AfterShock Launches Seismic Press, a New YA Imprint

Seismic Press

AfterShock Comics has announced the debut of Seismic Press, a new imprint focused exclusively on groundbreaking content for readers in the 12-18 age range. Seismic Press will debut its first title, Rainbow Bridge, from creators Steve Orlando and Steve Foxe and illustrator Valentina Brancati, this coming August.

Seismic’s inaugural title, Rainbow Bridge, from creators Steve Orlando and Steve Foxe, is slated for debut in late summer and will focus on the story of Andy, a boy whose canine best friend passes away just before he enters high school, leaving him alone and rudderless. The day before school starts, when Andy is at his lowest, he visits Rocket’s grave and unexpectedly summons the Rainbow Bridge, a gateway to a wondrous world where pets discover their afterlife. With roles reversed, Andy is there to support his childhood guardian during one last epic adventure as Rocket embarks on a fantasy quest to find his lost littermate while ultimately giving Andy the confidence he needs as he enters his high school years.

Additional titles under the Seismic Press imprint will begin rolling forth at the start of 2022 and will include original works by How To Train Your Dragon’s Richard Ashley Hamilton and Ted Anderson. Plans for the line also include the repackaging of AfterShock series that have already demonstrated strong YA appeal, including The Lollipop Kids, written by Adam Glass and Aidan Glass with illustrations by Diego Yapur, and Oberon, written by Ryan Parrott and drawn by Milos Slavkovi.

AfterShock Wants you to Read Dangerously in 2019

AfterShock Comics is prompting comic readers and fans to “Read Dangerously,” claiming 2019 as The Year of Reading Dangerously. Supported by a robust advertising and marketing campaign, this call to action will serve as the rallying cry behind all AfterShock brand activities and initiatives over the course of the year.

As publisher of many of the most talked about independent titles of the past few years – including Animosity, A Walk Through Hell, Dark Ark, and Babyteeth, AfterShock will push the envelope even further in 2019 with new releases and ongoing series that continue to thrill, chill and challenge – both imaginations and sensibilities.

Working with top writers, artists and some of the brightest new stars in the creative community, soon-to-debut 2019 titles Stronghold, Oberon, Dark Red, Out of the Blue, and Horde, to name only a few, will cut across all genres to take readers far beyond their comfort zones.

The theme will serve as the focal point of the brand’s 2019 marketing campaign, including new ads debuting in late January on the back covers of all titles, targeted digital advertising, podcast sponsorships, local comic shop initiatives, and prominent placement at major conventions throughout the year. Additional plans will be revealed at the ComicsPRO Annual Meeting to be held in Charlotte in late February.
