Truly’s parents are arguing all the time, so they’ve dropped her off with her aunt and uncle. Her cousin Kaz has a big imagination but he’s not the best at making friends. Maximo Skulldigg gets bullied by his older brother—and now he has to conquer Kaz and Truly’s home planet.

It’s a good thing Kaz and Truly just uncovered a family secret. After the cousins find a hideout full of strange treasures near Kaz’s house, they slip on wristbands that summon a space knight named Trinn Cyclo. Soon, he may be Earth’s only hope!

Power Button: The First Invasion is the first book in a new middle grade graphic novel series by author/illustrator Zack Soto.

Floating World Comics announces a Muhammad Ali: The Greatest Comics Biography of All Time release party

Floating World Comics is hosting a release party with Portland creator, Ryan Alexander-Tanner for the 4th and latest chapter of this ongoing comics biography, Muhammad Ali: The Greatest Comics Biography of All Time.

Every scene in the book is deeply rooted in fact and researched from dozens of sources but also relies on creative dramatization to provide an evocative retelling of events. Chapter 4 depicts the months leading up to the heavyweight title bout between Sonny Liston and Cassius Clay (these events occur before Cassius Clay changed his name to Muhammad Ali). As Cassius engages in psychological warfare against the reigning champion, he also deepens his relationship with Malcolm X and ultimately must choose between his religious beliefs and a shot at the title.

Ryan Alexander-Tanner has been creating comics and illustrations in Portland for over 20 years. He’s best known for illustrating the logo for Dave’s Killer Bread. He is the co-author (with Bill Ayers) and illustrator of To Teach: The Journey, in Comics for Columbia University’s Teachers College Press. He’s created nonfiction comics for The Nib, The New York Times, Buzzfeed, The Washington Post, The Willamette Week and the Portland Mercury, to name a few. Darkwing Duck #4 (Dynamite Entertainment) – We’re big fans of the series which picks up on the classic and beloved animated series.

The Expanse: The Dragon Tooth #1 (BOOM! Studios) – Fans of The Expanse won’t want to miss this series which fills in gaps of the television series.

Harrower #3 (BOOM! Studios) – The horror series has been fantastic with a nice mix of modern slasher classics and a modern sensibility and style.

The Mighty Barbarians #1 (Ablaze) – It’s classic fantasy with a modern sensibility about it. Check out our review!

Soko #1 (Sumerian Comics) – A routine traffic stop for two Serbian beat cops quickly descends into corruption and betrayal as a dark trail of evidence leads to the discovery of unimaginable depravity. Sounds like the out of control cop story we enjoy.

Superboy: The Man of Tomorrow #1 (DC Comics) – The Superman family memeber gets the spotlight in this series as Connor heads out on his own.

Terrorwar #1 (Image Comics) – Blue City was the last livable place on Earth. Now it’s crawling with Terrors-creatures that transform into their victims’ worst fears. Humanity’s last hope? Muhammad Cho and his overworked, underpaid crew of freelance Terrorfighters.

Each of the over 366 illustrations was created using all traditional materials with no digital manipulation. Ancient Enemies #1 (Frank Miller Presents) – Earth becomes the final battlefield for a centuries old war between two alien races.

Boat Life (Floating World Comics) – Boat Life stars novelist Tsuda Kenta, a lightly veiled stand-in for the artist, Tsuge Tadao, himself, as he pursues a life of reprieve and reverie on a small, makeshift house boat on a river outside of Tokyo.

Dark Spaces: Wildfire #5 (IDW Publishing) – The series has been amazing and such a unique concept of a heist set in a forest fire. The art has been at times jaw dropping.

DC vs. Vampires #11 (DC Comics) – We’ll keep repeating it but the series has blown past our expectations and kept us at the edge of our seat.

Eight Billion Genies #6 (Image Comics) – The series has been amazing being able to fit in so many concepts and ideas and make it all work. But, it’s the characters in the crazy world that’s the real draw.

Fear of a Red Planet #1 (AfterShock) – The sheriff on Mars must deal with the murder of someone everyone hates.

Frank Miller’s Ronin Book Two #1 (Frank Miller Presents) – It’s been a long time since we read the original but Miller returning to comics the way he is and launching this has us intrigued.

G.I. Joe: A Real American Hero #300 (IDW Publishing) – A final special oversized issue as G.I. Joe ends its time at IDW. Hopefully, this isn’t the end of Larry Hama’s writing for the series no matter where it winds up.

Kamen Rider: Zero One #1 (Titan Comics) – We’re not too familiar with Kamen Rider but we’re excited to check this out. The covers and art look awesome!

Once Upon a Time at the End of the World #1 (BOOM! Studios) – A new apocalyptic series but it’s a trilogy with each issue featuring 30 pages of story that spans a lifetime. An interesting concept from writer Jason Aaron and rotating group of artists.

Parker Girls #3 (Abstract Studio) – The series has been a lot of fun mixing action and humor, exactly what we’d expect from creator Terry Moor.

Star Wars: Revelations #1 (Marvel) – The issue teases what’s to come for Marvel’s Star Wars line of comics!

Steve McArdle’s C.R.O.W.B.A.R. 9 is back from the ’90s
