The Mighty Nein Origins library concludes with two graphic novels in 2024

After diving into the backstories of Jester Lavorre, Caleb Widogast, Yasha Nydoorin, Fjord Stone, Nott the Brave, and Mollymauk Tealeaf in the Critical Role: The Mighty Nein Origins graphic novels, Dark Horse Books and Critical Role present the final two origin stories with Critical Role: The Mighty Nein Origins—Beauregard Lionett and Critical Role: The Mighty Nein Origins—Caduceus Clay.

Enter the world of the Cobalt Soul in Critical Role: The Mighty Nein Origins—Beauregard Lionett. Despite her origins with a “traditional” family, Beauregard Lionett’s penchant for troublemaking was legendary. Outraged by her criminal activity, Beau’s father arranged for her to be kidnapped and turned over to the order of monks known as the Cobalt Soul for some much-needed discipline and direction. But the direction Beau takes–toward the Mighty Nein–isn’t what anyone anticipated.

Matthew Mercer, Marisha Ray, and Mae Catt write Beauregard’s backstory, with art by Guilherme Balbi, colors by Diana Sousa, and letters by Ariana Maher, with Balbi and Sousa illustrating the cover.

Last but certainly not least, the final member of the Mighty Nein to receive his own graphic novel is Caudecus Clay in Critical Role: The Mighty Nein Origins—Caduceus Clay. Generations of the Clay family have tended to the careful rituals in the Blooming Grove. But when corruption begins to creep in on their sacred space, the Clays depart one by one to seek answers. Soon young Caduceus and Clarabelle are the only ones left, and when a dangerous burial quest falls to Caduceus, he must leave the Grove to do the family’s work.

Matthew Mercer, Taliesin Jaffe, and Kendra Wells write the graphic novel, with art by Selina Espiritu, colors by Eren Angiolini, letters by Ariana Maher, with cover art by Gus Allen and Angiolini.

Critical Role: The Mighty Nein Origins—Beauregard Lionett will be available in bookstores April 30, 2024 and in comic shops May 1, 2024. It is now available to pre-order at Amazon, Barnes & Noble, and your local comic shop and bookstore for $17.99.

Critical Role: The Mighty Nein Origins—Caduceus Clay HC will be available in bookstores June 4, 2024 and in comic shops June 5, 2025. It is now available to pre-order at Amazon, Barnes & Noble, and your local comic shop and bookstore for $17.99.

Bad Idea reveals foreign translations and partners with Moztros Ediciones, Bliss Éditions, and Lithuanian Legends Ink

Bad Idea has announced the first foreign translations of their library of comics. Bad Idea comics will now available in French, Spanish and even Lithuanian! International partners include Moztros Ediciones in Spain, Bliss Éditions in France, and Lithuanian Legends Ink in Lithuania, Latvia, Estonia and Belarus.

Moztros Ediciones will kick off their Bad Idea slate of releases in Spanish language markets with the bone-crunching Tankers by New York Times bestselling writer Robert Venditti and blockbuster artist Juan José Ryp. Like a Saturday morning cartoon that’s run irresponsibly over-budget, TANKERS is here to take all of our insecurities about mankind’s most self-destructive impulses and turn them up until the knob snaps off.

Bliss Éditions explodes into French language markets with a Bad Idea slate that launches with an epic of incredible scope and power — Odinn’s Eye. Haunted by visions from the god-king Odinn himself, 12 year old Solveig is tasked with a brutal mission – assemble a war party, journey across the nine worlds and retrieve the eye Odinn famously traded for wisdom, or watch the world wither and die. From the visionary minds of Eisner Award nominated writer Joshua Dysart and powerhouse artist Tomás Giorello.

And Lithuanian Legends Ink lets loose on their Bad Idea odyssey with an unprecedented day-and-date, simultaneous launch of The Destroyer. The explosive and heartbreaking story of rebirth in the midst of death from superstar film and TV writer Mae Catt and Eisner Award winning artist Alberto Ponticelli will be available for sale in Lithuanian across the entire Baltic region on December 20th, the same day as its global release in English.

Bad Idea teases The Destroyer’s arrival this Christmas

Bad Idea is back and teased a new comic, The Destroyer, from Mae Catt, Alberto Ponticelli, David Baron, Lewis Larosa, and Rico Renzi. You’ll find it in Bad Idea “Destination Stores,” the limited stores carrying the publisher’s comics. It’s a return to stores for the publisher who has recently moved to crowdfunding, a break from their initial pledge of supporting stores.

Guesses on this one?

Bad Idea Has Some Very Interesting Ideas for the Comic Industry

Yesterday, the new comic publisher Bad Idea was announced and teased. Today, we have more details on what to expect.

Debuting in May 2020, the publisher will release one or two single issues per month in a “pristinely designed, prestige-format package” for $3.99. There will be no variants and the issues will not be released digitally, collected into trade paperbacks, hardcovers, or other “bookshelf formats.” That means there will only be single-issue comics.

But, there’s a catch! The comics won’t be available everywhere. Instead, Bad Idea will self-distribute the series to an initial 20 comic book shop who will qualify based on “a unique system of criteria” that includes extra promotional commitments and a “strictly enforced ‘limit one per customer'” policy for Bad Idea comics, among other stipulations. More retailers will be admitted throughout the year to eventually bring that number up to around 50 stores by the end of 2020.

Megalith

The first series will be ENIAC by Matt Kindt and Doug Braithwaite. Other projects are coming from Marguerite Bennett, Mae Catt, Joshua Dysart, Tomas Giorello, Eric Heisserer, Jody Houser, Lewis LaRosa, Jeff Lemire, Peter Milligan, Adam Pollina, Robert Venditti, Zeb Wells, and more. In the announcement, Megalith was also teased with a cover by Lewis LaRosa. Projects have been worked on for the past year in “secret.”

First issues will usually be oversized with page counts exceeding the standard 22 pages or feature “hidden features” and other surprises not mentioned in public.

The goal is to get people into comic shops making each release an event.

Bad Idea is the brainchild of the five team members that rebuilt Valiant and developed the forthcoming Bloodshot feature film. Dinesh Shamdasani and Warren Simons will share the roles of Co-CEO & Co-Chief Creative Officer, Hunter Gorinson will serve as Publisher, Joshua Johns will serve as Director of Marketing, and Atom Freeman has returned as a Sales Consultant.
