IDW Games and Hutch! Plan Global Release

Torres, the Spiel des Jahres award-winning game, is coming back to North America. IDW Games has partnered with Huch! to bring the tower-building abstract game all the way across the ocean to your tabletop.

Torres tells the compelling tale of a city in need of hope. Following a massive destruction, the King has entrusted his successors to rebuild the city, one castle at a time, to reclaim its prior majesty. That’s where you must act, as a prince in control of 6 knights, stacking castle pieces on top of one another to rebuild the city. Where you place your knights influences how many victory points you earn for the turn.

Torres presents beautifully on the table. With fully updated art and pieces, Torres comes with over 90 sculpted plastic castle pieces that stack on top of one another, 28 beautiful knight figures, 1 King figure, cards, and more. In terms of gameplay, it has the cut and crunch of a Eurogame, with the beauty and elegance of an abstract.

As thematic as it is strategic, this game will force you to make careful moves with your trusted knights, build towers to not only help you score in the short-term, but to set yourself up for your next consecutive turns. Torres provides players with the opportunity to strategize and think ahead for massive long-term pay-offs.

Reclaim the glory of this Spiel des Jahres winner. The cost to build this castle is $49.99. Releasing in August 2017.

April O’Neil joins the fray in the first exclusive expansion to TMNT: Shadows of the Past Board Game.

IDW Games Steps into the Arena with King of the Creepies

Being King is good. But being the King of the Creepies is even better. And you’ve got to be King, or else you’ll just be… creepy.

King of the Creepies is a card combat game, where players draw and battle their Creepies in an effort to win enough Victory Crystals to be crowned the King of the Creepies! With Creepy combatants like Noctornal Manimal, Sherlock Bones, Edward Tankhands, and Nighty Knight, the narcoleptic man-at-arms, designer Jon Cohn’s tongue-in-cheek sense of humor shines through as soon as you draw your first card. The game takes place in an arena, where you will draft your Creepies to fight for you. You’ll place bets, wagering Monies on who you think will win, purchase gear and items to upgrade your Creepies, and play Mischief cards to spice up the arena and pull the wool over your opponents’ eyes. Grab as many Victory Crystals as you can, by either winning fights legitimately, or secretly completing hidden objectives. The first to five Victory Crystals wins the game in this epic player-versus-player smash.

Each crazy Creepie has their own personality. Not only will they make you laugh out loud (happens to me all the time), but they’ll wreak havoc on your opponents. The Frigid Witch, for example, can give you the Cold Shoulder, which increases her attack value.

You can beer and pretzels it, or you can take the game seriously. Combining Creepies with unique Gear and Ability cards gives the combat an extremely robust and strategic depth. The brilliance of the game is that it takes a stout gladiator-styled system, and imbues enough simplicity and comedy that the game attracts a broader scope of players, while still keeping hardcore gamers happy. You can even negotiate deals and alliances while you’re in the arena, making it a highly social game perfect for a bar or board game cafe.

Everything in this game is a joke, except the game itself. With a light-hearted pop-culture parody-themed coating, and a competitive light strategy game core, King of the Creepies is out for blood at $39.99 in June 2017.

IDW Games Teams Up with Atari for New Tabletop Games

Atari, one of the world’s most recognized publishers and producers of interactive entertainment, and IDW Games, announced today that they have entered into a partnership to produce a line of tabletop games based on several classic Atari videogame titles. Centipede, Asteroids, and Missile Command are all headed to the tabletop by way of Jon Gilmour, co-designer of Dead of Winter, and his hand-picked crew of up-and-coming co-developers.

Set to capture the feel of these classic titles, the Atari line of board games are fun, intense and fast-paced. While each game in the series will play differently from the others, they will all have you nostalgic for the days of being hunched over a CRT in a dark arcade with your eyes on the prize: top of the high-score chart.

The Atari series of games will launch with Centipede in the Fall of 2017 with future titles releasing intermittently shortly after.

IDW Games Solves the “Purrrfect” Crime with Purrrlock Holmes: Furriarty’s Trail

purrrlock-holmes-furriartys-trail-1You’ve “cat” to be serious when it comes to cracking the case. And there is no detective more serious than Purrrlock Holmes. That’s what Purrrlock Holmes: Furriarty’s Trail is about: deduction, and ridiculously over-dressed cats.

Furriarty is “litter-ally” terrorizing London and it’s up to Purrrlock Holmes to stop him before he escapes. Baker Street is awash with suspects, ranging from a gloomy Toad to a sorrowful Goose. It’s up to you, the Inspector on the case, to decide whether they are actual suspects or pawns in Furriarty’s masterplan. That Furriarty sure is a “paw” excuse for a well-to-do cat.

The gameplay is simple and appeals to a wide audience: each player draws a Hidden Suspect card. Players take turns making guesses using an interesting clock mechanic about their unknown suspect’s identity. The other players (who can see every suspect but their own) will tell you if you’ve got a lead on your suspect. If not, it’s a dead-end. Figure out enough leads, deduce the suspect’s identity, and you get to snag a clue that leads to Furriarty.purrrlock-holmes-furriartys-trail-2Each clue is labeled with a variable number of victory points. Every round, Furriarty pads his way closer to escape, putting tension on the players to guess, and guess fast, to solve the case. If you can deduce enough suspects, collect enough Paw Print tokens, you may be able to overtake Furriarty before he scrams.

Rub Furriarty the wrong way, and it’s the litter box for you!

The interesting part of the game is that when you successfully guess your suspect, and go to collect a Paw Print token, other players will not know how many points are listed on that clue token. Cat-hairs raise on your neck when you look across the table, unable to ascertain just how many points each player has collected, further heightening the tension. Catch up with Furriarty, and you score a major point advantage. At the end of the game, if Furriarty is caught, the player with the most victory points listed on their Paw Print tokens wins.

“Deduction is elementary, my dear Whiskers.”

Head out the door of 21 Baker Street to your local store. At $24.99, the game is afoot (or, a-paw, if you will).

IDW Games Sails the Seas of the Sea Chicken with a new Random Encounter

seas-of-the-sea-chicken-1‘Arrrrrrrrm yourself with a whole new set of powerful encounters in this new expansion brought to you by Jamie Keddie, designer of the original Random Encounter card game. This time around, the incredible retro-pixelrific art is nautically themed with favorites like giant man-eating clams, sirens, a clan of Vikings, and a baby on a seahorse, to name a few. And what would the game be without a progressively fatter series of sea chickens? The question is… what do sea chickens eat? And how do they get so big??

Any fan accustomed to the original Random Encounter will have no problem picking this stand-alone expansion up and playing. Games are lightning-fast and play in 15 – 20 minutes. Players will each take a set of 9 Encounter cards, each featuring one of the outrageous creatures described above, and strategically create 5 piles of facedown Encounters. Each Encounter is placed facedown so swindling deck swabbies can’t peek. Place your Loot die (which indicates your victory points) behind one of these Encounters to protect it, and let the random encounters begin.

Random Encounters occur as players take turns flipping over one of their respective card-piles and declaring another opponent’s Encounter to duel against. Every card in the Encounter has a number inside a colored skull-icon which indicates its combat strength. The color of the skull indicates any special powers. Defeating an Encounter that protects an opponent’s Loot die allows you to steal a loot from them. The first to six Loot wins!

Random Encounter: Sea of the Sea Chicken brings 4 new special powers to the Encounter cards. With a black skulled card, you can double the combat strength of any Encounter that card is placed in, which can create an overwhelming advantage. Any Encounter card with a purple skull may flee to another one of your Encounters if the Encounter it is included in is attacked. Salty swashbuckler-scuttled swimwear swept sideways! Or something like that…

This is a complete stand-alone product which can be combined with the original Random Encounter: Plains of the Troll King, to create some hilarious off-the-wall land and sea mash ups.

Shell out $19.99 clams and this booty be ‘yerrrrrrs!

Godfather: A New Don Coming This Summer

The Godfather A New DonControl the streets of New York and bring power to your family in this summer’s The Godfather: A New Don. Designed by Jay Cormier and Sen-Foong Lim, The Godfather: A New Don is a game for 3-6 players that sees each player taking control of one of the major mafia families, each trying to assert their power in the streets of 1950’s New York in hopes of taking the reigns as the new kingpin of the criminal world. The game is playable in approximately 45 minutes.

The Godfather: A New Don is an area control board game with unique dice mechanics. Each round players will roll their individual pools of dice and decide what area of the city they’ll want to focus on trying to capture. Meanwhile, the current Don will be able to make players an offer they can’t refuse and steal dice from their limited supply. Staying on top proves difficult as every stolen die moves other players up the ladder toward taking over as Don, so the tension rises with each shake of the dice. With multiple ways to use each dice you roll, players will never find themselves at the mercy of the die, instead they’ll use what they roll to make their opponents beg for mercy.
