The Chaos! Library Kickstarter Celebrates Purgatori and Chastity!

Two iconic comic book bad girls are back in business, as Dynamite Entertainment and Coffin Comics have launched a brand-new Kickstarter offering fans a complete archive of tales starring vampiress vixens Purgatori and Chastity from the beloved Chaos! Comics era! The campaign is live and runs until October 8.

This campaign follows the virally successful first foray in this historic collaboration, when Dynamite and Coffin came together to remaster and compile every story starring Evil Ernie. These new books reprinting Purgatori and Chastity comics are also filled with stunning and boundaries-breaking comics that have long been out of print and sought after by collectors. No longer will fans have to dive deep into back-issue bins, fight over skyrocketing online auctions, and trade one darling book for another in fan groups. The complete storylines of these leaders of the bad girls wave are ready for everyone’s shelves!

Kicking off in 1993, fans flocked to Chaos! Comics like moths to a flame for its genius mix of horror and tropes of the superhero genre. The heavy metal aesthetic and gritty sagas were a perfect representation of the rebelliousness, humor, and spirit of the 1990s and remain as fun today as they were then!

This new Kickstarter offers three books again. Two are devoted to the fables of Purgatori, the ancient slave girl turned demonic vampire. Created by Brian Pulido, she debuted in Evil Ernie: Revenge #1 before launching into her first solo series Purgatori: The Vampires Myth in 1996 with gorgeous artwork by superstar Jim Balent (Catwoman, Tarot: Witch of the Black Rose). Now across two titanic tomes, fans can read chapters of her journey including stories like The Dracula Gambit, Goddess War, Goddess Rising, Purgatori Empire, The Hunted, Darkest Hour, God Hunter, God Killer, and more! In addition to the aforementioned Pulido and Balent, other legendary creators who added to the tapestry of Purgi include David Quinn (Doctor Strange, Faust), Al Rio (Gen13), Mike Deodato Jr. (Avengers, Wonder Woman), Marc Andreyko (Manhunter, Supergirl), Len Kaminski (Iron Man), Joshua Dysart (Harbinger, Swamp Thing), and more.

Teenage girl Chastity Marks was struck with tragedy when turned into a vampire. When she realizes she is undetectable to her fellow vampires, her new devotion in life is hunting other bloodsuckers! Now all her solo adventures will be collected into one comprehensive volume, meticulously assembled for returning and new readers. Readers get to see her deadly skills in Evil Ernie: Straight to Hell, then she broke out into Chastity: Theatre of Pain. Later tales include Rocked, Lust for Life, Reign of Terror, Shattered, Crazytown, and more. On the Chastity front, Pulido is joined by other creators including Ivan Reis (Superman, Aquaman), Ed Benes (Birds of Prey, Justice League), Steven Grant (Punisher), Fabian Nicieza (X-Men, X-Force), Peter Vale, and others.

Each book is oversized at 9 by 12 inches. Fans can opt for three different versions of the books. Signed special editions feature ribbon markers, gilding, as well as signed and numbered bookplates. For the most discerning collectors, the super deluxe editions are limited to 333 copies each. Slipcases are also available, exclusive to the Kickstarter.

In addition to the books at the front and center of the Kickstarter, tons of awesome extras and add-ons are available. Shirts featuring both vampires and the classic Chaos! logo can be added to fans’ closets. Or patch sets can be grabbed for fans to customize their own clothes. Print sets featuring some of the most iconic artwork of these characters by top artists are included. Challenge coins and many other goodies are up for backers too!

As the campaign progresses, Dynamite and Coffin are excited to keep backers and those on the fence engaged with exciting stretch goals and surprise drops.

Dynamite and Coffin Comics announce a Co-Publishing Agreement

After a photo teased it, Dynamite Entertainment and Coffin Comics have announced the start of a historic co-publishing agreement, set to offer fans the ultimate collaboration and releases many have been waiting on for years. Following the surprise in-person announcement at Swornfest 2026 in Mesa, Arizona, this past weekend, after extensive meetings and planning between Dynamite’s Nick Barrucci and Coffin’s Brian Pulido, the full cast of characters and world of the original Chaos! Comics line will be reunited for limited-time reprint collections and merchandise, available through multiple channels, including direct-to-consumer crowdfunding campaigns and the direct market.

It all kicks off soon with a massive Kickstarter showcasing the character that began it all — Evil Ernie! In a projected three-volume set, all of the beloved original misadventures of the Evil One will be collected comprehensively for the first time ever. Presented in multiple formats, the books will amount to well over 1,500 pages. Each edition will feature a unique cover. Smiley, the Psychotic Button’s specials and solo stories will also be included in this set, while other superstars, including Lady Death, Purgatori, and Chastity will have appearances. Key storylines, including Youth Gone Wild, The Resurrection, Revenge, Straight to Hell, Destroyer, and more, will be presented in these can’t-miss tomes.

Future Kickstarter campaigns will focus on Lady Death, Purgatori, Chastity, and the Coffin universe.

As further details are confirmed, Dynamite and Coffin will keep fans up to date on book contents, formats, pricing, and launch dates. Other goodies projected to be offered include limited-edition issue reprints with epic enhancements, like metal or glow-in-the-dark effects, on top of all-new artwork from top names. A trading card set is being considered for parallel development. Posters, prints, T-shirts, patches, and challenge coins are planned.

The thrill ride mythos of Chaos! began in 1991 with the debut of Evil Ernie created by writer Brian Pulido and brought to life by the late great Steven Hughes. A couple years later, the scope and success of the effort expanded with the founding of a separate publisher and a string of new characters and titles including Lady Death, Purgatori, Chastity, Jade, Bad Kitty, Lady Demon, and many more. Pulido was revered by fans for his dark, pulse-pounding storytelling, great collaborative eye for artists, and unparalleled engagement with fans, aka the “Fiends.”

Steven Hughes established the iconic look for many of the Chaos! mainstays. His detail-oriented, moody artwork matched both Ernie’s edgy verve and the innovative “bad girl” trend, which featured Lady Death at the forefront. His visual blueprint laid the groundwork for countless creators who have tackled the characters to this day, including Ed Benes, Mike Deodato, Al Rio, Jim Balent, Ivan Reis, and countless others.

The Chaos! library outside of Lady Death was acquired by Dynamite Entertainment in 2010 and has featured in several best-selling comics and crossovers. Industry icons like Tim Seeley and Mirka Andolfo have contributed to the evolving characters, and they’ve crossed paths with Vampirella, Red Sonja, Hack/Slash, and more.

Pulido continues his tales of Lady Death and his reputation of connecting directly with “Sworn Nation” to this day through Coffin Comics. New characters, including La Muerta, Lady Satanus and Hellwitch, have wowed, and a new era of fans and creators keeps the energy alive with record-smashing Kickstarters and conventions.

She’s a heartbreaker and a slayer! The iconic bad girl Chastity is back in a new limited series in September from Dynamite!

Industry sensation Leah Williams will be writing the series, with her infamous energy translating well into the Chaos! mythos. She’s joined by artist Daniel Maine.

In this all-new entry to the Chaos! universe, Chastity has been kidnapped while auditioning for a prestigious burlesque show. She wakes up surrounded by other young women in chains on a spooky cruise ship. Her captors have made a VERY grave mistake, and they will learn that through Chastity’s grindhouse rampage to free herself and her fellow victims.

Chastity is a young punk rock fan turned vampire. Unfortunately, didn’t have the romantic kind of transformation, so she has made it her mission to hunt and slay her fellow occult beings. All while sporting some fun style and an equally killer attitude. 

For this awaited return of Chastity in her own series, a handful of top tier artists are contributing covers. Clayton Crain’s style is perfect for the horror-tinged Chaos! characters, given his work on gritty titles like Venom and X-Force. Dynamite legend Nick Bradshaw returns once again to his alma mater for a cover that heavily inspired Chastity’s latest design. Hot rising star cover artists Catherine Nodet and David Nakayama have covers. A special J. Scott Campbell “Carve Out” cover calls back to the start of the Dynamite Chaos! era. To round things out, the master Jay Anacleto will have a cover.
