Dungeon Crawler Carl Vol. 1 brings the popular book series to comics with an entertaining debut

The Apocalypse WILL be televised!

You know what’s worse than breaking up with your girlfriend? Getting stuck on a sadistic alien game show with her cat. Join Carl and Princess Donut as they try to survive the end of the world — or just get to the next level of a trap-filled fantasy dungeon.

With vibrant art done by Laurel Pursuit to bring action-packed battles to life, join as Carl fights his way through the dungeon in heart-speckled underwear.

And of course, the grizzly scenes are only balanced with the incredibly fluffy, wide-eyed stare of its main character, Princess Donut.

A ton of heart and effort was poured in creating a series with a script and style that would both appeal to WEBTOON readers and also lovers of DCC, all while consulting author Matt Dinniman the entire way about character designs, story, – EVERYTHING!

The Gotham Central: DC Compact Comics edition collects one of the best comics of the 2000s

Before the Bat-Signal lights the sky, Gotham’s detectives are already on the case. Gotham Central delivers a gripping police procedural set in the shadow of the Dark Knight, where the officers of the GCPD face down supervillains, corruption, and the chaos of a city on the edge. It’s Law & Order meets Batman—with no capes to save the day.

Gotham Central: DC Compact Comics Edition collects the first ten issues of the Eisner and Harvey Award-winning series by Ed Brubaker, Greg Rucka, and Michael Lark. This grounded, character-driven volume follows the detectives of Gotham City’s Major Crimes Unit as they investigate the murder of one of their own by Mister Freeze, navigate internal politics, and confront the psychological toll of working in a city haunted by both criminals and vigilantes. With appearances by Batman, Two-Face, and more, this is a street-level look at Gotham like you’ve never seen before.

Collects the first 10 issues.

Ultimate Impact: Reborn #1 continues the threads that began with Ultimate Spider-Man: Incursion

Ultimate Impact: Reborn #1

THE ULTIMATE UNIVERSE’S LEGACY LIVES ON! MILES MORALES returned from the Ultimate Universe with a plan: safeguard the ORIGIN BOXES – catalysts for the creation of new super heroes – before they fall into the wrong hands! But the secret is out as Miles’ battle over the boxes engulfs the entire Marvel U! Ultimate Impact: Reborn #1 focuses on the legacy of the latest Ultimate Universe.

Marvel has stated that the current Ultimate Universe is coming to an end. We don’t know exactly what that means or what its fate will be, but something is coming as Ultimate Endgame plays out. Some of what’s next played out in Ultimate Spider-Man: Incursion which had Miles Morales head to the Ultimate Universe to then return with Origin Boxes from the Ultimate Universe that give individuals powers. We’ve seen that these boxes will be key to whatever comes next for the Marvel 616 Universe as they’ve been at the center of the recent Wolverine: Weapons of Armageddon and now Ultimate Impact: Reborn.

Written by Chris Condon, Ultimate Impact: Reborn #1 picks up after the events of Ultimate Spider-Man: Incursion with Miles still in possession of the boxes and attempting to get them to others who will know what to do with them. Of course that doesn’t happen as others are determined to take them. How do they know about them or why do they care about them? That’s not really explained well but instead we get sequences of Miles gaining and losing the boxes as the issue peppers in the introduction of new heroes and villains who will obviously gain abilities from them as well as a threat they’ll need to go up against.

Ultimate Impact: Reborn #1 is mildly better than Ultimate Spider-Man: Incursion but the first issue feels a bit like annuals we’ve seen in the 80s and 90s that introduced new heroes and villains (is this a once a decade thing that needs to be checked off?). The issue isn’t bad but it also doesn’t quite excite, instead delivering a roll with it vibe where it’s best to not think things through.

The art by Stefano Caselli is good. With color by Marte Gracia and David Curiel and lettering by Joe Sabino, you can see what the team is going for visually. It’s clear they attempt to have fun with the villain Spot, giving more of a vibe that we’ve see in the recent Spider-Verse films. The action is entertaining and the characters look good, but the issue lacks a certain sense of tension and build up to its introduction of its new characters. The scenes introducing them are good, but there isn’t an emotional connection either in the narrative or the visuals and their transformations lack a certain punch of magic.

Ultimate Impact: Reborn #1 already feels like a piece of a puzzle much like Ultimate Spider-Man: Incursion, a tale that doesn’t really stand on its own but instead needs to be read as part of a multi-part story. It’s an improvement on the end of the Ultimate Universe (of which Condon wrote the excellent Ultimate Wolverine) but also feels like a pivot dictated as opposed to being organic. We’ll see where it all goes but really, this is one for those interested in the Marvel 616 meta story going on.

Stardust’s Eisner Nomination Removed from Ballot while Comic-Con takes a look at its Submission Policy

Eisner Awards Nominee

Last week, we broke the news that a nominee for the 2026 Eisners featuring some AI work. Stardust the Super Wizard Anthology was nominated this year under “Best Anthology.” Managed by Van Jensen, the anthology featured an impressive amount of talent and raised over $39,000 from 614 supporters on the Zoop crowdfunding platform.

One of those who contributed was Michael Todasco using his “AI persona,” Alex Irons for an included page. Irons has an author page on Amazon showing numerous releases over the years and the bio admits it being an AI “author.” Todasco boasted on LinkedIn about the page inclusion in the anthology. You can see Todasco’s post as well as the page from the anthology on our original article. Below is the author bio from Amazon.

Alex Irons is not a real person. Books under his name are written by AI tools like ChatGPT, Bard, and other large language models. The real-life person guiding those queries is a writer, entrepreneur, and technology enthusiast currently pursuing an MFA in writing at Johns Hopkins University.

All proceeds from Alex’s books go to the Second Harvest Food Bank of Silicon Valley.

Numerous contributors have come out publicly stating that they had no idea about the use of AI until after it was decided and the inclusion was not disclosed on the crowdfunding page.

As you can imagine, the nomination ignited a firestorm with petitions launched to not just rescind the nomination but also ask Comic-Con and the Eisners to create a policy regarding AI and its use in works submitted for nomination in future awards.

Comic-Con has released a statement that Stardust‘s nomination has been rescinded by its editor and that the convention will look at drafting a policy that will impact future awards.

In light of the recent disclosure that Artificial Intelligence was included in a work submitted for Eisner Award consideration, the judges have indicated that had they been aware of this information, they would not have voted for its inclusion. The editor of the anthology in question has also rescinded this submission for inclusion. Therefore, the submission has been removed from the list of nominees and will not appear on the ballot.

It is clear that the ever evolving landscape of technology, as it relates to art, will  benefit from further review and discussion. For this reason, San Diego Comic Convention will undertake that effort and will produce a policy that better reflects its long standing efforts in the protection of artists and creators alike.

Embracer Group is Spinning off Fellowship Entertainment which includes Dark Horse

Embracer Group

Embracer Group is a company that will be studied for a while. After going on a buying spree and gobbling up video game studios, Asmodee (the tabletop game publisher), Dark Horse, and more, the company in April 2024 announced it was going to split into three different entities, Asmodee Group, Coffee Stain & Friends, and Middle-earth Enterprises & Friends. During that announcement, it was stated that each entity would be a separate, publicly listed company.

In an announcement released today, Embracer has announced its intention to separate the group into two publicly listed companies, through the spin-off of Fellowship Entertainment with a listing on Nasdaq Stockholm planned for calendar year 2027.

Fellowship Entertainment will be the home of: 4A Games, Crystal Dynamics, Dambuster Studios, Dark Horse Media, Eidos-Montréal, Fishlabs, Flying Wild Hog Studios, Gunfire Games, Middle-earth Enterprises, Redoctane Games and Warhorse Studios.

Fellowship Entertainment aims to create a new publishing group, operationally consolidating the talents from PLAION and other parts of the group. IPs include Darksiders, Dead Island, Kingdom Come Deliverance, Metro, Remnant, The Hobbit, The Lord of the Rings, Tomb Raider, and many more.

It’s focus will be to create “recurring revenue streams across games, film, consumer products, and additional areas.

Embracer will focus on mergers and acquisitions and four business areas; PC/Console Games, Mobile Games, Entertainment and Services, and “Other.”

Embracer’s CEO Phil Rogers COO Lee Guinchard will transition to Fellowship Entertainment when that spins off along with CFO Müge Bouillon.

Embracer is in the process of finding a new CEO and CFO.

This is the latest shake up for the company that has been full of them for years. The company stated in 2023 a $2 billion deal collapsed while it also suffered low earnings and just this year Dark Horse founder Mike Richardson left the company after 40 years with it.
