The Ponyo Film Comic All-in-One Edition collects the comic adaptation in one beautiful hardback

Ponyo is a sweet-faced goldfish from a magical realm under the sea. One day, Ponyo’s curiosity takes her far from home. After accidentally hitching a ride on a jellyfish, Ponyo washes up on the shore and is found by Sosuke, a kindly human boy. Sosuke takes her home and does his best to make sure she’s happy and well-fed in the human world. The Richard Corben Library adds Rowlf and Other Fantasy Stories to the collection

Dark Horse Books presents Rowlf and Other Fantasy Stories, the next volume in the Richard Corben Library. This masterpiece, written and illustrated by the celebrated artist, Grand Prix at Angoulême award-winner, and Will Eisner Hall of Fame member Richard Corben, collects a trilogy of werewolf stories in a beautiful hardcover edition. This volume includes a new introduction by Hayao Miyazaki, a postface by project art director José Villarrubia, a cover gallery, original lettering scripts, and more.

Rowlf is a postmodern take on Beauty and the Beast that mixes high fantasy with dystopian science fiction. The Beast of Wolfton and its sequel, The Spirit of the Beast, are ironic love stories of a werewolf family saga. The book closes with a poignant free adaptation of one of the Japanese legends by Lafcadio Hearn called The Story of Oteg.

Rowlf and Other Fantasy Stories (128 pages, hardcover, 6.625″ x 10.1875″) will be available in bookstores on August 4, 2025 and in comic shops on August 5, 2025. The Boy and the Heron wins the weekend box office while Renaissance: A Film by Beyoncé falls hard

The Boy and the Heron

The latest Hayao Miyazaki film The Boy and the Heron was a winner taking the weekend box office with $10.4 million domestically. Its domestic total after the first week is $12.8 million. Internationally, the film has grossed $84.2 million for a worldwide total of a little over $97 million. It knocked out Renaissance: A Film by Beyoncé which dropped to sixth place after losing 77.1% from its first week despite adding theaters. The concert film came and went quickly…

The Hunger Games: The Ballad of Songbirds & Snakes held steady in second place with an estimated $9.4 million to bring its domestic total to $135.7 million. The international total remained steady at $122.7 million for a worldwide total of $258.4 million.

Godzilla Minus One held steady in third place with $8.3 million to bring its domestic total to $25.3 million. Internationally, the film grossed about $3.5 million over the week to bring that total to $26.6 million for a worldwide total of a little under $52 million.

Trolls Band Together remained in fourth place with $6.2 million to bring its domestic total to $83.1 million. Over the week, the film grossed $4.9 million internationally to bring that gross to $90.7 million. Worldwide, the movie has grossed $173.8 million.

Wish rounded out the top five and added $5.3 million to its domestic total to bring that to $49.4 million. Internationally, the movie grossed $16.5 million over the week to bring it to $56.1 million. Worldwide, the movie has earned $105.5 million.

In comic film news…

The Marvels continues to slide. Coming in twelfth, the film added an estimated $1.3 million to its domestic total to bring that to $82.9 million. Things are going a bit better internationally where the film added $150,000 over the week to bring it to $116.5 million. Worldwide, the movie has grossed a little over $199.4 million.

The week’s overall box office success…

Numbers have 59 films earning $71,131,971 from 41,237 theaters. That’s a dip from the previous weekend’s $97,199,355 from 38,462 theaters and 51 films. The average earning was $1,724.96 which is about a third less than the previous weekend’s $2,527.15.

Animation Comes to Ithacon!

Howl’s Moving Castle

This year, Ithacon is branching out— anime, manga, and animation are coming to Ithacon! Ithacon 46 will be held at Ithaca College’s Emerson Suites on April 22 and 23. Tickets are on sale now. Fans who order tickets early will receive a Swag Bag including up to $40 of free merchandise.

In partnership with the Ithaca College Anime Club, Ithacon is excited to announce a screening of the classic Studio Ghibli film from legendary director Hayao Miyazaki, Howl’s Moving Castle. The screening will be hosted by members of the IC Anime Club’s executive board.

There will also be an animation trivia game! The quiz, hosted through Kahoot, will test competitors’ knowledge on all things animation including cartoons, movies, anime, and more.

Ithacon 2023 tickets are now on sale. Tickets are $20 for adults, youth memberships (ages 7 – 17) are $5, and children under 6 (accompanied by an adult) can attend for free.

New Anime and Manga this April from VIZ Media!

VIZ Media has some highly anticipated new home media and publishing releases debuting this month. New titles include set 1 of the anime series Boruto: Naruto Next Generations, as well as My Hero Academia: School Briefs, a short story collection based on the hit superhero action series created by Kohei Horikoshi. Nier:Automata: Short Story Long is the second novel adaptation based on the best-selling video game. Horror master Junji Ito’s Smashed: Junji Ito Story Collection will contain thirteen manga stories and debut later in the month.

The last two titles set for release include The Art of Nausicaä of the Valley of the Wind and Nausiccaä of the Valley of the Wind Picture Book. Each book features vivid Studio Ghibli art from the legendary director Hayao Miyazaki.

SDCC 2018: VIZ Media Announces New Titles Debuting in Early 2019

VIZ Media expands its publishing catalog with a variety of new acquisitions announced during its official panel events held this past weekend at San Diego Comic-Con 2018.

The new titles are scheduled for release beginning early next year and include My Hero Academia: School Briefs, the first of three prose short story collections based on the hit superhero action series created by Kohei Horikoshi. Rumiko Takahashi’s beloved manga series Urusei Yatsura receives a new large trim edition, and Hiromu Arakawa brings us hilarious four-panel comics from the world of Fullmetal Alchemist. Two new Nausiccaä books, The Art of Nausiccaä of the Valley of the Wind and Nausiccaä of the Valley of the Wind Picture Book were also announced. Each book features vivid Studio Ghibli art from the legendary director Hayao Miyazaki.

Hayao Miyazaki is one of Japan’s most beloved animation directors. His first feature, The Castle of Cagliostro, was released in 1979 and his critically acclaimed film, Nausicaä of the Valley of the Wind, which was based on his own manga, was released in 1984. In 1985, Miyazaki cofounded Studio Ghibli, through which he directed the box office smashes Princess Mononoke (1997) and Spirited Away (2001), which won the Golden Bear at the 2002 Berlin International Film Festival and the Academy Award® for Best Animated Feature Film in 2003. Howl’s Moving Castle (2004) received the Osella Award for technical achievement at the 2004 Venice International Film Festival. In 2005, VIFF awarded Miyazaki the Golden Lion Award for Lifetime Achievement.

Miyazaki’s other acclaimed films include My Neighbor Totoro, Kiki’s Delivery Service and Ponyo. Miyazaki’s essays, interviews and memoirs have been collected in Starting Point: 1979–1996 and Turning Point: 1997–2008. His final film, The Wind Rises, was nominated for both a Golden Globe and an Academy Award®. In November 2014, Miyazaki received an honorary Academy Award® at the academy’s sixth annual Governor’s Awards.
