Pick of the Week: The Massive #11 + 9 Others

the massive #11 coverThere’s a solid list of new comics being released this week and the fact I’m still thinking about The Massive #11 makes it my pick for the week. Brian Wood‘s amazing post-environmental crash series continues it’s mysterious journey as the team attempts to find their sister ship, the Massive. This issue looks at the impact of this new world on the animal populations and particularly sharks. In a simple comic, legacy is examined in a haunting story that had me getting choked up. Haunting and beautiful at the same time, The Massive continues to be one of the best comic series to be published.

  • The Massive #11 – see above
  • Jupiter’s Legacy #1 – The new series by Mark Millar and Frank Quietly is about a group of individuals given super powers and the next generation, their kids. The latest hero deconstruction has a solid first issue and I’m sure everyone will be buzzing about it this week.
  • Princeless Vol. 2 #2 – The best all-ages comic out there continues its amazing “girl power” message. Fun for everyone.
  • Mind MGMT #10 – Matt Kindt’s trippy spy-like series is a perfect example of what happens when you see every page of the comic as a whole package. From start to finish, always an amazing comic with so much small detail, it’ll make your head spin.
  • Rachel Rising #16 – Optioned to be a television series, see what everyone will be buzzing about.
  • East of West #2 – It’s the four horsemen meets a futuristic western, need I say more?
  • Uncanny X-Men #5 – Brian Michael Bendis continues to put out one of the best “X” comics out there with this group of revolutionary mutants.
  • Mighty Skullkickers #1 – Hack and slash D&D like fun!
  • Uncanny Avengers #7 – How does Havok’s speech about mutant being a four letter word go over? Hopefully we find out.
  • Young Avengers #4One of the more interesting Marvel NOW! series takes on the next generation of heroes.
