Days Missing-Kestus 004 CoverIt took three issues for me to get into the series and the fourth continues in this positive direction by again giving me something I can relate to.  Days Missing: Kestus #4 almost makes it to present day, stopping on the eve of the new millennium as Y2K looms and anxiety was so high.  A fictional take of the disaster and what if is presented before us with a great twist.

Archaia and Roddenberry Productions continue the history-making series DAYS MISSING! January 1st, 2000—the dawn of a new century came and went without incident. Or did it? On a day of fear and uncertainty, excitement and anticipation, with billions of dollars spent in preparation and humanity’s way of life hanging in the balance, The Steward encounters a true-life super villain bent on bringing the horror of Y2K to the world. Since the dawn of mankind, the enigmatic Steward has guided our destiny in solitude. But now he’s not alone—the immortal woman known as Kestus leads a secret society capable of predicting The Steward’s comings and goings. How will they affect the impending Y2K disaster? DAYS MISSING: KESTUS #4 adds another chapter to the thrilling exploits of The Steward, a being whose ability to “fold” days of time has resulted in critical human events being absent from our historical record. Although their existence is not remembered…the occurrences of these days have forever changed the course of Earth’s evolution!

The series is about mankind and our penchant for good and bad.  It questions the existence of destiny, fate and God.  Exactly what you’d expect from something with the Rodenberry name on it.  It has many of the same themes you’ve seen in their series like Star Trek.

The series has one more issue to go and I have no idea what to expect.  We’ll see what the final issue has in store, but so far it’s got me interested and looking forward to what’s next.

Days Missing Kestus 003 CoverAll it takes is for something I can relate to or some cool bit of story telling to instantly hook me for a series, even one I was wavering on.  Days Missing: Kestus #3 got me to completely to come around in this series just by setting this issue during the Apollo 11 mission.  I’m a NASA and space geek, so this was an easy hook for me.

Archaia and Roddenberry Productions continue the history-making series DAYS MISSING! Since the dawn of mankind, the enigmatic Steward has guided our destiny in solitude—but now he knows he is not alone! An immortal woman named Kestus has also been watching humanity…with a suspicious eye. It’s 1969, and mankind is poised to take one giant leap. The Steward does everything in his power to make sure the Apollo 11 moon landing is a success…but a shadowy saboteur stands in his way. DAYS MISSING: KESTUS #3 adds another chapter to the thrilling exploits of The Steward, a being whose ability to “fold” days of time has resulted in critical human events being absent from our historical record. Although their existence is not remembered…the occurrences of these days have forever changed the course of Earth’s evolution!

The issue revolves around the sabotage of that important space mission and the Steward’s mission to prevent it.  I still might not get it all, but as a stand alone issue, this one was beyond solid.  There were a lot of possibilities of where the issue could go, but it went in an entertaining direction.

I’m still not completely sold on the series, but as a stand alone issue, this one is solid.  It’s fun, entertaining and creative.  A definite buy.

Days Missing Kestus 002 CoverI’m a bit perplexed on exactly what my thoughts are about Days Missing: Kestus #2.  After reading the first issue, I really thought I’d need to read more to get a good feel for it.  And after this second issue, I need to read even more.  Phil Hester is a great writer, but there’s just something that hasn’t quite clicked for me here.

Archaia and Roddenberry Productions continue the history-making series DAYS MISSING! Since the dawn of mankind, the enigmatic Steward has guided our destiny in solitude. But during his attempt to prevent raging fires from consuming Egypt’s legendary Library of Alexandria, he discovers he’s not alone. A mysterious figure from the Steward’s past reveals herself, and alters The Steward’s existence in ways he never thought possible.

It’s the burning of Alexandria this time and the Steward must try to save as much as he can.  Other than discovering he’s not alone, I’m a bit perplexed by the series.  It’s like a series of events, and only a panel or two really deal with the big picture story.

It’s a series I like, but can’t quite recommend as it’s not a pick up and read.  There’s a big picture here, but I still can’t quite see it.

Days Missing: Kestus #1 CoverWhen I finished reading Days Missing: Kestus #1 I was left saying huh.  It’s clearly a series that you can’t quite get the feel for in on issue and can only be judged by the total work.  Published by Archaia, written by Phil Hester with art by David Marquez, the first issue very much has a “Roddenberry” feel to it.  Much like the television shows that bear that name, this comic has a bigger picture to it.

Archaia and Roddenberry Productions are proud to present the thrilling sequel to the critically acclaimed series DAYS MISSING. DAYS MISSING: KESTUS continues the saga of The Steward, a mysterious being whose ability to “fold” days of time has resulted in critical human events being absent from our historical record. Their existence is not remembered…but the occurrences of these days have forever changed the course of our evolution.

Since humanity’s birth, The Steward has stood as a guiding force for our species. But now, he is not alone! The emergence of the ancient being, Kestus, may put everything he knows in question, and the future of those he means to protect in jeopardy.

I missed the first volume of this series, so have a bit of catching up to do, but there’s a feel of an epic story here.  This is very much a television show in comic book form and definitely one you can’t quite judge from one issue.

The issue though is entertaining, with several twists that leave the reader to go back and rethink what they read.  The issue focuses on faith, courage and leadership and in the end is a pretty entertaining read.

Welcome to Anoreve, a world in between time, where children have played so long it’s almost become work, machines have worked so long they have begun to play and all the clocks have stopped at the same time. This is how this land has remained, until 314 dapper-looking gentlemen rain down from the sky and set off in different directions to start the world again. Now Ayden, the only boy to still ask questions; Zoe, the robot girl all other machines hold dear; and the Dapper Man known only as “41” must discover what happened that made time stop, understand what their true places are in this world, and learn what “tomorrow” really means. The sun is setting for the first time in memory, and once that happens, everything changes. RETURN OF THE DAPPER MEN is a visually stunning fairy tale that combines steampunk with fantasy and science fiction with Renaissance style, brought to life from the minds of award-winning playwright and comic book writer Jim McCann (NEW AVENGERS: THE REUNION) and critically acclaimed visual artist Janet Lee. Together these two have created a world where J.M. Barrie, Lewis Carroll and Maurice Sendak meet Jim Henson and Tim Burton. All sharply dressed in a pin-stripe suit and a dapper bowler hat. Tick tock, time is about to start.

Five Cover Artists on ‘Days Missing: Kestus’ Announced

Official Press Release

FIVE SUPERSTAR COVER ARTISTS ANNOUNCED FOR ARCHAIA AND RODDENBERRY’S ‘DAYS MISSING: KESTUS’

ALEX ROSS, DALE KEOWN AND DAVID MACK AMONG THE ARTISTS ILLUSTRATING THE COVERS TO THE SECOND VOLUME OF THIS HIT MINISERIES

Los Angeles, CA (July 27, 2010) – At the Archaia: Black Label panel at San Diego Comic-Con, Archaia Entertainment and Roddenberry Productions proudly announced the all-star lineup of cover artists contributing to the second volume of the critically acclaimed comic book series DAYS MISSING.

A different artist will illustrate each of the five upcoming covers of Days Missing: Kestus, which launches in September. As previously announced, Alex Ross (Kingdom Come, Astro City) will be creating the cover for issue #1. Jorge Molina (Marvel Superhero Team-Up, What If? Spiderman: House of M) will design the cover of issue #2, and Ryan Benjamin (Grifter/Midnighter, New Mutants) will lend his talents to the cover of issue #3. David Mack (Daredevil, Atomika) has signed on to draw issue #4’s cover, and Dale Keown (The Darkness, Pitt), who illustrated all of the covers for Days Missing volume 1, will return to illustrate the cover to issue #5.

“Each talented cover artist brings his own perspective of The Steward and Kestus to the series, which creates a richer, deeper understanding of these multi-layered characters,” said Roddenberry Productions Head of Development Trevor Roth.

Artist David Marquez (Syndrome: The Graphic Novel) will illustrate the pages of all five issues of the continuing epic, which fan-favorite and Eisner Award-nominated author Phil Hester (Firebreather, The Darkness, Green Arrow) will write.

Days Missing: Kestus
continues the tale of The Steward, a mysterious being who has the ability to literally “fold” days of time, secretly removing critical days from history. At the end of the first series, hints were dropped that The Steward was not alone in his powers. The second series will focus on his relationship with a new being, Kestus, as well as more days for him to “fold.”

Hester and Marquez joined Archaia’s SDCC panel along with Roddenberry Productions’ CEO Rod Roddenberry. Fans were treated to a limited run, complimentary preview book written by Creator Trevor Roth and drawn by David Marquez.

“Archaia and Roddenberry Productions have assembled five of the best cover artists in the industry today to lend their talents to this exciting franchise,” said Archaia Editor-in-Chief Stephen Christy. “It just goes to show that Days Missing is one of the best science-fiction comics out there, and this new set of issues will not only just add to its popularity, but bring in new fans!”

Days Missing: Kestus will be published under Archaia’s new Black Label line of titles, which specializes in co-developing intellectual properties with prestigious partners who are seeking to flesh out and realize their original ideas through the use of Archaia’s resources.

Issue #1 of Days Missing Vol. 2: Kestus (five-issue miniseries, full color, $3.95, 32 pages, Diamond Order Code JUL10 0764) is set to debut in September wherever comic books are sold.

Future updates on the series, including preview images and other behind-the-scenes material, can be found at www.daysmissing.com.
