Abigail is a nine-year-old girl with a huge imagination who moves to a small town where she’s the new kid at school, struggling to make friends. All that changes when she meets a Yeti named Claude who has escaped a top-secret government facility. Abigail and Claude become the best of friends, but to make sure he can truly be free from the “Shadow Men” chasing him, they must go on an adventure to find Claude’s real home!

From his acclaimed run on The Muppet Show Comic Book to his beloved Thor: The Mighty Avenger, Roger Langridge has earned a reputation for telling classic all-ages stories filled with heart and humor. With the first issue of Abigail and the Snowman, Langridge continues his streak creating an adorable new series that can’t help cause your heart to grow a few sizes during the cold winter months.

For those who read BOOM!’s excellent Imagine Agents, this first issue has a tinge of that story, including secret agents on the move to capture a creature that only kids can see. That story is fine enough, but it’s Abigail and her quirkiness that’s the draw.

The series rests on the precocious and imaginative little girl which the series revolves around. Abigail’s imagination and actions are something we can all relate to, as kids and adults. Her playing with imaginary friends, trouble making friends, and a parent who’s a bit too busy with their issues, it’s all something we can relate to in some way. And those relatable aspects elevate this magical tale.

A story that’s clearly geared towards kids, I found wrapping up the issue being amazed at Langridge’s usual fantastic storytelling ability. The worst part, we only have three more issues to look forward to.

Wednesdays are new comic book day! Each week hundreds of comics are released, and that can be pretty daunting to go over and choose what to buy. That’s where we come in! Below are ten suggestions of comics, graphic novels, or trade paperbacks you should spend some extra time checking out and think about picking up.

It’s the end of the year, which means there’s not much coming out this week, you can get everything for about $75. So, instead of our usual 10 picks, just get everything…. but if you still need some help…..

The Massive Vol. 4: Sahara – Brian Wood’s series wrapped up, but you can catch some of the final issues here in this volume where all of the pieces of the puzzle come together.

Del Rey. We couldn’t wait to take another Hit!

WHY YOU’LL LOVE IT: The next entry in the Harvey Award-nominated series, Hit: 1957, takes us later in the seminal decade of change for the LAPD—familiar faces, new threats, and more sharp, smart noir. Even if you missed out on the first series, if you’re a fan of crime comics like Parker, Criminal, and Tumor, Hit is in your wheelhouse.

This heartwarming story follows young Abigail, the new girl at school with a habit of talking to imaginary friends. When her newest friend turns out to be a real yeti named Claude who escaped from a top-secret government facility, it’s up to Abigail to keep him safe from the “Shadow Men” chasing him.
