Vendetta: Holy Vindicator

Power Comics has announced a partnership with independent publisher Floating World Comics to curate a new line of reissues featuring its favorite and most important discoveries including Ken Landgraf and Bob Huszar‘s street vigilante epic New York City Outlaws, and a collection of Steve McArdle‘s singular thrash-metal outlaw-verse Red Bullet Comics.

Announcing the debut publication from Floating World / Power Comics…

VENDETTA: HOLY VINDICATOR by Steve McArdle

Just when we thought we’d seen every supreme extreme in the superhero megaverse… we unearthed the decades-old, skin-flayingly singular work of Steve McArdle and his Red Bullet Comics imprint. From the start, McArdle was a maestro of blood and mayhem, an overlooked ’90s creative genius wrapped in black leather and raw ambition.

In his undisputed masterpiece Vendetta: Holy Vindicator, skulls, spikes, motorbikes, chains, more chains, and Satan collide at thrash-metal speed in what may be the most intenselyconfident entry to the self-published comics canon… ever.

Floating World Comics is an independent publisher of international, avant-garde, and genre comics and graphic novels. Our publications are an exciting extension of our bookstore in Portland, OR, which has been operating at the heart of contemporary comics for over fifteen years. With a focus on a unique, curated selection of the most outstanding comics from around the world, we bring new voices to the forefront. As we have seen time and again, the mainstream often springs from underground.

Silver Sprocket is a radical indie comics publisher, shop, and gallery based in San Francisco specializing in comics that are socially conscious and fun, with numerous Eisner and Ignatz awards under their belts.

Uncivilized Books is a boutique comics publishing house based in Minneapolis, MN. Uncivilized Books champions cartoonists unafraid to grapple with big ideas. Their books are funny, smart, dense, and satisfying. We envision a future full of cartoon philosophers, comic-book poets, graphic novelists, and doodler scientists.

Night Hunters Gets Collected in November

This November, Alexis Ziritt and Dave Baker‘s Night Hunters gets collected in a trade paperback. The release features all four issues of the sold-out cyberpunk hit!

If you want to live in Gran Caracas you have two options: become a cop or die.

Night Hunters is a pulsing cyberpunk classic that tells the tale of two brothers who have to navigate the futuristic dystopian world of Venezuela, 100 years in the future.

How far would you go for your family? Would you enlist in a corrupt police department and slowly sell your body-parts for cyborg replacements so that your aging father can have a roof over his head? The only answer is pick up your gun and put one foot in front of the other.

This sci-fi epic by indie comics all-stars Alexis Ziritt and Dave Baker combines the political sharpness of Paul Verhoeven and the bleak sense of humor of Judge Dredd. If you’re on the search for the next great genre must-read this combination of Robocop and Blade Runner is definitely what you want.

I Never Promised You A Rose Garden Gets a Virtual Book Launch on March 23

I Never Promised You A Rose Garden

Portland artist Mannie Murphy is celebrating the release of their new graphic memoir/history, I Never Promised You A Rose Garden with a virtual book launch on March 23.

Mannie is joined in conversation by special guest Steve Bissette to discuss the new book. Told in the style of an illustrated diary, I Never Promised You A Rose Garden begins as an affectionate reminiscence of the author’s 1990s teenage infatuation with the late actor River Phoenix but morphs into a remarkable, sprawling account of the city of Portland and state of Oregon’s dark history of white nationalism.

Murphy details the relationship between white supremacist Tom Metzger (former KKK Grand Wizard and founder of the White Aryan Resistance) and the “Rose City” street kids like Ken Death that infiltrated Van Sant’s films — a relationship that culminates in an infamous episode of Geraldo.

Murphy brilliantly weaves 1990s alternative culture, from Kurt Cobain and William Burroughs to Keanu Reeves and the Red Hot Chili Peppers, with two centuries of the Pacific Northwest’s shameful history as a hotbed for white nationalism: from the Whitman massacre in 1847 and the Ku Klux Klan’s role in Portland’s city planning in the early 1900s to the brutal treatment of Black people displaced in the 1948 Vanport flood and through the 2014 armed standoff with Cliven Bundy’s cattle ranch.

In Murphy’s personal reflections and heart-racing descriptions of scenes like infamous campfire kiss in My Own Private Idaho, the artist’s story becomes a moral anchor to a deeply amoral regional history and marks the incredible debut of a talented new voice to the graphic medium.
