Hot on the heels of Aspen’s hit series Lola XOXO comes Lola XOXO: Wasteland Madam, an all-new mini-series that takes place in the familiar Wasteland written by Vince Hernandez with art by Lola XOXO series creator Siya Oum.

Once a woman with a promising future and the love of her life by her side, the “Wasteland Madam” evolved into a ruthless leader following the nuclear holocaust that destroyed the city of Chicago. She’s now responsible for protecting a loyal band of survivors from the threat of annihilation, but that’s easier said than done in the wild Wasteland, where enemies are everywhere the law of the land is enforced by blood.

Lola XOXO: Wasteland Madam will hit stores on April 8th with two direct edition covers, the first by Oum and the second by Lori “Cross” Hanson, as well as two retailer incentive variants by Oum and Dawn McTeigue and a blank sketch cover.

Graphic Policy’s Top Comic Picks this Week!

BitchPlanet01_CoverAWednesdays are new comic book day! Each week hundreds of comics are released, and that can be pretty daunting to go over and choose what to buy. That’s where we come in! Below are ten suggestions of comics, graphic novels, or trade paperbacks you should spend some extra time checking out and think about picking up.

Pick of the Week: Bitch Planet #1 (Image Comics) – The highly anticipated women in- prison sci-fi exploitation riff. Think Margaret Atwood meets Inglourious. There’s lots of buzz, and some good word of mouth leading up to this first issue, and I’m happy to say, it lives up to the hype.

Afterlife With Archie #7 (Archie Comics) – It’s been too long since the last issue! One of the best series of the year.

Batgirl #37 (DC Comics) – A change in design, a change in direction, a change in attitude, a whole new series that’s not too late to check out and see what the buzz is about!

Copperhead #4 (Image Comics) – An awesome space western. A comic that’s under the radar, and so good.

Eternal #1 (BOOM! Studios) – If death wasn’t an obstacle, how would that change life? Clones toss things in the air, and this series explores the aftermath. The first issue is not what we expected, and a solid debut.

Lola XOXO #5 (Aspen Comics) – It’s too long between issues! Such a beautiful comic to look at, and the apocalyptic world is a fascinating one to explore. It’s a great comic, that’d also be a fantastic game too!

Southern Bastards #6 (Image Comics) – One of the top comic series of the year. Southern noir at its best.

Southern Dog #4 (Action Lab Entertainment) – A comic dealing with racism in the south? Yes please. Plus werewolves.

Spider-Man and the X-Men #1 (Marvel) – Guess who’s taking over? Well, this should be interesting.

The Valiant #1 (Valiant Entertainment) – Valiant puts out one of the best comic superhero universes out there. This new limited series kicks of their Valiant Next initiative, and is a perfect starting place for folks to check out what they’ve been missing. Hop on the bandwagon now, before it’s too late!

Aspen Launches 350 Titles on Madefire

Madefire-AspenComic#CA9866DAspen Comics has announced the launch of over 350 new and classic titles from the publisher’s digital library available starting on October 23 on Madefire. Madefire delivers Motion Books, an interactive audio-visual reading format that combines art and sound for a new style of digital storytelling. The new titles will be available on both the Madefire iOS and Android apps for tablets and smartphones. Madefire Motion Books & Comics has been a 5-star rated app since launch and recently recognized in the iOS App Store as an Editors’ Pick, Best New Apps and Best of July (2014).

The Madefire Motion Book Tool was also recently launched to the public in July and has been continuously developed with the creator in mind. Taking static art a step further by incorporating movement, sound and depth to visual reading, the platform continues to push the limits in digital storytelling. New features have been introduced to allow for a more streamlined creative process like creating covers with a click of a button and animating art in a few simple steps. Publishing to the web has never been easier and can take as little as 5 minutes. The ease of sharing your story on a website or blog is also more fluid now with an embed code automatically created when the book is published, giving the creator control of where and how their story is told.

The first wave of Aspen Comics’ books on Madefire will cover a large variety of titles including Michael Turner’s Fathom and Soulfire, Executive Assistant: Iris, Lola XOXO in addition to a majority of the publisher’s past library of books. New releases such as Aspen’s upcoming The ZooHunters will also be available day and date on November 5. Aspen Comics plans to include titles from their all-new Big Dog Ink imprint soon as well.

SDCC 2014: Aspen Comics’ Announcements

At this year’s San Diego Comic-Con, Aspen Comics had numerous announcements throughout the convention and their panel.

Aspen’s runaway hit 2014 series Lola XOXO returns in 2015 with an action-packed Lola XOXO: Volume 2 by creator Siya Oum, as well as an all new spin-off mini-series Lola XOXO: Wasteland Madam written by Vince Hernandez and illustrated by Oum. Lola XOXO: The Wasteland Madam will feature an all new heroine in the Lola Universe struggling to maintain control over a renegade force of post-apocalyptic survivors, while trying to come to grips with her horrific and tragic past.

This return of one of Aspen’s leading heroes focuses on the aftermath of the catastrophic first volume’s climax, while offering an all new jumping on point for new readers.

Aspen Novels, the new prose imprint from the publisher, will release its second novel this November, Seven to Die, from author T.G. Roberts. Seven to Die tells the story of Lex MacArthur, a San Francisco college student who comes into possession of an enigmatic clay pendant that unlocks a bevy of dormant superhuman genes. She’s stronger, she’s faster, and she’s on a mission to find out why. As Lex sets out to discover who she is and where she really came from, she comes face-to-face with Egil, a killer who has been tracking Lex her entire life.  At the helm of an enormous operation to eradicate all of Lex’s kind, Egil captures Lex’s long-lost mother, forcing Lex to confront him head on and save those she loves from certain death.

This kid-friendly coloring and activity book will feature a story written by Vince Hernandez with art by Agnes Garbowska.

The publisher has confirmed their recent addition to the Madefire Motion Comic App with a series of upcoming announcements planned for their release schedule in the coming months.

Aspen has signed on with the consulting firm, The Powell Group, to expand their multi-media publishing in the video game industry with a plan to adapt their popular titles into several platforms.

 

Aspen has teamed up with the app beacon company Webble to produce a Cosplay Card Set featuring the industry’s most popular cosplayers as Aspen’s top characters.
