Athena Voltaire gets back to her roots with Athena Voltaire Pulp Tales

1930s adventuress Athena Voltaire is admittedly inspired by Doc Savage, the Shadow, and other giants of the pulp era, and now she’s starring in her own collection of pulp-style stories. This November, Action Lab Entertainment unleashes Athena Voltaire Pulp Tales—a collection of two-fisted stories that send the aviatrix across the globe and back again!

Contributors to this volume include Tom King, Corinna Bechko & Gabriel Hardman, Genevieve Pearson, Dirk Manning, and over a dozen more. They take Athena Voltaire around the globe, battling supernatural creatures, power-hungry occultists, and, of course, Nazis. Along the way she rubs elbows with the most famous figures of the 1930s and becomes part of some of the most pivotal moments in history.

In addition to penning one of the stories, Steve Bryant illustrates the entire volume, providing seventeen stunning black and white images, as well as collaborating on the cover with digital painter Jason Millet.

Athena Voltaire launched as part of the Modern Tales family of webcomics in 2002 and was nominated for a Best Digital Comic Eisner Award in 2005. The feature was included in St. Martin’s The Year’s Best Graphic Novels, Comics and Manga (2004 edition), and it has subsequently garnered Manning and Harvey Award nominations as well.

Athena Voltaire Pulp Tales is a 320-page illustrated prose collection, joining the 96-page trade paperback Athena Voltaire and the Volcano Goddess and the 224-page hardcover Athena Voltaire Compendium in the Action Lab library. This will be followed by the ongoing Athena Voltaire comic series, which kicks off in early 2018 with Athena Voltaire and the Sorcerer Pope. With its period setting, rapid-fire action, and strong female lead, the series is sure to appeal to fans of Indiana Jones, the Rocketeer, and Wonder Woman.

Athena Voltaire Pulp Tales will be available on November 29.

Copublishers Sequential Pulp Comics and Dark Horse Comics are pleased to announce their plans for writer/artist Steve Bryant’s 1930s heroine.

“Steve and I share a common love for all things pulp and for telling great stories. His character, Athena Voltaire, could not be a better fit for our line of graphic novels,” said Sequential Pulp president Michael Hudson. “These stories will have a beginning, a middle, and a true end to them, giving the reader a complete and fulfilling experience. The art and the writing are masterful. I can’t wait to see how Steve and his team develop this wonderful property as we move ahead.”

“I can’t think of a better home for Athena Voltaire than the Sequential Pulp imprint. Their commitment to adapting genre classics and creating new pulp icons is second to none,” said Bryant. “To be published through Dark Horse is the cherry on top. Hellboy, B.P.R.D., Buffy, Battlepug—they put out some of the best comics on the stands today. I’m flattered and humbled to see my book added to such a prestigious line!”

In addition to covering representational rights, the exclusive print and digital publishing agreement calls for an omnibus edition containing remastered versions of the previously published Athena Voltaire material followed by new adventures, including two graphic novels and an illustrated prose anthology.
