Bettie Page Returns to Comics as an Undercover Operative in the 1950s

Dynamite Entertainment has announced that the iconic Pinup Queen Bettie Page, who lit the pop culture world on fire more than sixty years ago, is returning in comic book form courtesy of writer David Avallone and artist Colton Worley. With the debut issue set for release in July, Bettie Page #1 will bring the heat to fans this summer.

In this latest telling, Ms. Page is more modest than Ms. Blaise, but peels more than Ms. Emma. She out-vamps Vampirella, but she’s sweeter than Honey West. She puts the mod in model, and the bangs in bang-bang. Now the world can know the truth: her classified adventures back in 1951 Hollywood have officially been declassified.

Ms. Page has long been a staple in the comics, dating back to her debut in the 1980’s when Dave Stevens based the Rocketeer’s girlfriend “Betty” on the iconic leading lady. Subsequently, Ms. Page was seen in the anthology series from Black Cat Comics, a limited pinup series, and lastly in Dark Horse’s Bettie Page Comics written and illustrated by Jim Silke.

The debut issue of Bettie Page features a wide selection of cover variants, providing fans and retailers with the freedom of choice! The cover artwork features the talents of Terry Dodson, interior artist Colton Worley, Joseph Michael Linsner, and Scott Chantler. Limited variant editions in “Black & White” and “Virgin Art” formats are also available as retailer incentives for comic shops that support the launch issue by achieving stocking thresholds. Fans will also be excited by the limited-edition “Black Bag” edition, reminiscent of the pinup star’s era.

Bettie Page #1 is slated for release in July.

Something bad is coming, something that could kill Heaven, Hell, and Earth itself: The Godeater. And the only thing standing its way is… Evil Ernie? Justin Jordan, the Harvey Award-winning writer of such horror hits as The Strange Talent of Luther Strode and Shadowman, joins artist sensation Colton Worley to deliver an event so epic in scope, it promises to shake the very foundations of the Chaos! Comics universe!

As an added bonus, Evil Ernie: Godeater includes “Last Ditch Bitch”, a short story by Keith Davidsen and Cezar Razek. The lead singer of a Scandinavian Death Metal band becomes an unwitting pawn in Ragnarok, as guest stars Mistress Hel and Chastity go to war!

Review: Evil Ernie: Godeater #5

The Godeater has defeated the Hosts of Heaven, the Armies of Hell, and the warriors of Valhalla. The end of all things is here, unless Ernie can destroy something that can’t be destroyed. It’s the fearsome finale to Justin Jordan’s Chaos Comics epic… and perhaps the most senses-shattering event in Ernest Fairchild’s un-life! Meanwhile, our “Last Ditch Bitch” back-up series comes to its explosive conclusion, as Chastity and Mistress Hel throw down over the fate of singer Liv Halvorsen!

Victory always comes at a price, and Evil Ernie: Godeater #5, the final issue, fulfills that well. The issue forces Ernie to do the unthinkable if they are to survive the Godeater. Even if the plan for victory is a little odd in its nature. The back-up story reaches its own gory end as well.

Like the other issues in this run, the art is stunning and visceral. It layers in a lot of contrast in both the characters and the background. The dual artists also manages to give a clear distinction of stories in the process.

Review: Evil Ernie: Godeater #4

eegod-04-cov-a-parillo

Hell has gone to hell with the arrival of the Godeater, and Ernie has one last chance to stop it before it’s too late: he has to bring Heaven down to the pits! Justin Jordan, fan-favorite writer of The Strange Case of Luther Strode, continues his mind-blowing Chaos Comics epic! Meanwhile, in Chapter Four of our “Last Ditch Bitch” back-up story: How do you save death metal rocker Liv Halvorsen from the goddess Mistress Hel? Special guest star Chastity wrestles with the dilemma… while fighting tooth and nail against the Dead Onez!

The gods of old realize they must unite if they wish to survive the Godeater. The alliance is uneasy and Ernie is caught in the center of it. He’s forced to lead the army of the undead against the Godeater using the power of Hel. It seems like writers Justin Jordan and Keith Davidsen have saved the best for last with only one issue remaining.

Like the previous issues, the art is by Colton Worley and Cezar Razek is stunning and almost sublime. I will admit the Norman Rockwell influenced cover is a nice touch for this fan favorite Chaos comics creation. It feels like a blanket hiding the dark tale that lurks within its pages.
