 10-page chapters presenting the tale of an old, sad war-mech.

Marie’s Enger’s stories for The HEK Treasury share a dystopian theme of bleak, fantastical, ruined worlds and great despair —  leading to new, dangerous, beginnings. From death cults to telepathy, her stories push the outer limits of storytelling.

Brian Hurtt’s stories, like Matt’s, consist of three interconnected dystopian tales, featuring weaponized flora and fauna, suspended animation and mutants.

Last summer, HEK Studio purchased a vintage Route 66 garage (circa 1953). They’ve been working on converting it into the first full-time exclusive comic book studio in St. Louis.

The HEK TREASURY Kickstarter campaign is live now.
