For Knight Models, Harry Potter Beats Marvel as the Marvel Universe Miniature Game is No More

knight-models-logoAfter weeks of speculation Knight Models announced this morning they would no longer be making products based on characters from the Marvel Universe.

5 years ago the company launched their flagship Batman Miniature Game which eventually got a “Marvel” expansion to include Spider-Man and his villains. In February 2016 the company expanded their Marvel offerings by launching the Marvel Universe Miniature Game. The 35mm miniature game allowed you to put together a team of heroes or villains to battle it out on the tabletop. That game was followed by the DC Universe Miniature Game which, by using the same rules set, allowed gamers to put Marvel vs DC and mix and match as they pleased. In recent months the company has teased a new miniature game based on Harry Potter (Potter’s parent company Warner Bros. also owns DC Comics), as well as released new miniatures based on DC Comics characters. No new Marvel miniatures have been released in recent months leading to speculation.

Today on their Facebook page they wrote:

This is going to be a year full of changes and new projects at Knight Models.

Our company was founded in 2008 and began working with Marvel Entertainment Inc. licensed products by designing and manufacturing high quality miniatures of its most famous heroes and villains for collectors and painters. Later, we expanded that relationship and created the Universe Miniature Game and its range of gaming miniatures.

Our long entrepreneurial relationship with Marvel has been incredible, and working on such a gratifying project for so many years, developing those characters that we love so much, has made us very happy. Unfortunately, all good things must come to an end.

Knight Models will no longer make products based on the Marvel Universe licence.

It has been a difficult decision, as many hours of work, effort and excitement were invested in this licence. But we consider that our business must follow another path.

We would like to thank the teams at Disney and Marvel Entertainment Inc. for allowing us to create such wonderful products. We also want to thank you, our followers, for your support.

Our investment in our superheroes lines, however, continues with the DC Universe Miniature Game and, of course, our flagship Batman Miniature Game – these lines will continue to be developed, and we’re incredibly excited for the future of these lines, as well as forthcoming projects. The Batman Miniature Game has become a cornerstone in miniature skirmish gaming. The successful launch of the Suicide Squad game box has allowed us to invest even further in the game’s future, and grow our wonderful gaming community.

This year we celebrate the Batman Miniature Game’s 5th Anniversary, and we’re doing so in style, with some very special anniversary products and brand new expansions, starting with the Arkham Knight campaign book, with more great new content to follow.

Of course, it cannot have escaped the community’s attention that Knight Models will soon be launching another big licenced product. We are thrilled to have the opportunity to work with Warner Bros. over the following years, and enter the fantastic, magical universe of Harry Potter. The Harry Potter Miniature Game will be a culmination of the team’s hard work and dedication to creating a true quality gaming experience, and we look forward to launching some of the most spectacular miniatures to accompany it. We hope that you’ll enjoy this new project as much as we have working on it!

ALL Marvel characters have been removed from the Knight Models website, not giving individuals time to stock up on items that have yet to purchase. The abruptness of the product removal has led many to speculate the Marvel license was not renewed. This also means the stock that exists out in the wild is limited so expect prices to rise quickly.

The reaction from the community has been mixed, partially due to the company’s decision, partially due to how they handled the announcement, and partially due to their censoring posts on their Facebook page.

We’ll continue to follow the story as it develops and bring you further news as Knight Models announces new releases.

Knight Models Releases Riddler, Emperor Penguin, Green Lantern, Sinestro, and more!

Knight Models has revealed its February releases for their Batman Miniature Game and DC Universe Miniature Game.

The Batman Miniature Game sees a lot of villains added with five releases including a whole new game. As we’ve already covered, The Riddler gets a crew sporting more of a classic look for the character and his thugs. Joining the Riddler and his crew is Quelle, a rather obscure character that appeared in just two issues. Electrocutioner gets a figure as well. The character has seen a few itterations and this design looks to be based off of Batman: Arkham Origins. In the comics he debuted in Detective Comics #644 in 1992. Emperor Penguin makes his debut in the game. The character debuted in Detective Comics Vol. 2 #13 in 2012. Finally for the game, Harley Quinn gets a new set of thugs to add to her gang.

The DC Universe Miniature game gets two releases adding some more cosmic with one superhero and one villain. The Justice League get a new member, as well as the Green Lantern Corp, with the debut of Green Lantern. This version is clearly Hal Jordan, and I’d expect more Lanterns to be released in the future. What’s a hero without his main villain? Sinestro also debuts in the game. Not only can he be a part of the villains, but it also looks like we’ll be seeing a Sinestro Corp down the line as well.

Knight Models Reveals The Riddler Gang and Quelle for the Batman Miniature Game

After a teaser earlier this year, Knight Models has revealed a brand new release for their Batman Miniature Game. The Riddler gets a new sculpt and gang (and with that new rules and statistics). Unlike previous releases, this version is more like the classic design of the DC Comics’ character.

Along with the Riddler and his gang is Quelle a rather obscure character. Quelle has appeared in just two issues debuting in Harley Quinn #6 back in May 2001.

Quelle, real name Josette, was an old family friend of the Waynes who agrees to aid the Riddler when her family loses money due to poor investments. Quelle’s role was to distract Bruce Wayne at a charity fundraiser but due to a lot of interference, the Riddler gang bolts abandoning Quelle.

Check out the images of the figures and statistics below.

Knight Models Teases the Riddler Gang and Catwoman for Batman Miniature Game

Knight Models is starting 2017 off right with more reveals of models we’ll be getting down the road, this time for the Batman Miniature Game. In kicking off their Instagram account the game publisher has a few photos but two stand out.

Standing along with the recently released “Dynamic Duo” of Batman and Robin is what looks like a new Catwoman figure, this one featuring her in her iconic purple leotard costume which I believe debuted in 1993 with Catwoman #1.

We also get a look at the Riddler gang featuring a new Riddler sculpt (I think), and gang members that are a bit of a throwback to the Batman ’66 gang as well as female member of the team. Previously a gang featuring the Riddler and a “bot army” (don’t ask). In the background we also see a Batmobile defaced, which actually looks pretty cool.

It’s unknown when these figures will be released other than 2017.

The DC Universe Miniature Game is a recent release and “reskin” of the Marvel Universe Miniature Game which they’ve dubbed the “Super Hero Universe.” It’s first released featured Batman v Superman versions of DC’s trinity of Superman, Batman, and Wonder Woman. Knight Models’ Releases Include Justice League, Rick Flag, Mr. Freeze & More

Knight Models has opened up its latest releases for pre-order including the first releases for their brand new DC Universe Miniature Game. This month sees the release of the Justice League including Superman, Wonder Woman, and Batman in armor all based on Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice.

Also being released this month for the Batman Miniature Game are Rick Flag, Mr. Freeze Crew, Captain Cold, Heatwave, Bird and Mercenaries, Suicide Squad Dice, Effect Markers Set II, Ice Template, and Mr. Freeze Markers.

Knight Models Teases New Mr. Freeze for the Batman Miniature Game

Knight Models has begun to tease their next releases for their Batman Miniature Game. Thought the teaser isn’t specific it looks like a new Mr. Freeze figure will be added to the game based on the Arkham video games. It’s most likely we’ll get Freeze and a crew to form a new gang for release. A lot of the major characters in Batman have gangs tailored to them with Mr. Freeze being one of the few who currently don’t.

There is currently only one other version of Mr. Freeze for the game, an original concept that I can’t think of having ever appeared in the comics and generally a disliked figure in the range.
