Afterlife With Archie is getting a new life as an hourlong drama series airing on Disney+. The series is based on the unfinished series by Roberto Aguirre-Sacasa and Francesco Francavilla. It will debut Halloween 2027 and comes nine months after the series received a script-to-series commitment.
In Afterlife With Archie, a spell backfires unleashing the undead upon Riverdale forcing Archie and his friends to fight to stay alive along with the Riverdale drama.
The series debuted in 2013 and ran for ten issues. The series was never completed with the final issue having been released in August 2016. The series was expected to run for twelve issues but Aguirre-Sacasa has said in October 2025 that that issues #11 and #12 have been written and issue #13 was being plotted. No issues have been released since then with no announcements made by Archie as far as the future of the series.
Riverdale better watch out, because all manner of chaos is about to kick off when a teenage John Connor enrolls at the local high school, as Dynamite Entertainment, Archie Comics, and Studiocanal present Archie vs. The Terminator starting this fall as a new 5-issue comic book miniseries!
The crossover no one saw coming is here! Archie and the gang have crossed paths with so many icons over their 85 years of history, while The Terminator has set its sights on all manner of victims. This fun-filled mashup is coming in hot for fans starting this October with the historic first meeting of pop culture powerhouses. Who will survive to tell the tale?
Writer Rory McConville continues his critically acclaimed tales of The Terminator here in unexpected fashion, following his series The Terminator: Metal. The star scribe of Spawn and Red Sonja brings the eye for action and science fiction twists to this fabled meeting.
Tackling the pulse-pounding pages inside the book is a heartwarming duo of Steven and Lily Butler. Longtime comics fans will know Butler for his beloved tenure on Spider-Man titles in the 1990s. His bibliography with Archie is deep, especially contributing to their Sonic the Hedgehog titles for years. In 1999 that same series publicly announced the birth of his daughter Lily. Now years later, the father and daughter duo are frequent artistic collaborators and in this series are set to balance the iconic house style of Riverdale with the threatening metal visage of The Terminator!
Complementing the thrilling showdown inside the series, each issue of Archie vs. The Terminator features covers by a range of familiar favorites to both Dynamite and Archie readers including Francesco Francavilla, Robert Hack, Björn Barends, and Bill Galvan. Fans can also get a mystery blind bag on the premiere issue, packed with limited editions selected randomly from a range of stunning variants.
This series follows the fan-favorite Archie X Army of Darkness crossover, which marked the first in a new era of continuing crossovers and collaborations between Dynamite Entertainment and Archie Comics. Even more details are to be announced soon!

Shaquille O’Neal is setting sail into the comic book world! The basketball Hall of Famer and business mogul has partnered with Archie Comics to develop Vengeance Unchained: The Legend of Black Caesar, a new original comic book series coming this fall centered on the rise of one of history’s most mythological pirates, by Eisner-nominated writer Stephanie Williams with artwork by Ray-Anthony Height and Studio Sky-Tiger. Colin Smeeton, Mike Parris, and Matthew Gross from O’Neal’s Jersey Legends Productions/Authentic Studios are overseeing the project for the studio.
Described as a grounded, character-driven pirate epic, the project charts the transformation of an African king from royalty to slavery to a feared outlaw of the Caribbean, blending historical inspiration with cinematic storytelling. The project is positioned as a sprawling, franchise-ready narrative, combining the political complexity of Black Sails, the sweeping scope of Vikings, and the character-driven storytelling of Shōgun. The release described the tone as leans “Gladiator on the high seas,” with a focus on power, survival, and vengeance.
Growing up, I always loved stories about warriors who refused to quit. Black Caesar starts as a king, loses everything, and takes his freedom back on his own terms. That’s the kind of story I want to help tell. We built something that’s going to entertain you and make you think. I’m ready for the world to see what we created with Archie Comics, an iconic brand I have been a big fan of for many years. Archie has such an incredible legacy of storytelling, and being able to collaborate with a brand that has meant so much to generations of fans made this project even more exciting for me
-Shaquille O’Neal
For O’Neal, the project represents a move deeper into original IP creation, with a story that emphasizes legacy, identity, and the cost of freedom.
Vengeance Unchained: The Legend of Black Caesar is slated for release this year, with additional details to be announced at a later date.
